Joined by the Archbishop Rhea, Summer Byleth flies into battle as a Red Tome Flier Duo Hero. Even without her duo skill, she is an incredibly powerful offensive unit thanks to 36 neutral Atk and 42 neutral Spd, ensuring that she hits hard and can double attack most foes. With a focus on her offense, her mixed bulk is rather low as she has 16 Def and 21 Res, meaning that she needs to defeat her opponent quickly before they have the chance to exploit her defenses. Luckily this optimized offensive stat spread is perfectly tailored together by her weapon.
+
Sun's Percussors not only accelerates her special cooldown, if her Spd is greater than her opponent's at the start of combat or if she is attacking a unit at 100% HP, she gains Atk/Spd+5 and also a Null Follow-Up effect, preventing her opponent from using skills like Quick Riposte or preventing her from performing a double from skills like Wary Fighter. As a result, very little can be done to stop her offense aside from outright winning over her with Spd, which only a very small handful of units can do.
+
Her Duo skill grants a Desperation effect, allowing units including herself to perform their follow-up attack before their opponent can counterattack. This works well on fast units like Summer Byleth and most importantly, unlike most Desperation users, this effect does not require the unit with the buff to be under a certain HP threshold to activate. Also, after three turns, she can use the effect once more, giving the player time to pace out the effect to make use of it as much as possible.
+
Ruptured Sky is a 1 Turn cooldown special under her unique weapon and not only boosts her damage by 20% of her foe's Atk, but if its against a Dragon or Beast unit, it become as 40% boost. Attack Speed Push grants an Atk/Spd +7 boost during combat if she is at least over 25% HP, though she does suffer recoil after a fight in which she uses the boost. Chill Speed Resistance reduces the Spd/Res of the foe with the highest sum of the two stats by 5 for each stat. While this may lead to inconsistent activations, it can come in handy in a pinch to ensure that she kills her foe with the debuffs active. Ground Orders allows any infantry, armored, or cavalry unit to move to any adjacent tile of an ally within two spaces of themselves, giving these grounded units deceptive mobility if they are positioned correctly to their allies.

Counters
Counters
 +
Summer Byleth is an absolute terror during their turn, but a lot of their power is lost during the enemy phase. Their bad defenses leave them vulnerable to a host of units on both sides of the damage spectrum, but more so physical units who hit her lower Def and Dragons who target it as well. Even without taking into account their inherent effective damage, bow users can easily fell her in a single volley.

Skill Inheritance
Skill Inheritance
 +
Maximizing her player turn offense is the ideal route to ensure that she can dominate from the skies. Reposition is a standard ally positioning skill that can help move an ally out of danger, though there are very few instances where it is safe for her to take an enemy turn attack. Life and Death gives her a flat +5 Atk/Spd boost in exchange fr a Def/Res -5 drop, which barely affects the outcomes of most of the fights she would find herself in. If she can get the fourth tier of Life and Death, it is the same results as her default Atk/Spd Push without the recoil and again, only at the cost of a drop of 5 Def/Res. Her high Spd also makes for a great Windsweep as she has the Spd to use it to avoid battles against physical weapons, thus avoid worrying about pesky Distant Counter users and bow users as well. Glimmer is a better fit for her, especially if she is going to be used on a team, such as a flier team, who can help boost her stats, therefore empowering the special's damage output.

Byleth is a variation of Beleth, a king of Hell. According to Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, Ham, Noah's son, was the first in invoking him after the flood, and wrote a book on mathematics with his help. This alludes to Byleth's nickname "The Ashen Demon" for their emotionless countenance on the battlefield.

“When I was a mercenary, I rarely got too close to anyone. That all changed when I became a professor.”
—Byleth in Fire Emblem Heroes.

Byleth is the main protagonist in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. As an Avatar, their name, gender, and birthday are customizable. Byleth serves as a professor at Garreg Mach Monastery. They possess the mysterious Crest of Flames and can wield the Sword of the Creator.

Profile

Born to Jeralt and Sitri on the 20th of the Horsebow Moon 1159, Byleth lost their mother shortly after their birth. She was buried at Garreg Mach Monastery. Some time after her death, Jeralt left the Knights of Seiros, taking his newborn child with him to travel Fódlan, becoming a mercenary in the process and starting his own mercenary company.

The reason for Jeralt's departure began with the circumstances behind Byleth's birth. Sitri was the twelfth created vessel intended to host the spirit of Sothis through her Crest of Flames. Like her predecessors though, she too was unable to fully merge with Sothis. Sitri eventually fell in love with Jeralt, who had received Seiros's crest when Rhea, Seiros's current alias, gave him her blood after he took a mortal wound in her stead. The union of the vessel and inheritor of Seiros' crest resulted in the birth of Byleth. However, both Sitri and the newborn Byleth were too feeble, the latter especially having no heartbeat. Dying herself, Sitri pleaded to Rhea to transfer her Crest of Flames into her newborn. The transplant was a success and Byleth was revived, but at the cost of Sitri's life. Jeralt, shocked by his wife's death, had a doctor examine his newborn to discover that they had a pulse, but no heartbeat.

Jeralt's existing suspicions of Rhea grew after this event, especially with Byleth's unusual behavior, neither crying nor laughing as a baby. By Wyvern Moon 1159, Jeralt sought a way to leave Garreg Monastery and the Church of Seiros by any means. Starting a blaze, he used the event to claim that his child had perished in the blaze on the 7th day of the month. Supposedly heartbroken by the deaths of his wife and child, he left the Monastery and secretly took Byleth with him. He formed his own band of mercenaries mainly to mask his movement throughout Fódlan so spies of the Church of Seiros could not easily track him or his child.

"End of spoilers. It's a pleasure doing business with you!"

During Byleth's childhood, Jeralt shared little information about the world, the Church of Seiros and especially his past. Byleth either forgot or never learned their true birthdate, Jeralt claiming they were born years after the fire to a woman who supposedly died of illness. Jeralt trained Byleth in combat, eventually joining his band of mercenaries and gaining a fearsome reputation for their unflinching courage in battle. They would soon be known as the "Ashen Demon" as a result.

Academy Phase

In recent times, Byleth has been having dreams of a young green-haired girl; however, when they inquire with Jeralt, he does not know anyone by the same description. Jeralt reminds Byleth that their next job will bring them to the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, but a sudden uproar occurs when three students from the Officers Academy, Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude approach the two, asking for their assistance with bandits who are trying to kill and plunder the trio. The three lords, with the aid of Byleth and Jeralt manage to dispatch most of the bandits when their leader Kostas attempts to kill Edelgard, spurring Byleth to take a blow for her. Just as Byleth is about to die, time freezes and Byleth encounters the green-haired girl once more who chastises them for being reckless. Introducing herself as Sothis, a name she just recalled. She and Byleth realize that they can rewind time to prevent Byleth's impending demise. The flow of time reverses, and Byleth is able to push Edelgard out of the way and disarm Kostas, quelling the remaining bandits.

Reinforcements arrive from the Knights of Seiros shortly afterwards and one of its members, Alois, recognizes Jeralt. He invites the two to visit Garreg Mach Monastery, and they comply. Before departing, Byleth converses with the trio from earlier, each impressed by their skill. They extend invitations to join the service of their respective kingdoms and Byleth expresses interest in one of them. Given the journey ahead, the trio get to know Byleth in order to sway them over to their side.

The Archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Rhea thanks Byleth for saving the students. Impressed by their skill, she hires them to become a professor of the students as a vacancy had just opened up. Despite Jeralt's wariness, Byleth accepts the position after Jeralt himself is asked to rejoin the Knights of Seiros. One of Byleth's fellow professors Hanneman asks Byleth to use his special device to determine if they hold a crest. To both their astonishment, not only does Byleth have a crest, but also it is a crest never seen before.

After taking time to talk to the three house leaders and learning more about the students in each of their houses, Byleth chooses one of them to serve as professor. This choice does not change much of the Academy Phase's storyline as the events of this phase are shared.

As part of their duties, Officer Academy students are given tasks each month by the Church. The first month, the Great Tree Moon has no formal mission for the students, just an annual house mock battle competition between the three houses. Through Byleth's leadership, their class emerges victorious. The Harpstring Moon marks the first formal mission that Byleth's class receives. Tasked with dispatching bandits at Zanado, the battle serves as the first real taste of combat to the students. This battle would mark the beginning of a long string of events behind a greater conspiracy.

The Garland Moon has Byleth's class tasked with quelling a rebellion staged by members of the Western Church who have begun rebellion against the Church of Seiros. Byleth's class faces off against one of the rebellion's leaders, Lord Lonato in a misty forest. The battle ends with Lonato's death.

During the Blue Moon, defectors of the Western Church invade the Holy Mausoleum in order to steal the holy corpse of Seiros. Though the Death Knight, a mysterious yet powerful knight, is among their forces, he does not fight alongside them and retreats when most of them are defeated, leaving the leader to desperately open Seiros's tomb, only to find a sword inside. Byleth disarms him and claims the sword. The sword responds to Byleth, allowing them to kill the leader. In the aftermath, Rhea is astounded that the sword, known as the Sword of the Creator, has reacted to Byleth as the last person to use it was Nemesis, who held the Crest of Flames. Despite not knowing how Byleth inherited his crest, said to have been lost to history since he had no descendants, she entrusts it to Byleth as they are the sole person able to draw out its power.

The Verdant Rain Moon has Byleth visiting their mother's grave with Jeralt for the first time since coming to the Monastery. He shows Byleth a ring he had given to their mother and promises to give it to them one day so they in turn can give it to someone they love. Byleth's class is tasked with recovering a Heroes Relic, a weapon said to have been forged by the Goddess herself like the Sword of the Creator. The relic was stolen from House Gautier by its eldest son Miklan who was disowned for not having a crest. Byleth's class is able to suppress the bandits with help from Knight of Seiros member Gilbert, leaving only Miklan left. Miklan attempts to draw out the power of the Lance of Ruin, but lacking a Crest, the lance rejects him, transforming him into a Demonic Beast. It takes the entire class to take down the beast, leaving behind the lance and corpse of Miklan. The lance is safely returned to House Gautier, though Byleth and the house leader are left to ponder the true nature of the Crests and Hero's Relics.

One free day, Byleth and Sothis spend some time trying to uncover more about her origins in their Paralogue, traveling to Zanado, a place of importance to Sothis, though she does not know why. While lost in thought, they are attacked by Demonic Beasts, though they are saved by their students who had trailed them.

During the Horsebow Moon, Flayn is kidnapped, supposedly by a reaper who appears only at night. At the end of the month, Byleth discovers a hidden passage in Jeritza's room as well as a wounded and unconscious Manuela. While the house leader takes Manuela to the infirmary, the rest of the class dispatches the Death Knight's forces and is able to rescue Flayn after the mysterious Flame Emperor forces him to retreat. Byleth also discovers a Black Eagles student named Monica who had gone missing the previous year.

The Wyvern Moon gives the students a break from their monthly missions for another house mock battle competition, this time with slightly higher stakes and prizes to the winner. Despite the improvements of the others house, they are all ultimately no match for Byleth's. During the month, after a heart-to-heart session, Jeralt tells Byleth to search his office for something important in the event that he dies on a mission.

Near the end of the Guardian Moon, several Academy students go missing when exploring a nearby abandoned chapel. Byleth, their class, and Jeralt investigates the ruins only to find several students attacked by monsters. They are able to defeat the monsters, but it is revealed that the beasts were actually transformed students. Among the students rescued was Monica, who thanks Jeralt. However, with his back turned, Monica takes out a dagger and plunges it into his back. Byleth desperately uses Divine Pulse in order to prevent his death, but Thales appears in the rewound time and deflects Byleth's attempt to stop Monica. Unable to stop his assassination, Byleth holds Jeralt as he dies, crying for the first time. In the aftermath, Byleth kept grieving, until the house leader comforts them and implores them to keep moving forward as Jeralt would have wanted.

