In Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, the Battle Save feature allows the player to save in the middle of a chapter. Battle Saves were very useful in case the player wanted to take a break. Also, if the player lost a unit, he could simply reset from his last Battle Save rather than the beginning of the chapter. Additionally, some players would Battle Save right before a level up, and reload the Battle Save until the desired level up was obtained. This made it much easier for characters to cap their stats, or just generally get decent level ups. The Battle Save feature is disabled on Hard Mode. It was also unavailable in the Japanese version of Radiant Dawn.

The Battle Save feature is a unique option available in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, and to a certain extent, Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu. In Radiant Dawn, it allows the player to save in the middle of a chapter and resume from where they saved after reloading the file, while in Seisen no Keifu the player can continue from the beginning of a new turn. Battle Saves are very useful in case the player lost a unit, since they can be used to reload from the last Battle Save until the outcome becomes positive rather than restart from the beginning of the chapter.

Unlike the suspend option that was available in previous games in the Fire Emblem series, Battles Saves are differentiated from them since while both options allow the player to save and resume the game during the middle of a battle, the suspend option is only a temporary save and it is completely erased if the player restarts the chapter, whereas the Battle Save is a permanent save.

Some players would Battle Save right before a level up occurred, and then reload the Battle Save until they procured the desired stats in the level up. This can happen because the Battle Save does not reuse the same random numbers but generates new ones with each reloaded save.

These manipulations made it much easier for characters to cap their stats, or just generally get decent level ups. The Battle Save feature is disabled on Hard Mode and replaced by the suspend option. It is also unavailable in the Japanese version of Radiant Dawn.
