Profile[]
Alear is a Divine Dragon and child of the Divine Dragon Monarch Lumera. 1000 years prior to the events of Engage, Alear is said to have participated in the war against the Fell Dragon Sombron. In the aftermath of the war, they sustained heavy wounds and was put into a deep slumber. Housed in the Somniel, over a thousand years, the people of Elyos would worship Alear as the Divine Dragon. Most royal families would be granted permission to visit them as they slept and they were regularly attended by at least 33 generations of stewards dedicated to protecting and serving Alear when they would eventually awaken.

Alear is actually one of Sombron's biological children, thus making them a Fell Dragon in origin. Very little is known about Alear's youth other than they were aware of their numerous siblings that participated in Sombron's quest to destroy Elyos, most of whom perished against the Divine Dragons or in some cases Sombron himself if they failed him. Eventually Alear too would join Sombron's forces, causing a jaded outlook towards life and an acceptance that they will inevitably die for their father's ambitions. Alongside a strong aversion for the Corrupted, Alear only wished to remain useful in their father's eyes to avoid the same fate as their siblings. At some point, Alear visited their youngest sibling Veyle, who was too young to join Sombron's army. As a memento of this first and only encounter with her, Alear left their Dragonstone with her. Veyle in turn held onto the stone for comfort, knowing that so long as it remained intact, her sibling was still alive.
In order to prove their worth, Alear sought to collect the Emblem Rings, eventually acquiring the Ring of the Hero-King. During an outing to the snowy mountains of Gradlon, a distortion of time caused Alear to encounter a doppelganger, though they had several color differences. Sensing the Emblem Rings they held, Alear engaged their impersonator, but was swiftly defeated. The final blow removed the memory of the battle. Awakening shortly after, Alear encountered a woman who identified herself as Lumera, the ruler of the Divine Dragons. Though initially hostile, both expressed their loneliness as a result of the war between the Divine Dragons and Fell Dragons. Lumera asked Alear if they could speak again; not used to such kindness, they accepted.
Due to this bond with Lumera, Alear would formally betray Sombron, joining forces with Lumera to defeat him. When their backs were turned, Sombron used the last of his strength to pierce Alear, inflicting a fatal wound. Horrified, Lumera began to infuse Alear with her essence, stabilizing them and granting them partial Divine Dragon powers. As a result, half of Alear's red features shifted to blue. Left in a coma, Lumera placed Alear in a special bed chamber in the Somniel and left the Ring of the Hero-King on their hand while they remained asleep for a thousand years.Alear awakens after a thousand years to the surprise of the current Stewards: Clanne, Framme and Vander. They discover that they have lost all memories of their past. The news of their awakening spurs their Stewards to take them to Lythos Castle to inform Queen Lumera of their awakening. En route to the castle they are ambushed by corpse soldiers known as the Corrupted. Though they are able to deal with a portion of the enemies, they nearly overwhelm them before a massive white dragon destroys the remaining Corrupted. The dragon assumes the form of a woman who identifies herself as Lumera, Queen of Lythos and Alear's mother. At the castle, Lumera is overjoyed by their awakening but is heartbroken to hear that they have lost their memory.
In hopes of spurring their memory, Lumera spars with Alear and teaches them about Engaging with the Emblem Rings, with Alear evoking the Ring of the Hero-King. Alear is able to defeat Lumera, and as a reward, she gifts them Libération. Afterwards, Lumera attempts to give Alear a ring, a gift she had promised to give to them shortly before they went into their thousand year slumber. Unable to recall this promise, Alear asks her to hold onto the ring until they can remember. That night, Alear is awoken by a sudden attack on Lythos castle. Elusia, one of the nations of Elyos, raids the Ring Vault in the castle, stealing most of the Emblem Rings. As luck would have it, Prince Alfred of Firene had just arrived in Lythos with his retainers to request aid, joining Alear's forces in turn. As the Elusian forces leave, a hooded figure appears, firing a massive blast of energy at Alear. Lumera intercepts the beam and is mortally wounded as the hooded figure escapes, but not before dropping a Draconic Time Crystal. Lumera reveals that due to pouring a massive amount of her Divine Dragon energy into Alear as they slept, she was already severely weakened. She pleads to Alear to recover the remaining Emblem Rings held by the four nations of Elyos and trusts that they will succeed. She entrusts the Ring of the Holy Knight as she succumbs to her wounds.