Honoring their father's late request, Byleth uncovers his diary, recounting his growing distrust in the Church and Rhea as well as Byleth's infancy. He also left behind his Sitri's ring, which he wanted Byleth to give to their lover when the time came for them to find their own happiness.

After learning the whereabouts of Kronya, their father's killer, Byleth confronts her in the Sealed Forest, bent on revenge, and with the assistance of the class they are instructing, they are able to corner her. However, Solon appears and sacrifices Kronya to activate a ritual, sending Byleth into a dark void. As Byleth and Sothis are left helpless, Sothis remembers that she is, in reality, the progenitor god of Fódlan herself. With no other means to escape, Sothis volunteers to merge with Byleth, granting them the full extent of her powers, but at the cost of her consciousness disappearing from them. Their resulting fusion causes a surge of power to erupt around them, turning their hair light green and unlocking the true power of the Sword of the Creator. The sword is able to cleave a portal back into Fódlan and Byleth uses it to kill Solon.

Upon returning to the monastery, Rhea leads Byleth to the Holy Tomb to sit on the throne to awaken their true power. Suddenly, the Holy Tomb is besieged by the Flame Emperor and some hired bandits determined to steal the Crest Stones stored there. Byleth's class is able to stop most of the bandits and recovers as many Crest Stones as they can. Left with the Flame Emperor, during a great clash, the mask of the Emperor is knocked off, revealing that Edelgard has been the Flame Emperor the entire time.

The events of the story of Three Houses differ greatly from this point. If the Blue Lions were chosen, the Azure Moon plot starts from here. If the Golden Deer were chosen, the Verdant Winds plot starts from here.

If the Black Eagles were chosen, two separate paths occur from this point. If Byleth decided to attend Edelgard's coronation as Emperor of the Adrestian Empire, they are given the option to either continue to fight for the Church of Seiros and Rhea or defect and fight for Edelgard's cause, leading to the Silver Snow or Crimson Flower chapters respectively.

At some point after acquiring the Sword of the Creator, but before merging with Sothis, Byleth and the three house leaders discover a hidden passage while tailing a mysterious figure in the dead of night. Inquisitive, Byleth and the three house leaders as well as Ashe, Linhardt, and Hilda investigates and winds up below the Academy in a hidden area known as Abyss. It is here that they encounter four ruffian students who call themselves the Ashen Wolves, the unofficial fourth house of the academy.

It is later revealed that Sitri's grave is actually empty as Rhea could not bear to bury her after her death. She instead froze her in time and placed her in the abyss.

War Phase

If Byleth remains true to Rhea and the Church of Seiros, they will attempt to defend Rhea during the Adrestian Empire's surprise assault on the monastery before being knocked into a ravine by a magical blast. Five years later, they lead the rebuilding of the Church Forces at Garreg Mach Monastery into a resistance army capable of standing against the Adrestian Empire and saving Rhea.

Byleth leads the resistance army to Enbarr and defeat the empire with the deaths of Hubert and Edelgard. Edelgard, in her final moments, states that for the war to end, Byleth must kill her, and Byleth personally executes her. They then learn, in a posthumous letter from Hubert, of the location where Rhea has been held in confinement for five years, as well as the existence of Those Who Slither in the Dark, who reside in Shambhala. Hubert's letter states that the land will not know peace as long as Those Who Slither remain a threat, and thus Byleth leads their army to Shambhala. Rhea, still ailing from her years of confinement, insists on seeing the enemy for herself and travels with them.

At Shambhala, Byleth defeats Thales, who in his last moments triggers a last-ditch assault of Pillars of Light. Rhea takes the form of The Immaculate One in an effort to staunch the assault and protect Byleth and the Church forces, and is gravely injured in the process. However, with the Empire and Those Who Slither in the Dark both defeated, the Church is able to begin coalescing the fragments of the former Empire, Kingdom, and Alliance into a singular nation that the Church asks Byleth to lead, as it is feared that the stresses and injuries that Rhea has endured leaves her without much time left. When Byleth has had time to ponder their decision, they approach Rhea, who asks that they first listen to what she has to say.

Rhea apologizes to Byleth personally, and explains that it was her actions that made Byleth who they are. In her desire to see her mother Sothis again, she engaged in experiments, attempting to create a vessel for the goddess. Her twelfth attempt, a failure like those before, was a young woman with the Crest Stone of the progenitor goddess planted in her heart. The woman grew up without any signs that the goddess inhabited her, and eventually fell in love with Jeralt, who by that time had Rhea's blood transfused into him. In their union, the woman grew pregnant with Byleth, but at birth, Byleth was stillborn, and their mother was on the verge of death, as well.

Byleth's mother pleaded for Rhea to save the baby, and Rhea did as she wished. She removed the Crest Stone from the woman's heart, and implanted into Byleth's still heart. Byleth was given life and a pulse, but lacked a heartbeat or the ability to express emotion. Despite this, Rhea kept her deeds a secret from Jeralt, who came to suspect her of ulterior motives and never realized that if Rhea hadn't acted, Byleth would have remained dead at birth.

As Rhea concludes her explanation and her apology, her weakened body gives out, and she is consumed by the power of The Immaculate One. Driven into a violent, uncontrolled frenzy, she becomes a threat to the whole land, and Byleth is forced to lead their forces into battle one more time to stop her. Once they defeat her, she is returned to herself, and she sees her mother in Byleth before she passes. If Byleth has obtained an A-Rank or higher support with Rhea, then she survives the battle. Regardless of her fate, the Church of Seiros forms the United Kingdom of Fódlan and crowns Byleth as its ruler.

A month prior, the Pegasus Moon has a grand ball held for the three houses to dance with one another. That night the Blue Lions gather to reminisce their year. They soon realize that their time in the school would only last for a little while longer, they all decided that they would meet again together as a class in five years for the Millennium Festival. Dimitri, alone with Byleth, reveals that he and Edelgard are step-siblings, though they only spent a short time together. Before she left, he gifted her a dagger as a present. Nearby, he catches a glimpse of the Flame Emperor conversing with Thales. When he steps in to confront them, the two teleport away, but Dimitri discovers a dagger on the ground where the Flame Emperor was.

The revelation of the Flame Emperor's identity as Edelgard causes Dimitri to snap as his suspicions were confirmed that the two were one. Having believed to have caused the Tragedy of Duscur which resulted in the death of his father, his step-mother (Edelgard's birth mother), and countless others, Dimitri flies into a berserker's rage that not even Byleth can quell.

Her intentions revealed, Edelgard retreats and her first act as new Emperor of Adrestia is to declare war on the Church of Seiros. Byleth leads the Blue Lions as the first line of defense against the Empire, even facing off against Edelgard herself. Edelgard regrets not having Byleth on her side and the two clash, but Byleth emerges victorious. A sudden second wave of Adrestian soldiers charge the castle and its worn soldiers, forcing Rhea to unleash her true form as a dragon. Seeing her struggle against Demonic Beasts, Byleth goes against her orders and tries to help her. Thales appears on the battlefield and casts an orb of magic, causing Byleth to plummet over a cliff into the valley below the monastery. Eventually the Monastery loses the battle and the students, faculty, and knights are forced to evacuate, especially with Rhea and Byleth both going missing in the aftermath. Many would search for them, but none were able to find Byleth's body.

Byleth survived, being discovered in a river near a village where a villager informs them that five years had passed. Heading back to the Monastery, now in ruins, they find a solitary figure, a battle-worn Dimitri. The five years has changed the once chivalrous prince into a ruthless and cold warrior. Believing Byleth to be yet another specter of an important loved one he failed to protect, Dimitri heads into a local village near the monastery that had been pillaged by bandits, bent on dealing justice to them. Byleth follows him and the two fight off a horde of bandits. As the battle unfolds, Gilbert and the Blue Lion core members join the fray, fulfilling their promise to reunite. The Blue Lions are elated to have found not only Dimitri, but also Byleth who was missing for years. The sole member still missing is Dedue, who was supposedly executed after helping Dimitri escape the Kingdom after he was sentenced to death by the Kingdom's current leader, Cornelia.

With the Monastery back under their control, they use it as their base of operations as they seek assistance from the few Kingdom nobility resisting Cornelia's rule and plot to kill Edelgard to stop her conquest. Dimitri, consumed by his quest for vengeance, leads the army into aggressive battles against Imperial Forces. Their first battle is against an Imperial force tasked with scouting the Monastery after rumors of its reconstruction have begun to spread. The force's leader, Randolph is captured leading to a conversation between Dimitri and him over the sophism of their actions. While Dimitri planned on slowly torturing him, Byleth grants Randolph a mercy kill to spare him of further suffering.

Byleth follows along with Dimitri's initial goals to attack the Empire, but the prince's actions become more and more reckless. Due to both Gilbert's wisdom and Byleth's guidance, Dimitri's choices are mitigated enough that the others are not put entirely at risk. Felix's father, Rodrigue later joins, providing support to Dimitri's cause and becoming another source of guidance for him. If Dedue's paralogue has been completed, it is revealed that he is alive after rescuing Dimitri thanks to the help of the Duscur men he helped to save five years prior. With the full Blue Lions house reunited and the Great Bridge of Myrddin under their army's control, the event forces the Empire and Alliance to meet Byleth and Dimitri's army at Gronder Field in a situation that echoed the mock battle from five years prior. The clash of the three armies leads to many casualties, but the Blue Lions emerge victorious, forcing Claude to retreat and Edelgard severely wounded, but is able to escape. Dimitri vows to chase after her by himself but Byleth, Gilbert, and Rodrigue stop him from going off on his self-imposed suicide mission.

Suddenly, a young girl rushes onto the battlefield and attacks Dimitri, inflicting a heavy wound. Just as she is about to deal the killing blow, Rodrigue steps in and sacrifices himself, allowing Byleth the opportunity to kill Fleche. This moment becomes a turning point for Dimitri as Rodrigue absolves Dimitri of any guilt that he may have imposed on himself by the deceased. As a heavy rain falls, Dimitri is left to wonder about his purpose. Byleth extends their hand to him, offering to continue to guide him on his path as his teacher. With the weight lifted from his shoulders, Dimitri returns to his old self and becomes more objective in his goals. He decides to first restore the rule of Kingdom back into his hands, killing Cornelia and formally claiming his birthright. Though he is nervous to greet the masses, Byleth encourages him to face them and Dimitri finds the people of Faerghus eager to see the return of the true king.

With the Kingdom back in their hands, they receive a call for help by Claude against an impending Imperial invasion of the Alliance territory. Heeding his request, Byleth and Dimitri lead the Blue Lions in quelling the invasion. Grateful for their rescue, Claude announces that the Alliance has formally disbanded with the intention of merging with Faerghus. Dimitri accepts his offer and receives Failnaught to use in his cause as Claude departs Fódlan to take care of personal business in Almyra. With even more forces at his disposal, Dimitri begins the assault on the Adrestian Empire to stop Edelgard, though this time, he is willing to parley with Edelgard. Claiming Fort Merceus by defeating the Death Knight, Dimitri dispatches a messenger to Edelgard, asking her to parley with him in person. Edelgard heeds the request and meets him and Byleth. Edelgard declares her vision for Fódlan and refuses to ally with Dimitri. Heartbroken that the two must cross blades, Dimitri returns the dagger she dropped five years earlier and the two depart ways to prepare for their final battle.

