“Angrboða... Maiden of life and death... Mother of the triad cataclysm... Slay the living! Slay the dead! Bring death to that which cannot die!”
Veronica reciting the Heart's Rite.

Angrboða is a character mentioned in Fire Emblem Heroes. Said to be a being of great power, she is the one who gave birth to Hel.

Profile[]

In the distant past, Angrboða gave birth to Hel. At some point, she perished, leaving behind her heart, which became known as a forbidden source of power. Through a ritual known as the Heart's Rite, it could bring death to even beings like Hel. However, this had a terrible cost: for every second the heart beat, it would claim a life. Eventually, the heart was sealed in the Temple of Blood in Embla.

In an alternate Askr, a desperate Alfonse joined with Veronica and Embla to perform the Heart's Rite. However, they failed to defeat Hel, and the heart claimed the lives of every living thing in Askr. Hel then killed Sharena. In despair, Alfonse and Veronica accepted a deal with Hel: for every life they killed in another world, one would be restored in theirs. Taking the names of the first King of Askr and Empress of Embla, Líf and Thrasir began their quest to restore their world.

Angrboða's heart was later used in the Heart's Rite to help defeat Hel.

Etymology[]

Angrboða is an old norse word meaning "the one who brings grief" or "she-who-offers-sorrow." It is also the name of a female jötunn who is the mate of Loki and the mother of Fenrir, Jörmungandr, and Hel.
