Immediately assuming that Elise has been abducted and that Corrin is still being confused by the lies of the Hoshidans, Camilla launches an attack while refusing Corrin's pleas for her to listen to reason. The ensuing battle results in her defeat, whereupon she, in a state of weakness and despair, laments that Corrin is never returning to Nohr and that Elise is lost to her. Under the joint persuasion of both Elise and Corrin, Camilla learns of their intent to parley with Xander and Garon to put an end to the conflict between Hoshido and Nohr. “From this point forward, I will do nothing that would upset Corrin. Though, if Corrin asks, I wouldn't object to taking one or two of you out.”
—Camilla joining in Revelation Chapter 12.

Camilla is a major playable character from Fire Emblem Fates on the Conquest and Revelation routes. The second eldest of the Nohrian royal siblings, Camilla commands the loyalty of Selena and Beruka as her personal retainers. Gifted with battle skills honed on her own, Camilla fights for Nohr on the back of her beloved Wyvern mount.

Profile

Camilla is the eldest daughter and the second eldest child of five in the Nohrian royal family and the daughter of King Garon and an unnamed concubine. When Corrin was adopted into the family during their childhood, she acknowledged them as one of her younger siblings. Much like Leo and Elise, Camilla was unfortunately used as a tool by her mother in order to gain favor with Garon. In a bid to fill the void left in the wake of the lack of maternal love in her life, she thereafter became obsessively attached to Corrin, acting the part of the overprotective maternal figure to them.

At some point of time prior to the events of Fates, Camilla was the target of an assassination. When the assassin approached her, Camilla offered to hire her on the spot. This assassin turned out to be Beruka, who would later be appointed as one of Camilla's personal retainers. Later, Camilla came to meet a young mercenary girl whose strong combat skills deeply impressed her. This girl, Selena, was thereafter appointed as her other retainer.

Prologue

Camilla makes her first formal appearance at the end of Chapter 1, where, following the mock duel that Xander and Corrin engage in, she enters the scene with Elise. Upon entry, she immediately expresses concern over the possible injuries that Corrin could have sustained before excitedly announcing that Corrin has been granted permission to return to the capital of Nohr with their siblings.

When Corrin is later escorted into the throne room of Castle Krakenburg with their siblings in Chapter 2, Camilla, following Elise's lead, expresses concern over their safety in leaving outside of their fortress's magical barrier. Corrin responds by resolutely stating their will to fight for Nohr before they are entrusted the cursed blade of Ganglari and issued a challenge to defeat a group of Hoshidan prisoners. Following the successful completion of the challenge, when Corrin prepares to fight Xander to protect the prisoners from being executed, Camilla is rendered incapable of doing much else apart from begging him not to turn hostile against their brother/sister. After Leo rescues the prisoners by pretending to execute them, Camilla accompanies her siblings in escorting them out of the castle to freedom.

Later in Chapter 3, upon learning that Corrin has been punished with the task of investigating an abandoned fort on the Hoshido-Nohr border, Camilla immediately attempts to lend them her aid, only to be stopped by Iago. She later shows up again with the rest of her siblings to reinforce Corrin after they are ambushed by a group of Hoshidan Ninja led by Saizo. Here, she, in a fit of rage at the Hoshidans for attacking Corrin, promptly kills two Samurais in cold blood, much to Corrin's horrified disbelief. When Xander later orders Corrin to depart with Gunter first, Camilla does not see them again until the onset of Chapter 6, when the forces of Hoshido and Nohr clash at the Plains of Hoshido.

Birthright

If Corrin chooses to side with Hoshido, Camilla will aid her siblings in a desperate bid to defeat the Hoshidans and force Corrin to return to Nohr. The Nohrian army is eventually defeated by Corrin and their siblings, and they are thereafter forced to make their retreat.

Camilla reappears in Chapter 13, where she personally greets Corrin as they enter Cheve in search of Ryoma. Initially treating them with affection by embracing them, she masks the hurt she feels at their betrayal by commenting on them being loved by their new siblings and allies. Quickly turning hostile against Corrin thereafter, Camilla attempts to attack them before coldly announcing her intent to kill every single member of their army for taking them from her. Shortly before the battle that ensues between Camilla and Corrin's armies, she apologizes to them for having to fulfill her role as a member of the Nohrian royalty. The battle concludes with the defeat of Camilla's army, whereupon she expresses satisfaction at being slain by Corrin's hand, only to be surprised by their refusal to do so. When she asks why they joined with Hoshido, Corrin proceeds to inform her that Garon's machinations almost cost them their life, a fact that she readily believes, prompting her to curse Garon's name, until Leo interrupts and arrives shortly after to execute Corrin, but a timely rescue by Ryoma and Scarlet forces Leo to retreat with Camilla in tow.