The assault on Enbarr marks the start of the final battle as the Kingdom army overwhelms the Empire's forces, including Hubert, who is killed in the battle. Cornered in the castle, Edelgard unleashes her dual Crests, transforming her into a hideous monster, granting her incredible power. The combined forces of Byleth, Dimitri, and the Blue Lions eventually take down Edelgard, causing her transformation to dispel. Left mortally wounded, Dimitri offers her hand and another opportunity to help him build a better future for Fódlan. Edelgard instead throws the dagger at Dimitri, striking his shoulder just as he stabs her with Areadbhar, killing her. The duo depart the empire having ended Edelgard's ambitions. With the war over, Rhea, weakened by her time in imprisonment, steps down as Archbishop while Byleth assumes the title, leading the Church of Seiros. Dimitri formally becomes king of Faerghus, now comprised of the entirety of Fódlan. The former teacher and student help to lead Fódlan into a better future.

With her intentions revealed, Edelgard becomes the new Emperor of Adrestia and her first act is to declare war on the Church of Seiros. Byleth leads the Golden Deer house as the first line of defense against the Empire, even facing off against Edelgard herself.

Heading back to the Monastery, now in ruins, they find Claude, now leader of the Leicester Alliance, waiting for them. Claude informs Byleth what has happened to Garreg Mach during the five years they were gone and the two share a meal together. Waiting for the other students to turn up to the five-year reunion, the two explore the ruins of the monastery and come across a group of bandits pillaging a local village, leading to a fight. As the battle unfolds, the Golden Deer core members join the fray, fulfilling their promise to reunite, and are elated to see that their old professor is alive.

With the Monastery back under their control and the return of the Knights of Seiros, the two parties form an alliance and use it as their base of operations as Claude suggests leading an army capable of standing against the Adrestian Empire and saving Rhea. Despite Byleth's hesitance to join the Alliance's cause, Claude convinces them to stay to protect their students and to find out more about themselves by finding Rhea with their old class. Fighting under the banner of the Crest of Flames, Byleth and Claude's army successfully repels an Imperial incursions into Garreg Mach, meets with Judith at Ailell to bolster their numbers, and capture the Great Bridge of Myrddin to settle internal divisions within the Alliance and unify the nation's full might.

Upon entering the Empire and arriving at Gronder Field, the Alliance army meets the Imperial army led by Edelgard and a Kingdom army led by Dimitri, presumed dead after the coup in Fhirdiad, and emerges victorious after a gruesome three-way battle, with Edelgard wounded and forced to retreat to Enbarr and Dimitri meeting his end in pursuit of Edelgard. The Alliance army then pushes their momentum and captures Fort Merceus, the greatest obstacle on the way to the Imperial capital, but javelins of light fall and destroy the fortress, forcing the Alliance to regroup elsewhere.

Byleth leads the Alliance army to Enbarr and defeat the Empire with the deaths of Hubert and Edelgard. In her final moments, Edelgard states that for the war to end, Byleth must kill her, and Byleth personally executes her. They and Claude then learn, in a posthumous letter from Hubert, of the location where Rhea has been held in confinement for five years, as well as the existence of Those Who Slither in the Dark, who reside in Shambhala.

Rhea takes the form of The Immaculate One in an effort to staunch the assault and protect Byleth and the Alliance forces, and is gravely injured in the process. However, with the Empire and Those Who Slither in the Dark both defeated, the Leicester Alliance forms into a singular nation. With the stresses and injuries that Rhea has endured leaves her without much time left, Byleth and Claude approach her when the situation has calmed down, determined to find out the truth about everything.

Rhea apologizes to Byleth personally, and tells Byleth and Claude the truth about herself, the goddess, Agarthans, Nemesis, the Ten Elites, and the origins of Crests and the Heroes' Relics.

As Rhea concludes her explanation and her apology, a soldier arrives and informs them of an unidentified military force is attacking from the east and approaching Garreg Mach, with the leader wielding the Sword of the Creator and flying a banner bearing the Crest of Flames. Rhea quickly puts together that the leader is Nemesis himself and tells Byleth to put an end to Fódlan's blood-stained history. After a fierce battle against the resurrected Nemesis and the Ten Elites, Byleth deals the final blow and slays Nemesis, causing the ancient army to disappear like ash. Whether Rhea passed away or is simply too injured to rule is left ambiguous and the Church of Seiros forms the United Kingdom of Fódlan, crowning Byleth as its ruler.

"Just a minute! The following section contains spoilers. Viewing it will cost a lot. Are you prepared to pay for it?"

Byleth grows close to the Black Eagles house, particularly to house leader Edelgard. Should they forge a strong enough bond with her, she asks them to accompany her on a week trip to the Empire where she formally ascends the Adrestian Empire's throne as its new Emperor.

After being unmasked in the Holy Tomb, Edelgard is shocked, but elated when Byleth chooses to ally with her. Incurring Rhea's fury, they retreat to the empire, where they launch an attack on the monastery. Though they defeat the Church's soldiers, Rhea transforms into The Immaculate One and launches a fireball at Byleth, sending them into a coma and their students are unable to find them, but still hope they are still alive.

Five years later, Byleth is woken by a villager who found them drifting along a river, and they immediately head back to the monastery despite his warnings the monastery is occupied by Imperial forces. They make their way to the Goddess Tower and find Edelgard, who is shocked and elated to see they are alive and well. Edelgard brings them up to date with all the events they have missed since then, before bringing them to the rest of Black Eagle Strike Force, all of whom are happy to see their professor safe and sound. Byleth's presence allows Edelgard to end the three-way stalemate between the warring factions, and they make numerous gains over their enemies.

In the final battle, Rhea transforms into her dragon form in hopes of killing Byleth and reclaiming the Crest of Flames that they bear. A brutal battle ensues, but Byleth and Edelgard are able to kill Rhea. Suddenly, Byleth collapses and when Edelgard checks their heart, she hears no pulse. As she weeps for her teacher, the Crest of Flames dissolves from their heart and for the first time, their heart begins to beat as Sothis's power vanishes. With the Church of Seiros formally dissolved and control of Fódlan in Adrestian hands, the continent begins to see huge reforms under Edelgard's rule. Though they have lost the power of Sothis, Byleth spends the rest of their life to end Those Who Slither in the Dark and becomes a lifelong confidant to Edelgard.

Personality

Byleth has a very subdued personality and has difficulty expressing emotion. As a newborn, they neither laughed nor cried. People they are especially close to, such as Jeralt, are able to tell how they are feeling despite their limited emotional visualizations. A handful of their students note that their outward expressions hardly vary. Some express surprise whenever they simply smile. According to Alois, this trait of theirs may in part come from their father, as Jeralt does not show his emotions easily either and can also be difficult to read. This should not be taken as them not having emotions at all however. Due to Jeralt concealing a lot of information about the world, they are showing curiosity about the influence of the Church of Seiros, the mystery of the Crests, and the dynamic of the three nations once they were immersed into the Officers Academy.

Their stoic demeanor slowly changes over the course of the Academy phase. Jeralt notices that they have become more expressive over the first few months, likely a result of the bonds they have formed with their students. Despite appearing indifferent, Byleth can be perceptive of their students and fellow faculty's problems and serve as a great source of emotional support for their issues. As the story unfolds, their emotions become more dynamic including feeling true sorrow, vengeance, and happiness.

Byleth has somewhat of a reputation from their earlier years in their father's mercenary corps for being a fearless and skilled warrior, gaining the moniker of 'Ashen Demon', due to the way they seemingly emotionlessly cut down their enemies in combat. This seems to be somewhat of a sensitive subject for them, as they seem uncomfortable when Hanneman mentions their moniker in their C support. It is notable that in the beginning of the game, Sothis refuses to let the player progress if they do not acknowledge their humanity to her, refuting the "Ghost" and "Demon" options, so it can be inferred that Byleth is uncomfortable with the Ashen Demon moniker because it dehumanizes them.

The three house leaders of the Officer's Academy attest to their martial prowess and have deep, profound respect for their abilities and guidance in battle and in the classroom. They alongside the other students continue to refer to them as teacher or professor even after the time-skip. The three house leaders also deeply regret that Byleth had not chosen their house if they are not teaching theirs, seeing the value in their strengths.

According to both genders of Byleth in Heroes, they do not actually know the distinction between a friend and an ally due to their unusual childhood. Nevertheless, they are well liked by the student body, even those not in in their initial house. Their wisdom ultimately shapes the outcome of the events of Three Houses providing council and guidance to the house leader they chose to teach, helping to shape them into better warriors and leaders. Several students can develop an interest in them and eventually switch over to their house if not already in them. This results in them also joining their faction during the War, even those from enemy nations defecting to their cause, thus changing their fate. Those who do not join will often express regret facing them in battle. However, some students and faculty members, especially in the Crimson Flower route, will instead express outrage at them, vowing to kill them by their own hands.

According to their profile in Cindered Shadows, Byleth has interests in helping and listening to people, likes swords, reliable allies, smiles, and being trusted, and has no apparent dislikes.

Byleth has flat stats across the board with no particularly abysmal growths save for the low 30% growth in Resistance and slightly higher 35% growths in Magic and Defense. With every other stat having a 45% growth, Byleth is a flexible unit and a potent fighter regardless of whatever class they are put in, though they have an emphasis on physical classes due to the stronger Strength growths. Their personal skill Teacher's Guidance initially gives Byleth and any adjacent ally a 20% Exp boost during combat, giving them perfect utility in strengthening their allies. During Chapter 10, Byleth also gains a +2 damage boost to their attacks. Byleth's role as the main character does mean that while they are potent, they still need some level of caution used as when they fall, it instantly causes Divine Pulse to activate, thus using one of the charges.

Byleth is one of the best Battalion users as their Charm growth is the easiest to improve. By using Tea Times and choosing the correct topics, they can gain 1 Charm point at the end. Byleth also can easily make usage of Faculty Tutoring to improve specific subjects. With proper planning, this makes recruiting students from other houses much easier without having to use any of the subjects during battles.

Byleth's spell pool is fairly average with a mixture of damage from their Reason list consisting mainly of Fire based spells and a both offensive and utility Faith spells, which gives them the option of using magic based classes. Though their Reason list is ultimately uninteresting, their access to Aura is unusual as only Dimitri, Marianne and Yuri have access to it otherwise. It has very high Crit for a spell, tying with Death Γ and topped by Fimbulvetr, and this combined with Byleth's budding talent in Faith means it is better to prioritise Faith if one intends to use magic as a secondary ability in the Enlightened One class.

Byleth's subject strengths are in Sword, Brawl, and Authority, the three of which syncs naturally with their exclusive story promotion Enlightened One. They also have a Budding Talent in Faith, granting White Magic Avoid +20 giving them extra avoid when equipped with a Faith spell. With no Subject Weakness, Byleth can apply themselves into any class possible, depending on player preference and in some cases, Byleth's gender.

Initially, Byleth should master the Commoner class for more early game survival via HP+5. Physically oriented Byleths should then master the Soldier class and then Brigand, as the former has the best positioning combat art that will likely stay useful through out the playthrough, and the latter grants the ubiquitous Death Blow.

Magically oriented Byleths should go through the Monk class and master Mage for Fiendish Blow subsequently.

Physical Byleths can then choose to master Mercenary and Warrior for Vantage and Wrath respectively, which when combined with the male only class War Master's passives and master ability, will make him a force to be reckoned with on both player and enemy turns. War Master is also the arguably best physical master tier class in the game so it is definitely worth considering as M!Byleths final class. Another option on Maddening difficulty is Grappler for its unique combat art which hits 3 times, which makes it possible to circumvent the skyhigh speed stats enemies have on that difficulty.

Female Byleths will have access to the Vantage Wrath combo above, but lack access to War Master and thus need to contend with other classes. If a penchant for flying is desired by the player, she can fit easily into Pegasus Knight, Wyvern Rider and eventually either Wyvern Lord or Falcon Knight. Alternatively, she can combine the Aegis and Pavise skills as well as Darting Blow and Desperation to make for a speedy tank type character, where Darting Blow and potentially Weight -3 or 5 offset the malus the armor and cavalry classes impose on her speed growth.

