—Belf's death quote in Akaneia Saga
Belf was a Sable Knight who assisted Camus in delivering Nyna to Hardin before the War of Darkness.
It seems he was spared by Doluna despite his betrayal and somehow managed to avoid dying to the Akaneian League, as he joins in Fire Emblem: Shin Monshō no Nazo ~Hikari to Kage no Eiyū~, along with Leiden and Robert before the original game's Chapter 13.

Overall
Compared to Leiden, Belf has the upper hand in HP and Defense, but has lower stats elsewhere. He is still recommended for use as a cavalier unless Cecil, Ruke, and/or Rody have surpassed his experience. He has no chance in improving his Resistance, unlike Leiden, but he will almost always max out his Skill, much like Leiden.
He also has a higher chance to cap his hp than some of the other potential paladins.
Etymology
The katakana used to write Belf's name is identical to the one would write to spell 'Berg' or 'Bergh', a Dutch or Flemish surname which means 'hill' or 'mountain'. Bergh, like Leiden, is also the name of a city in the Netherlands.