After putting Lumera to rest, Alfred asks Alear for assistance as Elusia had also invaded Firene with the intention of stealing its Emblem Ring. Alear accepts his request and immediately departs from Lythos to fulfill their mother's mission.
The Divine Dragon's Pilgrimage[]
Arriving in Florra Mill Town, Alear meets Céline, Alfred's younger sister, who had recently escaped Firene Castle with the Ring of the Caring Princess, which Firene had been safeguarding. Alear evokes the Ring and quickly defeats the Elusian forces that followed Céline. After the battle, Alear is ambushed by a Corrupted, only for a young girl to rescue them. She introduces herself as Veyle, and tells them that she is looking for someone. Alear wishes her well before continuing onward. At Firene Castle, Alear and their forces repel the invading Elusian forces and rescue Queen Ève. She directs Alear north near the Firene-Brodia border where a second ring that Firene secretly protects is held in a secret shrine. There, Alear and Alfred encounter Yunaka, who had recently stumbled upon the Ring of the Dawn Maiden which had called out to her. Unfortunately, it gets stolen by bandits, so Alear and their forces raid the camp and recover the Ring, evoking it. Veyle is encountered once more, where Alear discovers that she injured her leg. Alear bandages her wounds and she tells them that she is looking for her sibling. The two part ways once more with Alear heading for Brodia.
At the Firene-Brodia border, they are met by Prince Alcryst, who initially believes that Alear's forces are either bandits or Elusian soldiers. After firing a warning shot, Alear quickly identifies themselves, causing Alcryst to immediately prostrate himself in front of them out of shame. Tasked by King Morion to escort Alear to Brodia Castle, they first are intercepted by an Elusian force lead by Princess Hortensia of Elusia wielding a corrupted Ring of the Princess Exalt. She demands that Alear relinquish their current Rings, but they refuse. Hortensia is forced to retreat after a skirmish and Alear arrives at Brodia Castle where they are warmly greeted by the Crown Prince Diamant and King Morion himself. King Morion willingly hands over the Ring Brodia had been safeguarding, the Ring of the Young Lion, which Alear evokes. Suddenly, Brodia is castle is attacked by the Crown Princess of Elusia, Ivy, wielding a corrupted Ring of the Sage Lord. Alear gives Diamant the ring to use and their combined force is able to defeat Ivy, who drops her ring as she is forced to flee, allowing Alear to evoke the ring. King Hyacinth of Elusia personally leads his army in an all-out attack at the Brodia-Elusia border, spurring Morion to face him directly in battle. Worried for his father's safety, Diamant asks Alear to follow his father, which they accept.
Arriving at the battlefield on the border of Brodia and Elusia, Alear and their forces witness Morion's defeat to Hyacinth wielding a corrupted Ring of the Lady of the Plains. As Hyacinth retreats, taking Morion with him, Ivy once again stands in their way, though this time she does not have an Emblem Ring due to her previous failure. Alear defeats her once more, but chooses to spare her life and thus she retreats with gratitude for their mercy, but not before telling them to head to the Destinea Cathedral where King Hyacinth took King Morion. Arriving at the Cathedral, they are too late as King Hyacinth had already sacrificed King Morion and turned him into a Corrupted. Alear and their forces defeat Corrupted Morion, Princess Hortensia, and King Hyacinth.

Sombron is revived due to Morion's sovereign blood and betrays Hyacinth, devouring him as well to further empower him. The mysterious hooded assailant appears and promptly steals the Rings Alear had as well as the Draconic Time Crystal. The hooded figure is revealed to be Veyle, who gives the six rings Alear had to Sombron, who promptly corrupts them. With no options, Alear and their army is forced to escape the Cathedral with Sombron's Four Hounds and Veyle in pursuit. At the Shadowy Moor, the Four Hounds and Veyle have nearly caught up to them, but Princess Ivy joins their forces, giving back the Draconic Time Crystal as well as the Ring of the Princess Exalt and the Ring of the Lady of the Princess that she stole from Sombron. Alear promptly evokes the rings and their forces successfully flee from the Four Hounds.