Female Byleth will also make for the more effective mage of the two, as she can eventually promote into the Gremory class, doubling the spell use of any kind. Attaining the S and S+ ranks in both schools of magic will afford her both Tomefaires, as well as range extending skills, so the use of a Knowledge Gem is advised. Darting Blow and Weight -3 or 5 can also be used here effectively in order to offset the weight penalties of her spells.

Supports

See also: Byleth/Male Supports, Byleth/Female Supports

Byleth is able to form supports with most of the playable characters in game, including the non-playable characters Rhea and Sothis, who are only able to support with Byleth. Unlike previous games, Anna is completely unsupportable and is the only character Byleth cannot form a support with.

Byleth can also form an S-Support in-game, though this can only be initiated during a certain chapter:

Both genders of Byleth are able to S-Support with all characters of the opposite gender. Male Byleth can also form a same-sex S-Support with Linhardt, Gilbert, Alois,Jeritza, and Yuri. Female Byleth can also form a same-sex S-Support with Edelgard, Dorothea, Mercedes, Rhea, and Sothis.

Base Set

For those who owned Three Houses within the first year of its release quickly obtained a useful sword unit as a free gift. While he may face stiff competition among an already extensive existing pool of sword units, Male Byleth is a worthy contender off the gate. His stats are mainly well balanced with particularly strong offensive stats and workable physical bulk. While he may lack resistance, it hardly affects his overall performance.

What sets Male Byleth out from the rest is mainly his weapon, the Creator Sword. It packs three powerful effects starting with a special cooldown acceleration which is a fairly standard skill on many weapons already, but it works to his advantage nonetheless. Next is essentially Null Follow-Up, preventing the opponent skills that grant follow-ups like Quick Riposte or those that stop Byleth's follow up like Wary Fighter, stopping many hyper offense characters and most stalwart walls. Last is the negation of enemy special cooldown acceleration skills or skills that slows down Byleth's. The weapon alone grants huge benefits to Byleth and makes him a terrifying offensive unit.

Male Byleth's other unique skill is Ruptured Sky, boosting his Atk by 20% of his foe's Attack. This allows him to turn the enemy's high Atk against them to power up his own assaults. This bonus is further boosted to a 40% boost if he is battling a Dragon unit such as Tiki or either Grima Robin. Byleth's damage output can be inconsistent against some enemies as a result of borrowing their Atk, but against most Arena and Aether Raid enemies, he can unleash terrifying damage on top of his already solid offense.

Male Byleth packs Distant Counter, preventing most mages from engaging him safely without taking some powerful, sometimes fatal, damage in return. Chill Speed weakens the enemy with the highest Spd on the enemy team, thus can let him double them when applied properly. Odd Speed Wave gives him a +6 Spd boost, granting him a 44 neutral Spd stat on even turns, much faster than most of the unmerged meta.

Counters

Male Byleth has very few counters as mostly bulky blues can wall him like Fallen Hardin or Brave Hector, though he does negate any of their follow-up skills. With their high Atk, they still can take notable damage despite their bulk if he manages to activate Ruptured Sky, but they are among the most solid options to counter him. Mages with enough buffs can simply nuke him in a single cast before he can retaliate. In particular, Ophelia can do this with her AoE special charged as can Lilina if she also runs an AoE special. Staff users with Dazzling Staff/Wrathful Staff can also safely engage him without worry of retaliation, applying the usual chip damage expected of them. He also lacks HP and Res to overcome most Panic and Ploy users as well, making him vulnerable to debuffs.

Skill Inheritance

Male Byleth is already good to go from the start but the standard Reposition is highly recommended to give him a positioning ability should he not be in range to initiate an attack and instead set up a bait.

While he is vulnerable to staff users as mentioned above, he can inherit Null C-Disrupt to stop such enemies from getting free hits on him and shores up one of the main weakness in his base kit. Otherwise, improving his offense is a good option such as Wrath.

Female Byleth is near identical to her male counterpart as they both hold solid offensive stats and physical bulk, but are low in Res. The differences between the two are minimal at best, but she does have slightly better Spd and Res than him while Male Byleth has slightly better Atk and Def. On a technical level, the performance differences mainly come down to Female Byleth stopping follow-up attacks from some of the fastest units in the game and naturally doubling over more while Male Byleth hits slightly harder and can take a few more physical hits. While some may choose to ignore her since Male Byleth already exists in their roster without having to summon him, she is simply too powerful of an asset to not try to acquire and train.

She has the Creator Sword like her male counterpart. It packs three powerful effects starting with a special cooldown acceleration which is a fairly standard skill on many weapons already, but it works to her advantage nonetheless. The weapon alone grants huge benefits to Byleth and makes her a terrifying offensive unit.

Female Byleth's other unique skill is Ruptured Sky, boosting their Atk by 20% of their foe's Attack. This allows her to turn the enemy's high Atk against them to power up her own assaults. This bonus is further boosted to a 40% boost if she is battling a Dragon unit such as Tiki or either Grima Robin. Byleth's damage output can be inconsistent against some enemies as a result of borrowing their Atk, but against most Arena and Aether Raid enemies, she can unleash terrifying damage on top of her already solid offense.

Female Byleth's base heavily deviates from her male counterpart as she packs Fury 4, boosting her already impressive stats with a flat +4 stat boost at the cost of 8 recoil damage after every fight. This plays greatly into her Wrath skill, further accelerating her special and adding a vicious +10 damage when it activates. Even Attack Wave boosts her Atk by 6 on even turns, bringing her neutral Atk to 56 for outstanding damage output.

Counters

Female Byleth has very few counters as mostly bulky blues can wall her like Fallen Hardin or Brave Hector, though she does negate any of their follow-up skills. With their high Atk, they still can take notable damage despite their bulk if she manages to activate Ruptured Sky with her Wrath activated, but they are among the most solid options to counter her. Mages with enough buffs can simply nuke her in a single cast, especially if she does not have Distant Counter Inherited. In particular, Ophelia can do this with her AoE special charged as can Lilina if she also runs an AoE special. Staff users with Dazzling Staff/Wrathful Staff can also safely engage her without worry of retaliation, applying the usual chip damage expected of them. She also lacks HP and Res to overcome most Panic and Ploy users as well, making her vulnerable to debuffs.

Skill Inheritance

Female Byleth is already good to go from the start but the standard Reposition is highly recommended to give her a positioning ability should she not be in range to initiate an attack.

She more or less can emulate her male counterpart by inheriting Distant Counter to allow her to counterattack mages and Null C-Disrupt to stop staff users from chipping at her even with Distant Counter equipped.

Base Set

Counters

Summer Byleth is an absolute terror during their turn, but a lot of their power is lost during the enemy phase. Their bad defenses leave them vulnerable to a host of units on both sides of the damage spectrum, but more so physical units who hit her lower Def and Dragons who target it as well. Even without taking into account their inherent effective damage, bow users can easily fell her in a single volley.

Skill Inheritance

"Just a minute! The following section contains spoilers. Viewing it will cost a lot. Are you prepared to pay for it?"

Byleth - Wandering Flame (Silver Snow)

"Byleth defeated those who slither in the dark and put down the crazed Immaculate One. In the aftermath of the loss of Fódlan's great leading figures, he/she ascended the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. In his/her heart lived the indelible hope that their efforts would one day yield an era in which the people knew true peace and the horrors of war were a hazy memory of the past."

Byleth - Ruler of Dawn (Verdant Wind)