Later in Chapter 21, Elise reveals that following Corrin's decision to join Hoshido, Camilla has lapsed into a state of extreme depression, rarely leaving her room to interact with anyone.

Camilla appears again in Chapter 23, where she locates Elise with Corrin's army in the Underground Passage leading directly into Castle Krakenburg after being alerted by her two retainers, Arthur and Effie. Immediately assuming that Elise has been abducted and that Corrin is still being confused by the lies of the Hoshidans, Camilla launches an attack while refusing Corrin's pleas for her to listen to reason. The ensuing battle results in her defeat once again, whereupon she, in a state of weakness and despair, laments that Corrin is never returning to Nohr and that Elise is lost to her. Under the joint persuasion of both Elise and Corrin, Camilla learns of their intent to parley with Xander and Garon to put an end to the conflict between Hoshido and Nohr and finally listens to Corrin's words about bringing peace before she collapses shortly after due to exhaustion from her wounds and is later taken back to her quarters by her retainers.

Camilla does not appear again until the sequence following Garon's defeat in the Endgame, where she and Leo attend Ryoma's coronation as the king of Hoshido on his invitation. During a brief conversation she shares with Corrin after the ceremony, Camilla reveals her decision to give up the Nohrian throne in favor of Leo, believing that he will make a better ruler than her. While she has forgiven Corrin, the deaths of Xander and Elise weigh heavily on her, with Corrin sharing their grieve with her.

Conquest

If Corrin chooses to side with Nohr, Camilla, vowing to protect Corrin, aids her siblings to battle against the Hoshidan army. The Hoshidan army is eventually defeated by Corrin and their siblings, and they are thereafter forced to make their retreat.

Midway through Corrin's struggle with a sudden Hoshidan invasion led by Takumi in Chapter 10, Camilla arrives in the Port Town of Dia with her two retainers to reinforce their forces. When questioned on whether she has completed the mission assigned to her, she coyly admits that she has managed to convince Xander and Leo to assume her responsibilities in order to allow her to aid Corrin.

Later in Chapter 11, Camilla provides encouragement to Corrin as they ascend the mountain slopes of Notre Sagesse in order to gain access to the Sevenfold Sanctuary and seek the advice of the Rainbow Sage. When Corrin's army is ambushed by the Hoshidan army in the Sevenfold Sanctuary, Camilla unhesitatingly helps force the enemy to retreat. When directed to face against Hinoka in battle, Camilla, in response to Hinoka heatedly insisting that Corrin belongs to the Hoshidan royal family, gloatingly reminds her that they had chosen to remain by her side instead of Hinoka's. Following the conclusion of the battle with Corrin's army's victory, Camilla reveals that Corrin had urged their army not to kill any of the Hoshidans in battle when she comments on them being too kind for their own good.

Camilla is later seen walking towards Cheve with Corrin and Elise in Chapter 13, where the three are ambushed by Takumi while they are in the midst of discussing their next course of action. Alarmed at the sudden attack launched by Takumi, she urges Corrin to remain behind and allow her to protect them. A battle ensues shortly after between Corrin's army and the rebels led by Takumi and Scarlet, with the former eventually emerging victorious. Following the battle's conclusion, Camilla, maintaining a demeanor of calm, reveals that the injured Hoshidan soldiers have been murdered by Hans, with Scarlet being killed in a particularly brutal manner. In response to Corrin's distress, Camilla urges them to never question Garon's authority and to simply do his bidding unquestioningly to preserve their life.

Camilla later guides Corrin's army to Cyrkensia in the Kingdom of Nestra in Chapter 14, where they are to meet with Garon. When a battle later ensues between an invading Hoshidan force in the Opera House, Camilla will aid Corrin in driving off the invaders.

When Xander finally joins Corrin's army in Chapter 16, Camilla expresses joy at the fact that her family is whole again. Later, shortly after Corrin's army boards a ship en route to Hoshido, a battle breaks out when it is ambushed by a band of thieves led by Shura. Following the end of the battle, Camilla attempts to convince them to kill Shura. If Corrin chooses to do so, she will be relieved with his choice, but if they do not, she prays that their kindness never becomes their undoing.