Alear takes their forces to Solm in hopes of recovering the final Rings still being safeguarded by them. In the desert sands, Alear meets Fogado, a member of Solm's Sentinels. After helping to dispatch some Corrupted, Fogado offers to bring them to Solm Palace where they meet Queen Seforia, learning that Fogado is a Prince of Solm as a result. Queen Seforia willingly offers to give them the Ring of the Radiant Hero, but forgot that Crown Princess Timerra currently had it. They meet Timerra at the Oasis Village where she willingly gives the Ring to Alear so they can evoke it. After dealing with some bandits, word arrives that Elusia had invaded Solm Palace and was holding Queen Seforia hostage. At the Palace, they find the Four Hounds and a brainwashed Hortensia. Alear and their forces are able to repel the Four Hounds and free Hortensia of her mind control, rescuing Seforia in the process. Queen Seforia reveals that Solm also held onto a second ring in secret. Directing them to the Northern Fortress, Alear encounters the dancer Seadall who found the Ring of the Crux of Fate. They evoke the ring and escape the Fortress which had been overrun by Corrupted.
Word arrives that Elusia was heading to Firene once more to threaten its people in order to coerce Alear into relinquishing their remaining rings. At the Azure Coast, Hortensia's retainers Rosado and Goldmary, having deceived Sombron's forces, was able to steal the Ring of the Azure Twins, allowing Alear to evoke the Ring. By the time Alear and their forces arrive at Florra Port, most of the building had already been destroyed by the Four Hounds, Veyle, and a Corrupted Hyacinth. Alear and their forces are able to defeat them forcing them to retreat. Veyle wrests enough control of her body from her other half long enough to deceive Zephia into giving her the Ring of the Holy Knight and Sage Lord, which she promptly sends to Alear. Taking it as a sign that Veyle truly is good, they vow to follow the Four Hounds to Elusia and rescue her.

Due to their failure at Florra Port, one of the Four Hounds, Marni, leaves on a personal mission to defeat the Divine Dragon's forces and reclaim the rings they had lost. Another member, Mauvier, accompanies her so she would not fight alone. Just as Alear and their forces arrive in Givre Port, Marni and Mauvier engage them in battle. The fierce skirmish ends with the duo's defeat. Though loyal to the Four Hounds, Mauvier offers to guide Alear to Lythos Castle where the Fell Dragon's forces are laying siege upon the Divine Dragon Shard.
Arriving at Lythos Castle, they encounter Zephia, Griss and the brainwashed Veyle once more. Shockingly, Marni attacks Veyle, damaging the special device on her head that amplifies the mind-control spell Zephia has on her. In retaliation, Zephia mortally wounds Marni, leading to Mauvier defecting to Alear's forces and a battle ensues. Alear subdues Veyle and breaks the crown, freeing her. Sombron appears, and having deemed Veyle yet another failure, fires a massive blast of flames at her. Alear intercepts the attack and is mortally wounded. Seizing their Emblem Rings, Sombron evokes the ritual to unleash his full powers once more.
Alear awakens in a astral space where they meet Veyle. They rally their despondent sister and request that she use her Fell Dragon powers to revive them. Their plan succeeds and Alear is revived as a Corrupted. They are able to recover the rings, but the extent of Veyle's revival wears off and Alear begins to fade. In desperation, the Emblem Rings evoke a miracle ritual, completely reviving Alear as an Emblem themselves, turning Lumera's ring that she intended to gift Alear into the Ring of the Connector, making Alear the Fire Emblem.