"Together, Byleth and Claude sent the Fell King, Nemesis, a foe from a bygone age, back to the flames of eternity from whence he came. Afterward, Claude left Fódlan, leaving Byleth to ascend the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. As he took his schemes and dreams and efforts to a far-off land, he hoped dearly that their joint efforts would one day allow for a world where all of humanity can co exist in peace and harmony, regardless of borders or bloodlines."
Male Byleth
Byleth and Linhardt
"After ascending to the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced his marriage to Linhardt. The people of Fódlan placed high expectations on their leader's spouse, but to their consternation, Linhardt spent most of his time fishing, relaxing, and researching Crests. Fortunes turned when Byleth discovered a document, hidden away on Linhardt's desk, which provided a ground-breaking discovery. Cast unwittingly into prominence, Linhardt was put to work in earnest. In return for his service, he demanded longer naps in the company of his spouse."
Byleth and Bernadetta
"After ascending the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced his marriage to Bernadetta. Many were concerned that the new leader of House Varley would do little more than hide, but she in fact followed the new king wherever he went and provided him with constant counsel. She never did overcome her shyness, however, and it is said that aspiring advisers who frightened her were quickly turned away. Because the ones she liked performed well in their service to the people, Bernadetta was widely believed to have a discerning eye."
Byleth and Dorothea
"After ascending to the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced his marriage to Dorothea. The former songstress resolved to stay out of the public eye, keeping to herself and her family, but as Byleth worked tirelessly to restore Fódlan, she did offer advice from time to time. It is said that her experience growing up as a commoner provided a useful perspective. Many years later, her diary was uncovered, revealing the full extent of the happy life the couple shared. The love poems that they wrote to one another were published as a collection."
Byleth and Petra
"After ascending the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced his marriage to Petra. In light of her love for her spouse and her unique position to act as a bridge between the two regions, Petra entrusted her homeland's throne to her family and remained in Fódlan. Together, the two worked hard to restore Fódlan and improve relations with Brigid. The foreign royal was initially met with skepticism, but in time, the people of Fódlan accepted and adored Petra. Thanks to their efforts, in the distant future, the two lands were eventually as one."
Byleth and Mercedes
"Byleth announced his marriage to Mercedes shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. Mercedes ensured that Fódlan paid special attention, in its rebuilding effort, to folks who had lost jobs and to children who had lost their families due to the war. The couple was said to mingle frequently among the people, working up a sweat right alongside them. They happily spent their lives ushering in a new era."
Byleth and Annette
"After ascending the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced his marriage to Annette. His wife actively contributed to his endeavors, and it is said that her wisdom was heavily relied upon during Fódlan's restoration and development. Despite her lofty position, she was known to occasionally step in as a guest speaker at the Royal School of Sorcery, where she educated many renowned sages. Though her talents were widely respected, it is said she was always a bit accident-prone. Charming tales endure of her husband saving her from countless kitchen explosions, but it is unknown whether these are fact or purely fiction."
Byleth and Ingrid
"Byleth announced his marriage to Ingrid shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. Together they made great strides toward restoring Fódlan to its former glory and beyond. Though Ingrid contributed to the court in her position as queen, she also famously guarded her king in a physical capacity. Most well-known is how the "Warrior Queen" drew her own weapon to repel an assassin's blade meant for her husband, a tale which lived on in chivalric storybooks for generations."
Byleth and Lysithea
"Byleth announced his engagement to Lysithea shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. Before they were officially wed, she returned home, helped her father to restore Ordelia territory, and offered the land up to be governed directly by the new kingdom. Once the affairs of House Ordelia were in order, Lysithea finally married and became queen. Even without her Crests, she proved more than capable in the role, applying her great insight and intelligence toward a better Fódlan. When the rebuilding effort was complete, the couple and their children enjoyed long and peaceful lives."
Byleth and Marianne
"Byleth announced an engagement to Marianne shortly after being named leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. Before they were officially wed, Marianne first returned home to prepare for the ceremony and to study oration and management under her adoptive father. She returned under the Great Tree Moon, and became queen of a restored Fódlan in a grand wedding. The kingdom experienced remarkable growth thereafter, and while Byleth became known as a leader of incredible wisdom, few people of the time understood the depth of the queen's influence."
Byleth and Hilda
"Byleth announced his marriage to Hilda shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. As queen, Hilda rarely took part in politics herself, but she nevertheless contributed greatly to the restoration of Fódlan by recommending exceptional people to influential positions. Her hobby of creating fashionable accessories also bore fruit, as her designs achieved widespread popularity, and she created the first artisan academy in Fódlan. The school produced many talented craftsmen, one of whom created a statue that expertly captured the king's delight at receiving the gift of a bracelet from the queen."
Byleth and Leonie
"Byleth announced his marriage to Leonie shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. Though she accepted the status of queen, Leonie disliked the pageantry of the position and refused to part with her weapons. She avoided court and instead founded the Jeralt Company, an elite group of soldiers hand-picked from the royal guard. They mostly busied themselves by hunting down bandits and monsters, but they also stopped the remnants of the Imperial army from organizing a revolt. It is rumored that one knight of rare skill who fought alongside Leonie in the Jeralt Company was none other than the king himself."
Byleth and Flayn
"Byleth announced his marriage to Flayn shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. Flayn did not get involved in government affairs, but instead focused on making frequent public appearances, where her calm and pleasant demeanor helped endear the new leaders to the people. When Fódlan was finally restored, the couple left the throne to their children and retired to a royal villa on the Rhodos Coast of western Fódlan. They spent their remaining years there in peace, fishing a great deal. It is said that no matter their age, they always retained a youthful appearance."
Byleth and Manuela
"Byleth announced his marriage to Manuela shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. Manuela lent her considerable talent and experience to the rebuilding effort, using personal connections she'd gained during her time as a songstress and teacher to assemble a team of talented people to govern. She became essential to the king's rule, and her skills as a physician kept him in good health for many years. The happiness of the couple and their children was plain to see on the faces that were immortalized in family portraits."
Byleth and Alois
"After the war, Byleth ascended the throne of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, and Alois retired from the Knights of Seiros to serve the former professor. Alois became the new leader's right hand, and his duties in that respect kept him busily engaged all over Fódlan, giving all he had to support his reign. Alois's cheerful character was beloved by his subordinates, who rallied behind him to create the most numerous order of knights in all Fódlan. It is said that Byleth relied on Alois as though he were his own father."
Byleth and Catherine
"Byleth announced his marriage to Catherine shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. While the king focused on the rebuilding effort, Catherine worked as his bodyguard, and when the situation called for military force, she mobilized the troops and went to battle. Under her watchful eye, Fódlan entered a new era of peace. A common saying among the people was that the king of Fódlan had two weapons: the Sword of the Creator, and his fearsome wife."
Byleth and Shamir
"Byleth announced his marriage to Shamir shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. While the king focused on the rebuilding effort, Shamir became his bodyguard and confidant. She even acted as captain of the royal guard, and became known as a watchful and trustworthy queen. As a couple, their daily lives were busy indeed, and both were famously taciturn, but it is said they cherished their quiet time together - especially once they began to have children."
Byleth and Rhea (Silver Snow only)
"After finally saving both Fódlan and Rhea from Crisis, Byleth ascended the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. From his temporary residence at Garreg Mach Monastery, he endeavored to restore and develop Fódlan. Having narrowly escaped death, Rhea took time to recover her strength before returning to her role as archbishop. Upon her return, she applied herself to rehabilitating the church and helping those who had suffered because of the war. Thereafter, the two worked closely to forge new policies and achieve progress for Fódlan. The pair’s collective work came to be thought of as nothing short of miraculous."
Byleth and Yuri
"As the new leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth worked tirelessly to reform and rebuild in the aftermath of a devastating war. Constantly at his side during that time was his husband, Yuri, who's policy proposals led , time and again, to better education and opportunities for the less fortunate. After working to ensure a bright and prosperous future for Fódlan, the couple stepped back from the public eye vanished from official record. Curiously, informal notes and letters from friend suggested that the pair was extraordinary long-lived and their youth was untouched by the passage of time."
Byleth and Constance
"After ascending to the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced his marriage to Constance, who was given peerage for her service in the war and permitted to revive House Nuvelle. Praised for her innovative talent, she rapidly rose to prominence in the new era, and her house came to be relied upon as a valued leader in magical research and development for generations to come. She was not without detractors, however. Jealous rumors persisted throughout her life that the rays of the sun compelled her to retreat into hiding, threatening to reveal her monstrous true form."
Byleth and Hapi
"After ascending to the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced his marriage to Hapi. Her disquieting lineage earned her more than her fair share of detractors, but over time, as the royal couple restored Fódlan together, the people came to appreciate her competence and taciturn wit. Some years later, when those who slither in the dark emerged to threaten Fódlan once again, it is said that Hapi's strength was instrumental in dealing with them."
Female Byleth
Byleth and Claude (Verdant Wind only)
"After ascending the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth sought to rebuild the war-torn towns and villages and to help guide the reformation of the Church of Seiros. After a few months of peace, remnants of the Imperial Army joined with those who slither in the dark and marched upon the capital city of Derdriu. The new kingdom lacked the power to repel the invaders, but when defeat seemed imminent, a battle cry rang out from the east. Claude, the newly-crowned King of Almyra, led a mighty army that broke through the rebel forces with ease. This show of solidarity forever altered the course of history, heralding a new age of unity."
Byleth and Ferdinand
"After ascending to the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced her marriage to Ferdinand, who had assumed his inherited position as Duke Aegir. Ferdinand overcame a slew of obstacles to reform his territory and that of House Hrym. He chose not to accept an official position in service to Byleth, instead advising her only informally as a spouse. History books extol Ferdinand's success as a lord of his territories, but make no mention of his marriage. Thus, half of his life's work is lost to time."
Byleth and Linhardt
"After ascending to the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced her marriage to Linhardt.
Byleth and Caspar
"After ascending to the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced her marriage to Caspar. But Caspar, never one to sit still for long, set out on a journey of self-discovery. He traveled to every corner of Fódlan and even took Byleth along on occasion. It is said that he got into mischief at every turn, and that his wife sometimes had to invoke her authority to defuse the situation, but that the victims of his antics always came away more amused than harmed or offended in the end. The stories of their travels were remembered fondly for generations."
Byleth and Dorothea
"After ascending to the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced her marriage to Dorothea.
Byleth and Felix
"Byleth married Felix almost immediately after ascending the throne of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. When it came to matters of governance, Felix often took on duties that would have required his wife to dirty her hands and thus came to be called The Royal Sword. After they accomplished all they had set out to do, the couple left the rule of Fódlan to the next generation, disappearing into obscurity with blades in hand. Thereafter, history only provides unconfirmed reports of a pair of traveling mercenaries who possessed unmatched strength and skill."
Byleth and Ashe
"When Byleth ascended the throne of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Ashe served the new leader faithfully - first as a knight aide, and later as a husband. The queen, with help from the Church of Seiros, put much toward the rebuilding effort with particular attention paid to relief for orphans in the form of food, beds, and even schooling. It is said that these compassionate deeds were all Ashe's suggestions, but the modest knight always gave the credit to his beloved wife."
Byleth and Sylvain
"After ascending the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced her marriage to Sylvain, who had become the new Margrave Gautier. Sylvain was a valued ally who assisted his wife in her new role, both publicly and privately. Most of all, it is said that his cunning manner of speech was a great asset for fostering relations between the Church of Seiros, Fódlan, and surrounding regions. Though known as a philanderer in youth, Sylvain happily settled down after marriage and became a gentle and devoted husband and father. The two had many children whom they doted on equally, regardless of whether or not they bore a Crest."
Byleth and Mercedes
"Byleth announced her marriage to Mercedes shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. Mercedes ensured that Fódlan paid special attention, in its rebuilding effort, to folks who had lost jobs and to children who had lost their families due to the war. The couple was said to mingle frequently among the people, working up a sweat right alongside them. They happily spent their lives ushering in a new era."
Byleth and Lorenz
"Byleth announced her marriage to Lorenz shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. Lorenz took equally well to his dual roles as the queen's husband and the leader of House Gloucester, working simultaneously to restore his own territory and to advance the development of Fódlan at large. Because his policies were of particular benefit to the commonfolk, he was well loved, and came to be called the Lord of Roses. After many years of peace, Lorenz grew ill and withdrew from the public eye. The queen followed, entrusting the throne to the prince. It is said that he was the spitting image of his father."
Byleth and Raphael
"Byleth announced her marriage to Raphael shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. As a knight in the new order of royal guards, Raphael helped to restore order and stability to the nation during its fragile rebuilding period. It is said that the kindness and undying support of the queen and her husband helped to put the minds of the people at ease. The couple was long remembered, even after they stepped back from the public eye, thanks to portraits painted by the court's renowned artist: Raphael's sister, Maya."
Byleth and Ignatz
"Byleth announced her marriage to Ignatz shorty after becoming the leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. Ignatz supported the restoration of Fódlan as Queen's spouse, but became better known for his skill with a paintbrush. He donated beautiful portraits and landscapes to churches all over the kingdom, and it is said that his works provided great comfort to those touched by the war. His most famous price, entitled Descent of the Goddess, depicted the eponymous deity descending form the heavens to lead the people. Those who knew the queen often remarked that her face must have been used as a reference."
Byleth and Seteth
"After ascending the throne as the first queen of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth appointed Seteth as her prime minister. As they set about the grand task of restoring Fódlan, the prime minister’s strictness combined with the queen’s magnanimity won the people over easily. Their personalities complemented one another perfectly in dealings with obstinate lords. When their long work was done, they finally announced their marriage, to the shock and delight of their subjects. The people considered themselves truly blessed to be governed by such a union."
Byleth and Hanneman
"Byleth announced her marriage to Hanneman shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. Hanneman provided counsel to the queen as she worked to restore Fódlan, but his goal remained to determine the workings of the Crests and to do away with the inequality caused by them. To that end, his research resulted in magical tools which could be used even without the aid of Crests. The queen made good use of these tools, and they soon became a cornerstone for continued progress."
Byleth and Alois
"After the war, Byleth ascended the throne of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, and Alois retired from the Knights of Seiros to serve the former professor. Alois became the new leader's right hand, and his duties in that respect kept him busily engaged all over Fódlan, giving all he had to support her reign. Alois's cheerful character was beloved by his subordinates, who rallied behind him to create the most numerous order of knights in all Fódlan. It is said that Byleth relied on Alois as though he were her own father."
Byleth and Cyril
"Byleth declared the founding of the United Kingdom of Fódlan at Garreg Mach and ascended the throne as its first leader. Cyril served as a chamberlain, supervising all general affairs. With the expansion of the kingdom, it was eventually decided that the queen would move to a new royal capital. Cyril wished to accompany her, but was ordered to enroll in the newly reopened Officers Academy. Though reluctant, he complied. A year later, after consistently demonstrating great wisdom and maturity, he won the queen's heart, and they announced their abrupt marriage. The move surprised many, but no one was as shocked as Cyril himself was pleased."
Byleth and Rhea (Silver Snow only)
"After finally saving both Fódlan and Rhea from Crisis, Byleth ascended the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. From her temporary residence at Garreg Mach Monastery, she endeavored to restore and develop Fódlan. Having narrowly escaped death, Rhea took time to recover her strength before returning to her role as archbishop. Constantly at her side during that time was her husband, Yuri, who's policy proposals led , time and again, to better education and opportunities for the less fortunate, a legacy that was later taken up by the couple's children. A trove of love letters, uncovered many years later, revealed him she called him by an entirely different name in private. Scholars never learned why."
Byleth and Balthus
"After ascending to the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced her marriage to Balthus. The people were reluctant to accept this union at first, considering his reputation, but his natural charisma in speeches and his ability to exceed expectations eventually won their blessing. Though mostly noted for his strength and dedication as a bodyguard, Balthus also provided counsel. It is said that many civil and diplomatic reforms owe their origins to his advice."

