Baels (バール) are monsters exclusive to Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. A Bael is a breed of giant, mutant-like spiders plaguing the continent of Magvel after the Demon King, Fomortiis, is awakened. They are slow and powerful, have the ability to cross mountain squares, and can attack with Sharp, Poisonous, or Lethal talons/claws. The promoted breed of the Bael is an Elder Bael. It is weak against any Light Magic wielded by a Bishop due to the bishop class ability, Slayer. It is also weak against any sacred twin weapon except the Grado dark tome Gleipnir.
They are first seen in Chapter 6: Victims of War, where the boss of the chapter, Novala, holds Renais citizens hostage to force Eirika to give up her Bracelet. He mentions that there are 'giant spiders' that lurk in the area. This turns out to be a Bael that attempts to kill the hostages if the player does not intervene.
Like most monster classes, Baels will usually have very low hit. However, they have much more might than most other monsters, such as Bonewalkers and Revenants, so they will do more damage if they do hit.

Etymology
They are named after an old depiction of a Christian demon, Baal, who was an ancient Canaanite god that the Jews had turned away from their God to worship multiple times before Christ had come.