Sombron raises the continent of Gradlon from the ocean and opens a massive portal in the sky to other worlds. Veyle, having the ability to sense special crystals that empower Sombron, leads them to them so they can destroy them. The first crystal, guarded by the final two of the Four Hounds, Zephia and Griss, is destroyed when they are defeated. In her death throes, Zephia reveals that the next crystal is currently at the bottom of a deep lake. In a last moment of regret and out of spite to Sombron, Zephia gives Alear a special Draconic Crystal that allows their army to travel into the far past. The army is transported roughly 1000 years prior, where Alear encounters their past self. They are able to defeat their past self, knocking them out and destroying the second crystal. Back in the present, Veyle locates the final crystal, but she refuses to tell Alear who is guarding it. Veyle enters Gradlon temple alone to spare them from having to face a Corrupted Lumera. Despite Veyle's best attempts, she is unable to kill her and Alear forces their way in. Alear bitterly engages against Lumera and eventually defeats her. Restored of her sanity, Lumera is pleased to see that Alear has finally accepted her gift and is surprised to learn that they have become the final Emblem. Knowing that Elyos will be safe under their guidance, Lumera is finally put to rest and Alear prepares to finally face Sombron.
Alear raises the Somniel into the portal. Just before entering the portal, Marth informs them that the Emblem's power is weakening and after the battle, they will likely disappear. In the portal dimension, Sombron explains that he is from another world and was going to leave forever. Alear questions why he even brought such ruin to Elyos. Sombron reveals that in his original world, his kin was killed when he was young and he was spared out of pity. He was sent to Elyos, a world inhabited by Dragons, where he lived alone. His only memento from the original world was an Emblem Ring he smuggled, the Ring of Foundations. The Emblem within it was his only companion, but when Sombron began connecting to the inhabitants of Elyos, the Emblem and its ring suddenly disappeared. Having lost his companion and suspecting the people of Elyos of stealing the ring, he laid waste to the world and desired to amass enough power to return to his original world to exact revenge. Knowing that Sombron will still return and to prevent him from further endangering other worlds, Alear vows to stop him. The unstable nature of the portal dimension weakens the connections to the Emblems, but Alear evokes their power as the Fire Emblem and a final clash ensues. Even with his true draconic form, Sombron eventually falls to Alear and their forces. In his defeat, Sombron laments his impending demise, but Alear encourages him to try and use the Emblem's invocation one last time. After saying the chant, as he stares at his two remaining children, Sombron states that he has finally reestablished his bond with his original Emblem before he finally fades from existence, but to them he is merely talking to himself.
Alear and their forces return to Elyos, and true to Marth's words, the Emblems fade away, each giving Alear one last heartfelt message. While heartbroken, Alear is warmly greeted by their stalwart allies who promise to assist them in leading Elyos into a brighter future. An undisclosed period of time later, Alear appears in the Ring Vault surrounded by the twelve Emblem Rings on their pedestals. They inform the now Emblem-less rings that they will be succeeding Lumera as the Divine Dragon monarch. They try one last time to evoke the Ring of the Hero-King, but nothing occurs. Their allies arrive and escorts them out of the chamber so they can begin Alear's coronation. As they leave, the Emblems make one final promise in spirit to Alear that should their power be needed once more, they will answer and Engage with them again.
Should Alear fall in the final battle against Sombron, a different ending occurs. Alear awakens in an unknown location where Sombron informs them that their forces perished after they died. Alear sees a much older Veyle wearing the Ring of the Connector on her finger. Behind her in a mirror, Alear sees that they have reverted back to their Fell Dragon appearance and have been turned into a Dark Emblem.
Fell Xenologue[]
In another version Elyos, the war between the Divine Dragons and Fell Dragons resulted in the deaths of both great Fell Dragon, Sombron and the last Divine Dragon, Alear. With the end of the blessings of the Divine Dragons upon on the land, the Fell Xenologue Elyos is in extreme decline and a war between the four nations erupts in a desperate struggle to secure the last remaining resources for the nations. To end the conflict, the Fell Dragon twins Nel and Nil call upon a hero from another world to end the wars, resulting in the summoning of an Alear from another timeline.