Byleth - Guardian of Order

"Byleth helped Dimitri to finally crush the ambitions of the Empire. After the war, Rhea stepped down from her role as archbishop, and Byleth swore to lead the Church of Seiros in her stead. He/She helped to guide the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus as it brought leadership to the newly unified Fódlan and worked tirelessly to create a peaceful world free from the shackles of oppression."
Male Byleth
Byleth and Linhardt
"After taking on the role of archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Byleth announced his marriage to Linhardt. The people placed high expectations on him, but to their consternation, Linhardt spent most of his time fishing, relaxing, and researching Crests. Fortunes turned when Byleth discovered a document containing a ground-breaking discovery hidden away on Linhardt's desk. Cast unwittingly into prominence, Linhardt was put to work in earnest. In return for his service to the church, he demanded longer naps with the archbishop."
Byleth and Bernadetta
"After taking on the role of archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Byleth announced his marriage to Bernadetta. Many were concerned that the new leader of House Varley would do little more than hide, but she in fact followed the archbishop wherever he went and provided him with constant counsel. She never did overcome her shyness, however, and it is said that aspiring advisers who frightened her were quickly turned away. Because the ones she liked performed well in their service to the church, Bernadetta was widely believed to have a discerning eye."
Byleth and Dorothea
"After taking on the role of archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Byleth announced his marriage to Dorothea. The former songstress resolved to stay out of the public eye, keeping to herself and her family, but as the archbishop worked tirelessly to restore Fódlan and the church, she did privately offer advice from time to time. It is said that her experience growing up as a commoner provided a useful perspective. Many years later, her diary was uncovered, revealing the full extent of the happy life the couple shared. The love poems that they wrote to one another were published as a collection."
Byleth and Petra
"After becoming the new archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Byleth announced his marriage to Petra.
"Byleth announced his marriage to Mercedes shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. Mercedes took on duties as a cleric and through that work ensured that the church offered special support to children who had lost their families due to the war. The couple was said to mingle frequently among the people, working up a sweat right alongside them. They happily spent their lives ushering in a new era."
Byleth and Annette
"After becoming the new archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Byleth announced his marriage to Annette. His wife actively contributed to his endeavors, and it is said her wisdom was heavily relied upon during Fódlan's restoration and development. Despite her lofty position, she was known to occasionally step in as a guest speaker at the Royal School of Sorcery, where she educated many renowned sages. Though her talents were widely respected, it is said she was a bit accident-prone. Charming tales endure of her husband saving her from countless kitchen explosions, but it is unknown whether there are fact or purely fiction."
Byleth and Ingrid
"Byleth announced his marriage to Ingrid shortly after succeeding Rhea as the new archbishop. Together they made great strides in helping to restore the Kingdom of Fódlan to its former glory and beyond. Though Ingrid provided counsel to the archbishop as his wife, she also earned renown as a Holy Knight of Seiros. Most famously, she parried an insurgent's blade with her own weapon just before it struck the archbishop's neck. Tales of the archbishop who ended the long war, and his valiant wife Ingrid, lived on in storybooks for generations."
Byleth and Lysithea
"Byleth announced his engagement to Lysithea shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. Before they were officially wed, she returned home, helped her father to restore Ordelia territory, and offered the land up to be governed by neighboring lords. Once her parents had retired and withdrawn, Lysithea finally became the archbishop's wife. Even without her Crests, she proved more than capable of assisting him in his role, applying her great insight and intelligence toward a renewed church. When the rebuilding effort was complete, the couple and their two children enjoyed long and peaceful lives in the lively household they built together."
Byleth and Marianne
"Byleth announced an engagement to Marianne shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. Before they were officially wed, Marianne first returned home to prepare for the ceremony and to study oration and management under her adoptive father. She returned under the Great Tree Moon, and became the archbishop's wife in a grand wedding. The Kingdom experienced remarkable growth thereafter, thanks to the church, and while the archbishop became known for his incredible wisdom, few people of the time understood the depth of his wife's influence."
Byleth and Hilda
"Byleth announced his marriage to Hilda shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. Hilda rarely involved herself with the church, but nevertheless contributed greatly to its restoration by recommending exceptional people to influential positions. Her hobby of creating fashionable accessories also bore fruit, as her designs achieved widespread popularity, and she started an artisan academy at Garreg Mach. The school produced many talented craftsmen, one of whom created a statue that expertly captured the archbishop's delight at receiving the gift of a bracelet from his wife."
Byleth and Leonie
"Byleth announced his marriage to Leonie shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. Though she accepted the status of the archbishop's wife, Leonie disliked the formality of the position and refused to part with her weapons. Avoiding involvement with the church, she founded the Jeralt Company, an elite group of soldiers hand-picked from the Knights of Seiros. They served as guards to the archbishop in peacetime, and were first to respond to reports of bandits or monsters. It is rumored that one knight of rare skill who fought alongside Leonie in the Jeralt Company was none other than the archbishop himself."
Byleth and Flayn
"Byleth announced his marriage to Flayn shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. Flayn chose not to get involved in management of the church, instead focusing on healing those who had been hurt by the war. Her compassionate demeanor led many to speculate that she was "the second coming of Saint Cethleann." When Fódlan was finally restored, the archbishop named a successor, and the couple retired to a royal villa on the Rhodos Coast of western Fódlan. They spent their remaining years there in peace, fishing a great deal. It is said that no matter their age, they always retained a youthful appearance."
Byleth and Manuela
"Byleth announced his marriage to Manuela shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. Manuela lent her considerable experience and talent to the rebuilding effort, using personal connections she'd gained during her time as a songstress and teacher to assemble a team of talented people to restore the church. She became essential to the archbishop, and her skills as a physician kept him in good health for many years. The happiness of the couple and their children was plain to see on the faces that were immortalized in family portraits."
Byleth and Gilbert
"When Byleth took on the role of archbishop in Rhea's place, he devoted himself to official business as the new leader of the Church of Seiros. Reaching an agreement with the Kingdom, he worked tirelessly on the restoration and development of all of Fódlan. Behind his achievements was the knight Gustave, formerly known as Gilbert of the Knights of Seiros, who remained always by the archbishop's side. Byleth came to rely on Gustave for nearly everything. It is said that he continued to call upon Gustave for instruction and advice well into his retirement."
Byleth and Alois
"When Byleth took on the role of archbishop in Rhea's place, he reformed the order of the church little by little. Eventually this included the Knights of Seiros, and Alois was named captain and the archbishop's right hand. The captain's duties kept him busily engaged all over Fódlan. His cheerful character inspired those under his command, unifying the Knights of Seiros in a way they had never been before. The archbishop relied on Alois as if he were his father, and Alois in turn treated him like his child. It is said that Alois was so overcome with emotion on the archbishop's wedding day that his weeping could be heard through the applause."
Byleth and Catherine
"Byleth announced his marriage to Catherine shortly after becoming archbishop of the Church of Seiros. While the archbishop focused on the rebuilding effort, Catherine worked as his bodyguard, and when the situation called for military force, she mobilized the troops and went to battle. Under her watchful eye, Fódlan entered a new era of peace. A common saying among the people was that the king of Fódlan had two weapons: the Sword of the Creator, and his fearsome wife."
Byleth and Shamir
"Byleth announced his marriage to Shamir shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. While the archbishop focused on the rebuilding effort, Shamir became his bodyguard and confidant. She even acted as a deputy captain of the Knights of Seiros, and in that capacity, became quite popular. As a couple, their daily lives were busy indeed, and both were famously taciturn, but it is said that they cherished their quiet time together—especially once they began to have children."
Byleth and Yuri
"As the new Archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Byleth worked tirelessly to reform and rebuild in the aftermath of a devastating war. Constantly at his side during that time was his husband, Yuri, who's policy proposals led, time and again, to better education and opportunities for the less fortunate. After working to ensure a bright and prosperous future for Fódlan, the couple stepped back from the public eye vanished from official record. Curiously, informal notes and letters from friends suggested that the pair was extraordinary long-lived and their youth was untouched by the passage of time."
Byleth and Constance
"After taking his place as the new archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Byleth announced his marriage to Constance, who was given peerage for her service in war and permitted to revive House Nuvelle. Praised for her innovative talent, she rapidly rose to prominence in the new era, and her house came to be relied upon as a valued leader In magical research and development for generations. Though the couple was known during their time as pioneer reformers for the church, they were remembered best for their charming, if unnerving, anecdotes of a wife’s relentless insistence on using her husband as a test subject for experiments."
Female Byleth
Byleth and Dimitri
"Paired with the end of the war, the joyous marriage of Byleth, the newly-appointed archbishop, and Dimitri, the newly-crowned king of Faerghus, gave the people of Fódlan much to celebrate. The two were devoted to improving life for the people and to seeking greater wisdom in order to reform the government and the church from the inside out. As leaders of church and state respectively, at times they engaged in heated debate. Even still, when enjoying a long horse ride or a quiet evening, they were not as the world saw them, but rather two adoring spouses, desperately in love. They remained as such for the rest of their days."
Byleth and Dedue
"A year after Byleth was appointed to succeed Rhea as the new archbishop, she announced her marriage to Dedue, who had resigned his position as the king's vassal. Their wedding ceremony, brightly colored with all of the most beautiful flowers from Duscur, set the tone for their happy life together. Dedue served as an intermediary between Faerghus and the church and -- alongside the archbishop -- committed to improve relations with foreign nations as part of the rebuilding effort. In their later years, they retired to the Duscur Peninsula where they spent the remainder of their lives gardening in peace and quiet."
Byleth and Ferdinand
"After taking her place as the new archbishop of the Church of Serios, Byleth announced her marriage to Ferdinand, who had assumed his place as Duke Aegir. The archbishop's husband overcame a slew of obstacles to reform his family's territory and Hrym but took no official position with the church, providing only guidance and support in his capacity as a loving spouse. History books extol Ferdinand's success as a lord of his territories, but they make no mention of his marriage to the archbishop. Thus, half of his life's work is lost to time."
Byleth and Linhardt
"After ascending to the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced her marriage to Linhardt.
Byleth and Caspar
"After taking on the role of archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Byleth announced her marriage to Caspar. But Caspar, never one to sit still for long, set out on a journey of self-discovery. He traveled to every corner of Fódlan and occasionally even took the archbishop along. It is said that he got into mischief at every turn, and that the archbishop sometimes had to invoke her authority to calm things down, but that the victims of his antics always came away more amused than harmed or offended in the end. The stories of their travels were remembered fondly for generations."
Byleth and Dorothea
"After taking on the role of archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Byleth announced her marriage to Dorothea.
Byleth and Felix
"Byleth married Felix, who had become Duke Fraldarius, shortly after she was named to succeed Rhea as archbishop. Felix focused his efforts on restoring his territory and the Kingdom and became the archbishop's closest confidant, both privately and officially. They often spent a lot of time apart, but whenever they reunited, they had a tradition of crossing blades before crossing words. Attendants remarked that the smiles they wore on their faces during these bouts were never seen elsewhere."
Byleth and Ashe
"When Byleth became the new archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Ashe served her faithfully-first as a knight and aide, and later as a husband. With help from Faerghus, the archbishop put much toward the rebuilding effort with particular attention paid to relief for orphans in the form of food, beds, and even schooling. It is said that these compassionate deeds were all Ashe's suggestions, but the modest knight always gave the credit to his beloved wife."
Byleth and Sylvain
"After becoming the new archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Byleth announced her marriage to Sylvain, heir to House Gautier. Sylvain was a valued ally who assisted his wife in her new role, both publicly and privately. He achieved a great deal, including fostering relations with Faerghus and helping to institute sweeping organizational changes within the church. Though known as a philanderer in youth, Sylvain happily settled down after marriage. By the time he inherited the title of Margrave Gautier, he was a gentle and devoted husband. It is said that those who knew him in his youth wondered what sort of spell the archbishop had cast on him."
Byleth and Mercedes
"Byleth announced her marriage to Mercedes shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. Mercedes took on duties as a cleric and through that work ensured that the church offered special support to children who had lost their families due to the war. The couple was said to mingle frequently among the people, working up a sweat right alongside them. They happily spent their lives ushering in a new era."
Byleth and Lorenz
"Byleth announced her marriage to Lorenz shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. Lorenz took equally well to his dual roles as the archbishop's husband and the leader of House Gloucester, working simultaneously to restore his own territory and to support the church's efforts to restore Fódlan at large. Because his policies were of particular benefit to the commonfolk, he was well loved, and the church's authority was restored as a result. After many years of peace, Lorenz and the archbishop resigned their positions, entrusting rule of House Gloucester to their son. It is said that he was the spitting image of his father."
Byleth and Raphael
"Byleth announced her marriage to Raphael shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. As the archbishop's spouse and a member of the reformed Knights of Seiros, Raphael helped to ease the suffering and damage caused by the war. It is said that the great affection between the archbishop and her husband never failed to put the minds of the people at ease. The couple was long remembered, even after they stepped back from the public eye, thanks to portraits painted by a renowned artist: Raphael's sister, Maya."
Byleth and Ignatz
"Byleth announced her marriage to Ignatz shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. Ignatz supported the restoration of Fódlan as the archbishop's spouse, but became better known for his skill with a paintbrush. He donated beautiful portraits and landscapes to churches all over the Kingdom, and it is said that his works provided great comfort to those touched by the war. His most famous piece, entitled Descent of the Goddess, depicted the eponymous deity descending from the heavens to lead the people. Those who knew the archbishop often remarked that her face must have been used as a reference."
"Byleth announced her marriage to Hanneman shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. Hanneman provided counsel to the archbishop as she worked to restore the church, but his goal remained to determine the workings of the Crests, and to do away with the inequality caused by them. To that end, his research resulted in magical tools which could be used even without the aid of Crests. The archbishop made good use of these tools, and they soon became a cornerstone for continued progress."
Byleth and Gilbert
"When Byleth took on the role of archbishop in Rhea's place, she devoted herself to official business as the new leader of the Church of Seiros. Reaching an agreement with the Kingdom, she worked tirelessly on the restoration and development of all of Fódlan. Behind her achievements was the knight Gustave, formerly known as Gilbert of the Knights of Seiros, who remained always by the archbishop's side. Byleth came to rely on Gustave for nearly everything. It is said that she continued to call upon Gustave for instruction and advice well into his retirement."
Byleth and Alois
"When Byleth took on the role of archbishop in Rhea's place, he/she reformed the order of the church little by little. Eventually this included the Knights of Seiros, and Alois was named captain and the archbishop's right hand. The captain's duties kept him busily engaged all over Fódlan. His cheerful character inspired those under his command, unifying the Knights of Seiros in a way they had never been before. The archbishop relied on Alois as if he were his/her father, and Alois in turn treated him/her like his child. It is said that Alois was so overcome with emotion on the archbishop's wedding day that his weeping could be heard through the applause."
Byleth and Cyril
"Byleth took on the role of archbishop of the Church of Seiros, and Cyril served her in all things, just as he had served Rhea. As Fódlan stabilized, and the rebuilding effort came to an end, the Officers Academy finally reopened, and the archbishop directed Cyril to enroll there as a student. A year later, after consistently demonstrating great wisdom and maturity, he won the archbishop's heart, and they announced their abrupt marriage. The move surprised many, but no one was as shocked as Cyril himself was pleased."
Byleth and Yuri
"As the new Archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Byleth worked tirelessly to reform and rebuild in the aftermath of a devastating war. Constantly at her side during that time was her husband, Yuri, whose policy proposals led, time and again, to better education and opportunities for the less fortunate—a legacy that was later taken up by the couple's children. A trove of their love letters, uncovered many years later, revealed that she called him by an entirely different name in private. Scholars have never learned why."
Byleth and Balthus
"After taking her place as the new archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Byleth announced her marriage to Balthus.