When Camilla and her siblings enter Izumo in Chapter 18 with the intention of relaxing from the chaos of warfare, they stumble upon the Hoshidan siblings. Xander immediately launches into a heated exchange of hostilities with Ryoma, and both crown princes then attempt to engage in a duel, only to be stopped by Izana, the duke of Izumo. Izana then proceeds to confiscate the weapons of both parties, and Ryoma later seeks an audience with Corrin while they are in the midst of speaking with Xander. Before Ryoma is able to properly start a conversation, Izana emerges with two soldiers and proceeds to apprehend him. Izana then unveils himself to be but a guise used by the deceptive Zola to kidnap the Hoshidan royals, and is forced to fend against the Nohrians when Xander decides to punish him for his treachery. Following the end of the ensuing battle, Camilla and her siblings join the Hoshidans in a feast. Despite the fact that they are still at war, they uphold Izumo's pact of neutrality.

Later in Chapter 21, as Corrin's army ascends the Eternal Stairway in a bid to enter the realm of Hoshido, they are ambushed by a horde of Faceless and Stoneborn. Camilla, somehow aware that Garon is responsible for the ambush, (when it was actually Iago sending the Faceless to ambush them) airily wonders why he has sent them to attack Corrin's army, only to be brought back to her senses by a panicking Leo. The Nohrain royals barely manage to escape the Faceless ambush, with Lilith being the only causality.

In Chapter 24, after Corrin's army successfully defeats Hinoka's forces and put a standstill to her attempt to protect Castle Shirasagi, Camilla places her axe against Hinoka's neck as she calmly informs her that she is still alive only at the mercy of Corrin. She then states that any attempt on Hinoka's part to harm Corrin will result in her death before indirectly revealing that Sakura had been spared. Camilla follows up by urging Hinoka to heed Corrin's advice and go into hiding before teasing her for being both adorable and attractive.

Following the capture of Castle Shirasagi in Chapter 25, Camilla and her siblings are left waiting outside the throne room with Hans and Iago after Garon marches inside in a wave of triumph in Chapter 26. While Camilla is in the midst of conversing with her siblings, Iago makes a failed attempt to assassinate Corrin for sparing Hinoka. Much to Iago's horror, Xander steps before Corrin and chooses to take their side before challenging him to a duel, asserting his displeasure with his cruel ways. He is quickly joined by the rest of his siblings, with Camilla calmly establishing her desire to kill anyone who dares threaten Corrin's life, including Iago. Together with her siblings, Camilla manages to defeat and kill both Hans and Garon's loyalist, with Leo personally killing Iago once and for all. As Camilla celebrate Iago's death with the others, saying there is no one left to harm or kill Corrin. However, Corrin, much to Camilla's incredulity and disbelief, reveals that the war is not yet over, as Garon still has yet to be slain.

In Chapter 27, Corrin leads Camilla and the rest of their siblings into the throne room, where they manage to prove the truth of their words when Garon, seated upon the throne of truth, is revealed to be a slimy monstrosity in actuality. Initially stunned into inaction, Camilla and her siblings refuses to fight their father, but are prompted by Xander to aid Corrin in slaying Garon when he attempts to behead them, and they all join in to put an end to Garon's reign. Shortly after Garon is killed, the Nohrian siblings have barely any time to process their grief and shock before they are caught off guard by a sudden attack launched by a possessed Takumi. As Corrin walks towards Takumi with the intent of letting him kill them, they are struck when their Grim Yato fails to deflect an attack launched by a single arrow shot with Skadi, causing them to slip into a state of unconsciousness.

As Camilla and the rest of her siblings struggle to fight against Takumi in the Endgame, Corrin regains consciousness and aids them in ending Takumi's rampage once and for all.

With the defeat of both Garon and Takumi, Xander is, shortly after the final battle, crowned as the new king of Nohr as his siblings watch on with pride.

She tells Elise that she should not get involved with Garon's affairs and tell Xander, and says that there is something wrong with Garon, and of something unnatural at play. Despite Elise's protests of wanting to help Corrin, Camilla tells her that if they act hastily, it will put more trouble on Corrin, so she tells her that they have no choice but hold back, to which Elise reluctantly accepts.

While in the midst of reassuring Corrin of Flora and the Ice Tribe fighters' safety, she notices Azura, Sakura and Takumi quietly listening in, prompting her to sarcastically question whether it is a Hoshidan tradition to eavesdrop. Camilla then takes notice of Azura and recognizes her as the daughter of Queen Arete, Garon's second wife. She then reveals that prior to Azura's kidnap, the Nohrian siblings were explicitly instructed not to interact with her against their will. Camilla then agrees to work on reforging a new bond with Azura and to forge new relations with the Hoshidans.