In the Fell Xenologue version of Elyos, an opposite gendered version of Alear exists in that world. Instead of being Sombron's child, the Fell Xenologue Alear is the biological child of the Divine Dragon Monarch Lumera. The war between the Divine Dragons and Fell Dragons eventually lead to Alear fighting for the Divine Dragons. During the war, they bonded with twin Fell Dragon siblings Nel and Nil, who defected from the Fell Dragon's forces. At the end of the war, Lumera died sealing away Sombron, leaving Alear to take the mantle of Divine Dragon Monarch, leading the people of Elyos through an era of peace.
Sombron would eventually be revived a great time period afterwards, culminating in Alear and Sombron killing each other. Though the Fell Dragon was vanquished, Alear's death left no vestiges of the Divine Dragon's blessings on Elyos, slowly leading the world to ruin. In desperation to protect their subjects, the four nations of Elyos began a brutal campaign against each other for the remaining resources left. To end the conflict and save Elyos, Nel and Nil performed a ritual to summon a great hero from another world. This ritual lead to an Alear from another world to be summoned to the Fell Xenologue Elyos.
Nel briefs Alear of the state of the world and request that they aid her in recovering the Emblem Bracelets held by the four nations utilizing them for their campaigns. Alear first battles Firene and Brodia, quelling their armies and taking away their Bracelets. Word reaches that Elusia and Solm launched an attack upon each other, forcing Alear and their forces to quell both of their armies at the same time. Unbeknownst to Alear, after each battle they had waged, Nel had secretly killed the royals of the nations. When she had to kill Ivy and Timerra in front of them, Nel reveals that aside from herself and Nil as well as the Four Winds, a loyal band of knights who protect the Fell Dragon twins, all of the remaining inhabitants of Elyos are Corrupted.
Nel reveals her bitterness towards Alear due to them reminding her of the original Alear she had allied with. Desiring some alone time to collect her thoughts, she leaves Alear with Nil. During this brief period, Nil subdues Alear and tells Nel that they "left on their own" to finish the mission on their own. In reality, Nil captured Alear to utilize their power to acquire the final Emblem Bracelet to finish Sombron's goal. When Nel rescues Alear, Nil takes the opportunity to capture her instead and whisks her to the Fallen Somniel. At the Somniel, Nil shows Alear the final Emblem Bracelet encased in an impenetrable barrier that the Fell Xenologue Alear had created and can only be broken by them. Using Nel as leverage, Alear is forced to break the barrier, allowing Nil to utilize the seven Emblem Bracelets to empower himself and turns into a great Fell Dragon and attacks Alear, Nel, and their forces to fulfill Sombron's ambitions.
After a grueling battle, Nil is defeated. Though he had failed his mission and expected to be executed, Nel impales herself with a sword to release Nil of his curse and encourages him to live a free life. Horrified by her suicide, Nil reveals that he was a different brother altogether named Rafal and that when the original Nil had died, he had asked Rafal to keep Nel safe in his stead. Nel reveals that she had known for a long time but still cherished Rafal as her brother. In wake of her death, Alear explains to Rafal that in their original world, they were revived by Lumera, who poured her life essence into them over a thousand years. Rafal decides to attempt the process on Nel as repentance. With the Xenologue Elyos beyond saving, Alear extends an invitation to the Four Winds, Nel, and Rafal. The Four Winds readily accept, while Rafal states that he will only accept if the ritual to revive Nel is successful and she accepts the offer herself. Alear departs the alternative Elyos and leaves the portal open as a gesture of their offer. While only a few days pass upon their return to Elyos, a thousand years pass in the alternative Elyos before the ritual succeeds, reviving Nel. Nel and Rafal depart the alternative Elyos and join Alear in their world out of gratitude and to prevent the fall of another Elyos to the ambitions of Sombron.
Personality[]
Alear's memory is hazy due to having amnesia, but retains a spirit of positivity and courteousness. When Alfred is on wake-up duty, he describes them as a deep sleeper. Polite as one can expect of a Divine Dragon, Alear warmly greets and interacts with the members of their army and the people of Elyos. Though they lost their memories of Lumera, Alear quickly bonds with her and adopts many of their mother's mannerisms. Their journey tests their convictions, and even when near death, Alear refuses to give up and even finds rather unorthodox solutions using the powers of their allies.
