Baron Mateus is a character from Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. He is a noble of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus.

Baron Mateus is the nephew of Viscount Mateus, and became the new head of the house after it was downgraded from a viscounty to a barony for its role in the Tragedy of Duscur.

When the Adrestian Empire invades his homeland as it targets Rodrigue, Baron Mateus appears to defend the southwestern strongholds by firing upon Imperial soldiers from afar. If the Imperial army captures the surrounding strongholds, the baron surrenders and attempts to gain favor with the Empire by sabotaging a Kingdom bridge to slow the advance of Byleth, the notorious "Ashen Demon".
Personality[]
Baron Mateus lacks the warrior's pride of his uncle Viscount Mateus, believing it easier to capitulate to the Adrestian Empire than to die fighting against them on the battlefield. Rodrigue compares him unfavorably to Count Rowe, who possesses a similar sense of self-preservation, while Hubert and Monica also note his lack of pride and question how useful he would be to the Empire in the long run.