Byleth - Wings of the Hegemon

"Byleth fought alongside Edelgard to bring an end to the tyranny of a godlike being. Though he/she was wounded in the battle and lost the power of the progenitor god, he/she remained determined to walk his/her destined path. With his/her legendary blade in hand, he/she will never stop standing against those who slither in the dark until Fódlan at last knows everlasting peace."
Male Byleth
Byleth, Wings of the Hegemon and Edelgard, Flame Emperor
"Byleth and Edelgard ended the tyranny of a godlike being. Byleth was wounded and lost the power of the progenitor god, but it mattered not, as he and Edelgard had each other. To ensure lasting peace, the two fought against those who slither in the dark, and to ensure a society where people can rise and fall by their own merits, they spent their lives reforming the antiquated class system. They achieved much in their time together, and it is said that they were sometimes spotted leaving the palace to privately enjoy the world they created. How they spent those precious moments, none but the two of them will ever know."
Byleth and Linhardt
"Though grateful for the end of the war, Byleth and Linhardt were disappointed to see that there was no time to relax. The fight against those who slither in the dark began immediately, and Linhardt abandoned his territory to help fight for a world of peace and quiet. Though the struggle was bitter, he took heard in the knowledge that once it was over, he and Byleth could spend the rest of their days in leisure, chasing idle pursuits far away from the stage of battle."
Byleth, Wings of the Hegemon and Bernadetta, Eternal Loner
"Almost as soon as Byleth and Bernadetta were finally wed, the battle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. Many were concerned that the new leader of House Varley would do little more than hide, but she fell in alongside her husband and followed him everywhere, fighting to bring lasting peace to Fódlan. Forced to throw herself into one terrifying battle after another, Bernadetta developed such a tough character, it is said that absolutely nothing could frighten her."
Byleth, Wings of the Hegemon and Dorothea, Devoted Heart
"Almost immediately after the modest wedding between Byleth and Dorothea was over, the battle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. Dorothea chose not to take the field of battle with a weapon but rather to tend the household in her spouse's absence and provide emotional support to his effort to bring peace to Fódlan. Many years after the war had ended, Dorothea's diary was uncovered, revealing the full extent of the happy life the couple had shared. The love poems that they wrote to one another were published as a collection."
Byleth, Wings of the Hegemon and Petra, Seafaring Princess
"As Byleth set out to fight those who slither in the dark, Petra left the throne of Brigid to her family to follow him. The pair fought many hard battles together against this terrifying enemy before finally emerging victorious after the long war. Finally able to breathe easy, they took up residence in the city of Nuvelle, which lies on the western edge of Fódlan, where they enjoyed the same waters that touch her homeland of Brigid. As their love grew, so did their mastery of each other's native language."
Byleth, Wings of the Hegemon and Mercedes, Benevolent Soul
"Byleth and Mercedes wed in haste, that they might better focus on their battle against those who slither in the dark. The struggle was long and arduous, but their passionate love supported them through it. When at last the fight was done, they moved to a small village in the Faerghus region and started an orphanage. There they took in and raised children who had lost their families in the war, regardless of their blood or circumstances of birth. It is said that Mercedes was never happier than when she was surrounded by smiling children, free of all worry."
Byleth, Wings of the Hegemon and Annette, Bloomed Overachiever
"When the fighting was over and the Officers Academy was reopened, Byleth was reinstated as a professor. His wife, Annette, took on a position alongside him teaching sorcery, and the couple spent many years educating and guiding generations of students. In their later years, they attempted to retire to a quiet life in a village near Annette's hometown. That quickly proved to be too quiet of a life for them, and so they opened up a local school and resumed teaching. They continued on as educators until the end of their long and happy lives."
Byleth, Wings of the Hegemon and Ingrid, Stalwart Knight
"When the war at last came to an end, Byleth and his wife, Ingrid, relocated to her hometown. Galatea territory had been seized by the Empire, but the emperor granted Ingrid's request to retain governance of it. She and her husband were initially received with skepticism, but together they worked hard to reform the territory and address its food shortages. Through hard work, pure grit, and a truly knightly dedication to the people, they were able to transform the barren landscape into what would, decades later, become known as the most fertile grounds in all of Fódlan."

