Adel is, without a doubt, an awful unit. He has access to Spears, Forks, and Small Shields at base, and Lances on promotion. However he probably isn't even reaching promotion. The requirement for his promotion is 30 Spear and 20 Small Shield. While his Small Shield requirement isn't too hard to hit, as he has an 80% growth for it, the 30 Spear requirement is nearly unreachable with his 4 base and 30% growth. To put things in perspective, Elbert has huge problems promoting with the same growth and nearly the same base, the difference is he only requires a 20 Spear rank.
Aside from promotion, Adel also has terrible hit rates, which is at least helped by his support with Leon, horrid bases, and all around odd growths. He has relatively good HP, Strength, and Defense growths, but his Speed is a bit low at 20%. This is somewhat important because he is the only unit in the game with Vantage by default, and it requires higher Attack Speed to activate. Admittedly, it is an extremely helpful skill when it activates, since it can interrupt an enemies attack, but as stated earlier, Adel will have trouble even hitting enemies, and with his low Speed growth, he won't be able to use it against some of the faster and more threatening enemies. But at least he can use Forks.
