Boucheron is a character from Fire Emblem Engage. He is one of Alfred retainers.

Boucheron is a knight of Firene and a childhood friend of Alfred. Hailing from a village known for its clear waters, Boucheron is the second son of a Firenese count. His family's relationship with the Firene royal family led to him becoming Alfred's friend, and being designated as his retainer from a young age.

When Elusia threatened to invade Firene in order to steal the Emblem Ring they were safeguarding, Boucheron accompanied Alfred alongside Etie to request aid from the Divine Dragon Lumera. Upon arrival in Lythos, they find Lythos Castle already under siege by Elusia and quickly rush to their aid. In the castle, they discover that the other Divine Dragon, Alear, was already awake and fighting off the Elusian forces. Boucheron, Alfred, and Etie immediately ally with Alear to drive the invaders away. In the aftermath of the battle, Alfred requests Lythos' aid to protect Firene, which they accept. Boucheron joins in on Alfred's decision to help Alear recover the Emblem Rings and stop the Fell Dragon Sombron.

Boucheron is soft-hearted and polite. He is an avid reader and can sometimes be found crying when reading a particularly moving story. He is easily overcome by emotion even when hearing stories from his allies. Coming from a quaint village, he also enjoys fishing, sometimes spending his whole day fishing. He is keenly aware of his poor sense of direction but is rather carefree about it.

Boucheron naturally bulks up easily, much to the envy of Alfred and Etie. When followed by both in their separate supports with him, Boucheron does not actively weight train like them, yet still retains his physique despite doing nothing but mundane activities.

Prince Alfred's retainer. A tender-hearted man whose powerful build comes naturally.

Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor's personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.

Boucheron is the first Backup unit the player has access to, and the only assured one until Chapter 7 when Lapis joins, unless Anna is recruited as well. Despite his visually imposing stature, his Strength growth is actually very low for a physical unit, at only 20. In exchange, he has the highest HP and Build growths in the game and tied highest Dexterity growth, with solid growth in Speed as well. This helps him to offset his low Strength by being able to wield powerful, heavy weapons that other characters would be slowed down by, and with reasonable accuracy to boot, though this does require constant investment in his equipment for him to keep up.

His starting class, Axe Fighter, naturally complements his skillset by providing him with much-needed Strength growth, as well as augmenting his HP growth to the point where he is one of the few characters who begins with over 100% growth in a stat. Warrior is a great promotion that gives him access to Bows for a more supportive role, letting him participate in Chain Attacks from a distance, and Merciless to improve his damage. Berserker doubles down on his Axe proficiency, letting him wield some of the most powerful weapons in the game to keep his damage output high, though its low Dexterity cap can leave him with accuracy issues later on. Wyvern Knight can also be a good option with the use of a Second Seal, turning him into a surprisingly speedy flying physical tank unit and also gaining access to Lances or Swords.

Boucheron's Personal Skill is Moved to Tears, granting himself +2 damage when an ally joins a chain attack after he initiates. This skill seems quite paradoxical on a unit that is a Backup unit himself, and indeed the skill is quite difficult to trigger in the early game when there is a lack of other backup units to take advantage of it. The skill scales incredibly well however once the Ring of the Princess Exalt is acquired, as the availability of Dual Assist and its upgraded versions massively increases the frequency of chain attacks in general. This can further help Boucheron to deal damage late in the game, even against physically robust opponents.

For Emblem Rings, Boucheron strongly benefits from the Ring of the Lady of the Plains as its Engage Skill, Call Doubles, will summon units that participate in chain attacks regardless of where the user is, guaranteeing Boucheron additional damage thanks to his personal skill. The Rings of the Hero-King and Young Lion both provide additional strength, and the former having a bonus with backup units for Lodestar Rush.

Overall, Boucheron has a strong niche as the early-game Chain Attack source. As an attacker he is somewhat of an unusual unit as a weak, fast, high might-weapon user, but he requires time to get there, including overcoming some early problems with accuracy and likely requiring a class change to be able to eventually fix this. Nevertheless, among the early Firene joiners, he is likely one of the better targets for investment to take into the late game. The earliest Energy Drop is available from Jean's Paralouge, and this is right around the time either Anna or Lapis can be recruited.

As far as DLC is concerned, Boucheron makes good use of the Bracelet of the Shepherd Exalt. Whilst Engaged, Chrom and Robin serve to activate his personal skill for a guaranteed +2 damage when he initiates combat, through Robin's Other Half, without needing a unit dedicated to chain-attacking for Boucheron to be deployed. A consequence of this is that the chain attack is 100% accurate, should Boucheron himself remain in the Backup Battle Style. Furthermore, this supports him as a counter to flying units, as Other Half also boosts the Hurricane Axe's damage.