Despite their status as a Divine Dragon, Alear does not force people to address them with formalities and their title, preferring that they simply refer to them by name if they want to. At times they are uncomfortable being the object of worship, especially when done in their presence. Nonetheless, they are touched by the people's faith in them and fiercely protective of Elyos itself and its denizens.
Alear finds the Corrupted unsettling beyond just a subconscious reaction. Initially, they are terrified of their mere presence, but find enough strength to dispatch them when encountered. After the tragedy at Lythos Castle, Alear takes on the responsibility of their mother's mission as a Divine Dragon for Elyos.

Originally, Alear was rather jaded and stoic, emotionally broken due to the many deaths of their siblings at the hands of Sombron when they lost any perceived usefulness, or merely for being "defects". Alear hated and feared the Corrupted, knowing that any misstep or failure that caught Sombron's ire could result in being sentenced to death at the hands of the Corrupted. Their only goal was to prove useful to their father so as to remain alive by collecting the Emblem Rings for his sake.
It was only due to a chance encounter with the Divine Dragon, Lumera, that Alear was given their first sense of peace, happiness and love. It would be thanks to this encounter and bond that Alear would begin to become more expressive and even openly rebel against their father, leading to Sombron's first defeat. While not precisely shown, Alear did appear to hold some sentiments towards their various siblings, as it caused their jaded outlook on life.
Their youngest sister, Veyle, was the last known survivor of Sombron's wrath, and it was her whom Alear left their dragonstone with, showing a deep level of affection and trust towards her. This would serve as the catalyst that would lead to their reunion 1,000 years later. Despite losing memory of her, Alear and Veyle felt a instant mutual connection, and upon discovering their familial bond, the two became even closer, with Alear expressing implicit trust in her abilities and gently supporting her through her doubts over the people of Elyos' reception of her as a Fell Dragon.
During their first death, they expressed regret that they could not be a good dragon like Lumera, spurring her to go through the painstaking process of giving them her life essence, turning them into a Divine Dragon in the process. When Alear dies again during the events of Engage, they are once again filled with regret, but their unbreakable spirit convinces the other Emblems to evoke their miracle ritual that saved their life.

Supports[]
- See also: Alear/Supports
Alear, like previous Avatars, has the ability to form Supports with every single character in the game. They are the only character in the game that can form an additional fourth tier Support with a singular ally called a Ring-Rank Support. Their selected partner also receives an alternative ending during the credits with Alear. Only Alear is capable of forming paired endings with other members of the cast.

Alear's Support ranks with their allies also empowers the Ring of the Connector's skills with that unit in particular when Engaged with Alear. The Ring-Rank Support gives one particular unit of the player's choice access to Boon of Elyos, which can only be accessed by both Alear and their selected partner when they are Engaged with each other.

Alear is the Lord of the game, and thus is used in every single chapter battle in the storyline. Due to their constant deployment, they are frequently going to be one of the strongest units in the roster. Alear is fairly strong offensively due to having a high Dexterity and Speed growth to perform Follow-Up Attacks relatively easy and can dodge an attack. Their Strength is serviceable enough to grow with some reliability so they can capitalize on their barrage of attacks. They also have a great Defense growth, so they can duel melee ranged foes if needed, and a high enough HP growth that they can even take a catastrophic attack once in a while. Low Magic growth aside, which does not factor heavily into their default class and promotion, Alear's low Resistance makes them susceptible to Mages, especially since they will lack range weapon options for most of the game with their base classes without certain Emblems equipped.
During the early game, Alear is well supported by their three stewards, Vander, Clanne, and Framme, as all three have skills that exclusively activate and benefit Alear and themselves when they are adjacent to them during combat. Vander's Alabaster Duty increases their Critical Hit rate by 5, Clanne's Verdant Faith increases their Hit Rate by 10, and Framme's Crimson Cheer increases their Avoid by 10. While not particularly strong skills in the later game, their benefits can help Alear jump start their growth early with better combat outcomes.
