Fire Emblem Wiki

A round of battle in Fire Emblem is made up of one or more Attack Sets, which are performed consecutively.

In the following, the character which started the battle is referred to as the Initiator and the character being attacked is referred to as the Victim. An Attack Check refers to the system checking whether the character set to perform an Attack Set has such things as is in the correct range to attack the opponent, has a weapon equipped, hasn't had their attack cancelled by skills such as Guard, and so forth.

For games without skills, the Skill Check segments can be disregarded.

  • Round Start
  • Initiating Skill Check: Any skills which take effect at the start of a battle, such as Vantage, are checked.
  • Initiator Attack: Initiator takes an Attack Check. If it passes, the Initiator performs an Attack Set against the Victim.
  • Victim Attack: Victim takes an Attack Check. If it passes, the Victim performs an Attack Set against the Initiator.
  • Repeated Attack: The possibility of either the Initiator or the Victim making a Repeated Attack is checked for. If one of them qualifies, they take an Attack Check. If it passes, the character performs an Attack Set against its opponent.
  • Concluding Skill Check: Any skills which take effect at the end of a battle, such as Counter, are checked.
  • Round End

Attack Sets[]

An Attack Set is made up of numerous segments. The person performing the Attack Set is known as the Attacker and the person taking the Attack Set is known as the Defender.

For games without skills, the Skill Check segments can be disregarded.

  • Set Start
  • Opening Skill Check: Any skills the Attacker or Defender have which affect a directly upcoming attack are checked for. Examples of relevant skills an Attacker might have include Astra and Sure Strike. An example of a relevant skill a Defender might have is Great Shield.
  • Attacker Attacks
  • Continued Attack: If, for whatever reason, the Attacker qualifies to make a Continued Attack, they Attack again. Reasons include: the skill Adept triggering, or the character wielding a Brave-class weapon. Continued Attacks are generally either affected by the same skills which affected the initial attack, or none at all.
  • Closing Skill Check: Any skills the Attacker or Defender have which take affect directly after an attack are checked for. An example of a relevant skill a Defender might have is Counter.
  • Set End