"Almost immediately after Byleth and Lysithea had celebrated their engagement, the struggle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. Together they fought tirelessly to bring the war to an end so that Fódlan could have lasting peace. Afterward, they left the Imperial army for Ordelia territory, where they were officially wed. Byleth and Marianne
"Almost immediately after Byleth and Marianne had celebrated their engagement, the struggle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. Together they fought tirelessly to bring the war to an end so that Fódlan could have lasting peace. Afterwards, they left the Imperial army and were officially wed in Edmund territory. In time, the pair grew into first-rate politicians under the tutelage of Margrave Edmund himself. With the emperor's blessing, they annexed part of Riegan territory, including Derdriu, and used their influence to improve relations and expand trade with foreign nations. Their work greatly contributed to the restoration of the Empire."
Byleth and Hilda (Note: Unused in the final game)
"Almost immediately after Byleth and Hilda finished their gorgeous wedding ceremony, the struggle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. They fought tirelessly to bring lasting peace to Fódlan, and afterward retired from the Imperial army to Goneril territory. Hilda's hobby of creating fashionable accessories bore fruit, and she leveraged her husband's reputation as a hero to create the first artisan academy in Fódlan. The school produced many talented craftsmen, one of whom created a statue that expertly captured the hero's delight at receiving the gift of a bracelet from his wife."
Byleth and Leonie
"Almost immediately after Byleth and Leonie had finished their lively wedding ceremony, the struggle against those that slither in the dark began in earnest. Leaving the Black Eagle Strike Force behind, the pair formed a new group called the Jeralt Company and invited all their friends and allies to join them. The group fought all across Fódlan, cementing the Empire's victory and cleaning up its enemies. With Fódlan secure, all but two members of the Jeralt Company returned to their homes. The couple continued their careers as mercenaries, taking on all kinds of tasks, from monster hunting to tavern security. Their strength and humility were well loved."
Byleth and Manuela
"Very soon after Byleth and Manuela had finished their grand and elaborate wedding ceremony, the struggle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. The pair fought many battles together, but Manuela had to leave the front lines when she discovered she was with child. The happiness of their family was plain to see on the faces that were immortalized in their family portraits."
Byleth and Alois
"When all of the fighting was over, Byleth embarked on another wandering journey as a mercenary. He traveled all over Fódlan, following his father's steps. When he at last drifted into Remire Village, he was reunited with Alois, who had moved there with his family and was now living on a farm. On Alois's advice, he decided to stay a while, and before he knew it, five years had passed. He fell in love with a kind woman in the village, and they had a modest wedding. It is said that Alois was so overcome with emotion on that day that his weeping could be heard from anywhere in the village."
Byleth and Shamir
"Shortly after Byleth and Shamir had finished their modest and stately wedding ceremony, the struggle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. The pair fought in many battles together, and Shamir lent her talent and experience as a sniper for the Knights of Seiros to the cause of lasting peace for Fódlan. As a couple, their daily lives were busy indeed, and both were famously taciturn, but it is said that they cherished their quiet time together—especially once they began to have children."
Byleth and Jeritza
"After the war for Fódlan, Byleth and Jeritza threw themselves fully into Emperor Edelgard's struggle against those who slither in the dark. Though the battle proved vicious, none could stand against the combined might of shining sword and reaper's scythe, and the pair became venerated by history as heroes of Adrestia. Once those who slither in the dark were forever vanquished, the two heroes stole away in secret and vanished without a trace. Their whereabouts thereafter have been the subject of much conjecture by historians."
Byleth and Yuri
"No sooner than the modest wedding ceremony between Byleth and Yuri over than the battle of those who slither in the dark began in earnest. Through the bloody and brutal fight, the couple became known for their constant determination the safe every possible life, leaving none behind. The battle marks the last mention of them on official sources, but stories abound of the order they brought to the underworld upon their triumphant return."
Byleth and Constance
"Almost as soon as Byleth and Constance were wed in a spectacular ceremony, the battle with those who slither in the dark began in earnest. Constance’s efforts to understand and implement the magical techniques of the enemy quickly became instrumental, both to the fight and to the era of peaceful Imperial rule that followed. Though, the couple was known during their time for their countless contributions to the Empire, they were remembered best for their charming, if unnerving, anecdotes of a wife’s relentless insistence on using her husband as a test subject for experiments."
Byleth and Hapi
"Almost immediately after Byleth and Hapi had celebrated their marriage in a lively ceremony, the battle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. Contrary to expectations, Hapi wholeheartedly charged to the front lines and fought alongside her husband until true peace came to Fódlan. Afterward, the couple vanished without a trace—at least until someone claiming to be a descendant produced a chronicle of their lives. According to that account, the pair had retired to a secluded village at the foot of the Oghma Mountains. There, the author writes, they pledged their undying love for each other underneath a starry sky."
Female Byleth
Byleth and Edelgard
"Byleth and Edelgard ended the tyranny of a godlike being. Byleth was wounded and lost the power of the progenitor god, but it mattered not, as she and Edelgard had each other.
Byleth and Hubert
"After a fierce battle, Byleth and Edelgard finally brought the tyranny of a godlike being to an end. Though wounded in conflict and stripped of divine power, Byleth continued to fight alongside the emperor to bring true peace. Hubert joined them in this fight, fulfilling his promise to confront those who slither in the dark head-on. In that darkness, Byleth and Hubert formed an unbreakable bond. It is said that, as a married couple, they were totally inseparable."
Byleth and Ferdinand
"Byleth and Ferdinand celebrated their marriage with a lavish wedding, but almost immediately afterward, the battle with those who slither in the dark began in earnest. After being named Duke Aegir, Ferdinand overcame a slew of obstacles to help House Hrym and his family's territory recover. At the same time, he fought alongside his spouse for a true, lasting peace in Fódlan. History books extol Ferdinand's success as a lord of his territories, but they do not make mention of the hard-fought battles he endured alongside his wife. Thus, half of his life's work is lost to time."
Byleth and Linhardt
"Though grateful for the end of the war, Byleth and Linhardt were disappointed to see that there was no time to relax. The fight against those who slither in the dark began immediately, and Linhardt abandoned his territory to help fight for a world of peace and quiet. Though the struggle was bitter, he took heard in the knowledge that once it was over, he and Byleth could spend the rest of their days in leisure, chasing idle pursuits far away from the stage of battle."
Byleth and Caspar
"Almost immediately after Byleth and Caspar had celebrated their marriage in style, the battle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. As the new Minister of Military Affairs, Caspar worked with Byleth to command the Imperial army and bring peace to Fódlan. His impulsive bravery, tempered by his spouse's more level head, proved instrumental to victory in a great many battles. Their troops became known most of all for their ability to laugh in the face of danger."
Byleth and Dorothea
"Almost immediately after the modest wedding between Byleth and Dorothea was over, the battle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. Dorothea chose not to take the field of battle with a weapon but rather to tend the household in her spouse's absence and provide emotional support to her effort to bring peace to Fódlan. Many years after the war had ended, Dorothea's diary was uncovered, revealing the full extent of the happy life the couple had shared. The love poems that they wrote to one another were published as a collection."
Byleth and Felix
"Byleth and Felix were engaged to be married soon after the Battle of Fhirdiad. The war against those who slither in the dark was long and arduous, but they found solace always in one another. When the fighting was finally done, they held a modest wedding ceremony and entered a new life together as husband and wife. Where they went afterward is not known, but it is widely believed that they traveled the world as mercenaries, side by side, blades in hand."
Byleth and Ashe
"Byleth and Ashe, after seeing the war through to its end, continued the fight against those who slither in the dark. Supporting one another through that long, hard fight grew their love until they became totally inseparable. When the fight was finally done, they departed together on a journey to heal the world, one person at a time. No records exist of their journey, but the legend of this loving and charitable couple lives on in folktales."
Byleth and Sylvain
"When the fighting was over, Byleth and Sylvain were married. As the new leaders of House Gautier, they focused their efforts on the restoration of northern Fódlan, which had been deeply scarred by the ravages of war. Once this task was complete, they set their sights on improving relations with the Sreng people in an effort to remove the perceived need for the power of Crests. This accomplishment took a great deal of hard work, but the two refused to give up on their ideals. In time, the two had a large and loving family. They lived happily and loved their children equally, regardless of whether or not they bore a Crest."
Byleth and Mercedes
"Byleth and Mercedes wed in haste, that they might better focus on their battle against those who slither in the dark. The struggle was long and arduous, but their passionate love supported them through it. When at last the fight was done, they moved to a small village in the Faerghus region and started an orphanage. There they took in and raised children who had lost their families in the war, regardless of their blood or circumstances of birth. It is said that Mercedes was never happier than when she was surrounded by smiling children, free of all worry."
Byleth and Lorenz
"Soon after Byleth and Lorenz had celebrated their marriage in style, the battle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. After fighting hard to bring true peace to Fódlan, Lorenz took over as head of House Gloucester, and he and his wife focused their efforts on restoring the territory. They had an active political and military life over the years, working together to overcome many hardships. After decades of dedicated service to the people, Lorenz grew weak and retired. Byleth followed suit, and they entrusted House Gloucester to their son. It is said that he was the spitting image of his father, right down to his signature red rose."
Byleth and Raphael
"Byleth and Raphael celebrated their marriage with a small but lively wedding. Almost immediately afterward, the battle with those who slither in the dark began in earnest, and Raphael devoted himself wholly to his wife's protection until the chaos of war was finally quelled. It is said the great affection between the two was viewed by many as a symbol of the new era of peace that followed. They were long remembered, even after they stepped back from the public eye, thanks to portraits painted by Raphael's sister, Maya."
Byleth and Ignatz
"Byleth and Ignatz celebrated their marriage with a small but lively wedding. Almost immediately afterward, the battle with those who slither in the dark began in earnest. Ignatz supported his wife not only as a general, but also as an artist, wielding his brush to capture the image of her fighting alongside the emperor. His most famous series of paintings, called Chronicles of a Hero, influenced future artists for generations to come—but it is said that his most precious work was one from his early days, entitled Descent of the Goddess. It is believed that he used his beloved wife as a reference for the beautiful visage depicted in that scene."
Byleth and Hanneman
"Very soon after Byleth and Hanneman had finished their quiet wedding ceremony, the struggle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. The pair fought in many battles, eventually bringing true peace to Fódlan. Afterwards, they worked together to pursue Hanneman's goal to determine the workings of the Crests and to do away with the inequality caused by them. Their research resulted in magical tools which could be used even without the aid of Crests. The Father of Crestology and his spouse earned worldwide renown for devising tools that became a cornerstone of progress."
Byleth and Alois
"When all of the fighting was over, Byleth embarked on another wandering journey as a mercenary. She traveled all over Fódlan, following her father's steps. When she at last drifted into Remire Village, she was reunited with Alois, who had moved there with his family and was now living on a farm. On Alois's advice, she decided to stay a while, and before she knew it, five years had passed. She fell in love with a kind man in the village, and they had a modest wedding. It is said that Alois was so overcome with emotion on that day that his weeping could be heard from anywhere in the village."
Byleth and Balthus
"Almost as soon as Byleth and Balthus finished their lively wedding celebration, the battle with those who slither in the dark began in earnest. Leading from the front lines, the couple drove the enemy back again and again, causing such carnage on the battlefield that even their Imperial allies and subordinates were intimidated. After hostilities came to an end, their names faded from official historical records but persisted in folk tales. Of the stories that spread to every corner of Fódlan and survive to this day, the most prominent one features criminals who threaten to abduct a traveler's wife. The traveler laughs and wishes them the best of luck."
"End of spoilers. It's a pleasure doing business with you!"

Fighter-byleth

Official artwork of Male and Female Byleth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

“Byleth chooses Smash house!”
—Male Byleth's introduction blurb.
“Byleth Recruits... Byleth!”
—Female Byleth's introduction blurb.

Byleth appears as the fifth DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the final fighter for Fighter's Pass Volume 1. Zach Aguilar and Yūsuke Kobayashi reprise their roles as Male Byleth, while Jeannie Tirado and Shizuka Ito reprise their role as Female Byleth.

Byleth retains using the Sword of the Creator, which retains its ability to transform into a whip sword, giving them great range. The sword is primarily used in their up smash, up aerial, and up special, as well as their neutral attack, tilt attacks, dash attack, and throws. They also wield Areadbhar (for their forward smash, forward aerial, back aerial, and side special), Aymr (for their down smash, down aerial, and down special), and Failnaught (for their neutral air and neutral special). Described by Masahiro Sakurai as a distance oriented character, Byleth excels in medium-to-long range combat, but is not as effective at close range in most instances, which is mainly due to their low mobility.

Byleth's color palettes are divided between male and female variations, and include Dimitri and Claude colors for male Byleth and Edelgard and Sothis colors for female Byleth. Their final color palettes for both genders have Byleth in their story transformation when merged with Sothis.

Special Moveset

 • Neutral Special: Failnaught: Byleth briefly prepares an arrow before firing it at an opponent. Byleth can charge the bow by holding down the Special button, though the charge cannot be stored so Byleth will automatically fire. At full charge, the arrow gains additional damage, speed, and knockback. Byleth may change direction and cancel the move using the shield button mid charge unless they are preparing to fire the fully charged shot, in which they must fire it.
 • Side Special: Areadbhar: Byleth swings Areadbhar upward, attacking opponents in its range. The move has excellent reach and applies Areadbhar's property of dealing more damage if enemies are hit by the tip of the Lance. If the Smash attack is input while charging, Byleth will move slightly forward during the move's execution
 • Up Special: Sword of the Creator: Byleth extends the Sword of the Creator in an upward diagonal angle. If it contacts an enemy, Byleth will reel themselves into their aerial opponent before spiking them into the ground, though if it makes contact before 45%, they will simply be launched upwards. If it makes contact with a ledge, Byleth will pull themselves to it, and if it makes contact to the wall of the stage, Byleth will pull themselves up to it and jump off, from where they can grapple again.
 • Down Special: Aymr: Byleth briefly winds up Aymr before smashing it into the ground. During the windup, Byleth has Super Armor and will not flinch from an attack except for grab moves. The move has excellent damage and knockback for opponents who are hit by the axe, however a small area around the axe's impact will also inflict less damage and knockback to opponents. Byleth can turn around the move at the expense of more lag, and during its startup can drop from platforms.
 • Final Smash: Progenitor God Ruptured Heaven: Byleth uses the Sword of the Creator to slash a small area in front of them. Sothis appears in the background and grants Byleth additional power as they perform Ruptured Heaven on the opponents hit by the initial slash.

Byleth is illustrated in the trading card game Fire Emblem Cipher with the following cards:

Etymology

Byleth is a variation of Beleth, a king of Hell. According to Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, Ham, Noah's son, was the first in invoking him after the flood, and wrote a book on mathematics with his help. This alludes to Byleth's nickname "The Ashen Demon" for their emotionless countenance on the battlefield.

Eisner, Byleth's surname, is a German name related to various iron-working occupations such as smithing.