Alear has two unique weapons, first being Libération, which they gain very early in the game. The sword emphasizes keeping them Engaged by accelerating their meter gains if they defeat the enemies in a single round of combat during the player's turn. It also has a very easy Forge cost, making it a stellar weapon from the very beginning until very late into the game for a relatively cheap cost of upkeep. In the penultimate chapter, Alear obtains Wille Glanz, a powerful sword that allows them to strike at range if needed, giving them a solid weapon for their base classes.
Alear's starting class is Dragon Child, which utilizes the Dragon Battle Style, gaining additional benefits when Engaged with Emblems, usually higher increases to the bonuses. They are only one of two playable characters, barring DLC, who has this style and the other one does not appear until very late in the game, thus making Alear's usage of this much more unique compared to the rest of the cast. They mainly wield swords as a Dragon Child, and is one of the two only units that will main this weapon type until Chapter 7 (the other being Céline, who will mostly be using tomes), unless another character is reclassed or has the Ring of the Hero-King equipped. Alear's Personal Skill, Divinely Inspiring, lets adjacent Allies deal +3 damage and take 1 less damage from enemies. As such, they can support allies and build their skills around maximizing these bonuses.
Alear works well with any Emblem Ring they are given as they are one of the few characters that has the Dragon Battle Style available, thus receiving stronger effects. The Ring of the Hero-King is the most natural fit early for Alear, due to the Strength and Speed bonuses fitting well with their natural growths and tendencies. Only the Ring of the Caring Princess and Ring of the Dawn Maiden do not naturally align with their default growths, but if promoted into such classes, they can certainly make it work. By contrast, Alear as a Divine Dragon can also take on a more supportive focused role with the Ring of the Crux of Fate or Ring of the Instructor, which also leverages unique dragon class bonuses.
If the player still wants to improve Alear's magic, the best class Martial Monk, since they give a balanced improvement to adapt to any Emblem, especially that of the Ring of the Dawn Maiden due to the bonuses that the class gives and the magic improvement, which allows them to take advantage of the Staves and Grimoires that it grants. They begin with Arts talent, so they just need to learn to use staves, allowing them to change classes early and adapt to their new combat style.

Alear also has the utility of being an Emblem Ring themselves starting from Chapter 22, thus giving them the ability to Engage two units for the cost of their own Engage Meter only. It also gives the player the means to deal meaningful damage to the Final Boss. For more information, refer to the Overall section of the Ring of the Connector.
Overall, Alear maintains the series tradition for the Lord to be an all around solid offensive force and a competent duelist. The sheer power and flexibility of the Dragon Battle style easily rockets them into contention for the strongest unit in the entire game and the player can easily mold them into a vast variety of roles to suit their needs. Their unique ability at the end of the game further emphasizes their crucial role throughout the game, and as is series tradition, their mandatory deployment in chapter battles almost forces the player to keep them capable for the long run.

Base Kit[]
Alear joins Heroes as one of the first Heroes from the world of Elyos, and she makes quite the first impression with her impressive base 46 Spd. Her Atk is also quite good, making her an excellent offensive unit right from the start. Her defenses are quite lacking by comparison, but her base kit does mitigate this for the most part. She is an extraordinary offensive unit reliant on her high Spd to make full use of the standard Sword Infantry units that are among the most powerful in the game.
Alear's base kit grants her a bevy of useful effects. Libération in particular does a lot for her, accelerating her special cooldown and granting the Charge status while her HP is higher than 25%. This status is also granted to any of her support partners, so try to consider this when choosing a support partner for her. Far Save tanks like Ascended Fjorm or Winter Black Knight would be great choices for this role in particular, but any Far Save tank could be used in their place if planning on sticking to her base kit. Libération also has three in-combat effects; the first grants Alear +5 to all stats in combat if her HP is above 25%, the second inflicts a penalty on the foe's Spd and Def based on how many units from unique games (Engage does count for this) are near her (maxing out at -12), and the third gives Alear 40% damage reduction based on her Spd if she's faster than her opponent. All told, Libération is an extremely potent weapon that does many favors for the Divine Dragon. Her Special is Luna, which can be useful for further cutting through the defenses of her target if the penalty granted by Libération isn't enough, and the weapon makes Luna a 2 cooldown special, so Alear doesn't struggle to make use of it.
