Breath (ブレス Buresu) is a special type of weapon in the Fire Emblem series that is used by transformed dragon units. It exists outside of the weapon triangle, although some Breaths deal effective damage against certain classes.

Overview

Breaths function almost identically to the Dragonstone weapons, except that most of the time no stat bonuses are given since the user is already transformed when using the weapon.

In Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, unlike FE1, Manaketes used dragon stones as items to transform into different dragon classes which all had 1-2 Range unbreakable breath weapons that also negated any non-Manakete's Defense stat, making breath type weapons deadly in this game. All breath weapons have a 20 Weight, making dragons unable to Double Attack as a tradeoff.

In Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, the only breath weapon is used by Idunn and is 1 range like the Dragonstone weapons within the game.

In Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, the Fire Dragon boss uses the Flametongue which gives significant stat boosts to its user and boasts a range of 1-3.

In Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, Dracozombies and a zombified Manakete use Wretched air which has a range of 1-2 and gives significant stat boosts, larger then the Dragonstone used by the player's Manakete.

In Fire Emblem Awakening, the only class that can use Breaths is the enemy-only Grima class, and the only Breath in the game is the Grima-exclusive Expiration, which has a range of 1~5.

In Fire Emblem Fates, Lilith uses her special Astral Breath, which has a 1~5 attack range, in her special class, Astral Dragon. Additionally, Corrin and their child Kana can use a Breath weapon, Draconic Rage, as the Feral Dragon class, but each of them happens only once on certain chapters.

In Fire Emblem Heroes, Breath deals magic damage and is exclusive to the Manakete characters Tiki (both Archaena and Awakening versions), Fae, Ninian, Myrrh, Nowi, Female Corrin, both versions of Grima possessed Robin, and Garon. While all weapons in game are a fixed color, there are a breath user for Red, Blue, Green and Colorless, thus factoring into Heroes' modified Weapon Triangle. Unlike other weapons, Breath attacks can be freely skill inherited by other breath users, even those of different colors.