Attack Speed Ideal at fourth tier is a solid fit for Alear, given that Libération's Charge status means the skill will always be on without any support so long as her HP remains above 25%. Close Call 4 is a new skill Alear brings to the table that grants her another layer of Spd based damage reduction, this one clocking in at 50%. Close Call 4 also grants her a Phantom Speed effect and inflicts -4 to her foe's Spd and Def. Speed Smoke 4 in her C slot reduces the Spd of enemies within 2 spaces of the foe she battles by 7 and giving herself a third layer of damage reduction, this one being 40%.
Counters[]
Alear's extreme level of damage reduction can mostly be circumvented by skills that ignore such things like Lethality or Deadeye, which can create powerful counters in the form of Legendary Female Shez and Ullr. Her natural high Spd also makes it difficult to naturally perform Follow-Up Attacks against her, but she also lacks Null Follow-Up in her own kit, so any unit that can stifle this also severely hampers her performance. Rearmed Alfred, who was released alongside her, has both the bulk, color advantage, and access to Null Follow-Up to achieve this. Fomortiis can also do so upon her initiation on him. Statwise, her Res is on the lower end of the units near her release window. Despite her plethora of damage reductions, Legendary Female Byleth blows right through them.
Skill Inheritance[]
Alear's base kit is already quite strong, but there are plenty of other directions she can be taken in thanks to the wide array of Speed focused skills available for infantry units. For one, Luna can be replaced with Vital Astra to great effect and pairing it up with Time's Pulse 4 means Alear will always have access to it. Combine this with Atk/Spd Finish 4 and Alear becomes a lot more dangerous on offense and gives her some healing on the side. Godlike Reflexes is another great fit for the special slot, as it gives her a buffer in damage reduction that foes can't pierce through, and with Distant Dart Alear can flip the script on one of her only counters.
For players who lack in high value skills like those listed above, giving her a movement skill like Reposition and the Null Follow Up Sacred Seal will be all she needs to perform well in basically any game mode.
In Aether Raids Offense, using Alear as part of a Galeforce strategy is quite useful thanks to her weapon's Charge status. Paired with a Brave Chrom (who is an excellent partner whenever statuses are involved) and Harmonic Summer Edelgard, Alear can make for a surprisingly effective member of Galeforce strategies.

Alear is of Gaelic origins and means 'son of the pale youth' or 'son of Odhar's servant'. It also means 'alloy' in Spanish.
Lueur, their default Japanese name, means 'glow' in French.
Trivia[]
- Alear shares several similarities to characters of previous titles:
- Like Tiki, they are a Divine Dragon who have slumbered for a long period of time and share a bond with Marth.
- Like Robin, they are linked to a Fell Dragon and are amnesiacs.
- Like Corrin, they are a dragon whose mother is royalty while their father is the main antagonist.
- Like Byleth and Shez, they are the main Avatar and main character of their game whose appearance cannot be changed.
- Like Flayn, they were put in a deep sleep so they could heal from a serious wound.
- Alear's hair and eyes swap colors depending on their chosen gender.
- Male Alear shares his English voice actor, Brandon McInnis, with Xane as he appears in Heroes. Female Alear shares her English voice actor, Laura Stahl, with Tanya as she appears in Heroes.
- In Chapter 24, Past Alear briefly mentions their biological mother to Lumera, but gives no further details on who she was or what happened to her.
- Alear is the oldest protagonist in a Fire Emblem game, being over 1000 years old.
- Alear's red and blue coloration matches the two hair colors most prominent among Fire Emblem lead characters. It also matches the traditional UI coloration of player units (blue) and enemy units (red). Fittingly, Alear is both a playable character and an enemy boss in Engage.
- Female Alear's Legendary alt in Heroes is the first unit in Heroes to utilize a weapon that directly references the Arts weapon type.