Camilla follows Corrin until the end of the war and ultimately aids them in slaying Anankos. In the aftermath of the battle, she watches as Corrin is crowned the new ruler of Valla. As Ryoma and Xander forge a new peaceful relationship between Hoshido and Nohr, Camilla vows alongside her siblings and the Hoshidan siblings that they will put all their efforts in maintaining peace to Corrin.

Personality

Camilla's most notable trait is her strong motherly instincts, ones that are very specifically directed towards Corrin. Her brand of care towards them is often excessive to the point of being uncomfortable at various junctures by even members of other armies. Through Camilla's interactions with Corrin, it can be observed that she completely disregards the fact that they are an adult. She chooses to treat them as one would a child, using language that is remarkably juvenile, commonly used when speaking to adolescents. Camilla's actions also prove this fact, as she constantly makes it a point to identify discomforts that Corrin may not necessarily be experiencing in a bid to offer them her assistance. In this regard, she has been known to threaten death upon people whom she perceives will bring Corrin grief.

Many of her supports shows that Camilla's nature comes from the horrible experiences from her past and lack of maternal love in her life, admitting to Niles when he confronts her about such things, explaining her overprotective, smothering attitude towards Corrin is because she knows what it is like to be alone, and doesn't want Corrin to ever feel what she felt growing up. This does not mean her fawning is entirely reserved for Corrin alone; she is known to treat her younger siblings as if they were her children, although at a level that is not intense as the one that she adopts in her treatment of Corrin. Her supports with Leo is a case in point, where she, despite acknowledging his battle prowess, refers to him as her beloved "baby brother" after his own insecure rant to her. In Revelation chapter 16, like Xander and Leo, Camilla recognized Azura to be her sister and wanted to spend time with her as she and her half-brothers never forgotten about her despite of her mistreatment by the Nohrian nobility.

Camilla adopts a completely different persona when she interacts with others, where she is portrayed as a figure of maturity and elegance. Her supports with a variety of different characters stand as testament to this fact, where she is known to adopt a language register that is formal and polite, befitting a member of the Nohrian royal family. Through her supports with Laslow, for one, she responds to his quips with a gentle politeness in spite of her awareness of his philandering ways and them broaching subjects of a morbid nature. Camilla shows hatred towards Iago, hating and distrusting him for being cruel and attempting to kill Corrin many times. She readily plans to kill him on the first opportunity when he is no longer protected by her father and shows much pleasure and delight when Leo finally kills Iago for good, knowing he cannot harm Corrin any longer.

Camilla has also been depicted as ruthless and bloodthirsty on the battlefield, deriving disturbing joy from striking down her enemies with wild abandon. While she is not without the capacity to show mercy to her foes, Camilla usually only does so on the behest of Corrin. In Birthright and Conquest, she is particularly cruel to Hinoka, in the former, she become jealous and attempts to kill Hinoka and the Hoshidian royals for thinking they took Corrin away from and in the latter, she mocks Hinoka over that Corrin is fighting for the Nohrian army and has, essentially, chosen her over Hinoka. However, while she may have different desires than Corrin in dealing with the defeated Hoshidan siblings, she nevertheless respects Corrin's choice to spare them, warning Hinoka to accept Corrin's mercy (or else she will cut her down); plus she personally tells Hinoka that Sakura is alive, to make sure that she will get to safety (under the premise of seeing Sakura again when the war is over). In Revelation, she shows a quite kinder disposition towards Hinoka, seeking to approach and look for ways to connect with her rather than antagonizing her like in Conquest.

Camilla is known to enjoy bathing the most (including hot springs and spa treatments).

Overview

Base Class Set

Because of the fact that she's a pre-promoted unit, Camilla possesses solid base stats that allow her to keep up with the player's army up right from the moment she is recruited. For the most part, she boasts growths that are strong across the board, with more focus placed on Strength, Skill, Speed and Resistance. Although Camilla is not very strong in terms of Luck, this weakness is almost negligible due to her performance in other stat departments. As a Malig Knight, she has good offensive diversity with Axes and Tomes, but has difficulties defeating enemies with Tomes due to her low base Magic and growth rate though due to the notably higher strength can deal a good amount of damage with magic weapons such as the Bolt Axe. Due to being pre-promoted, Camilla already has her Wyvern Rider skills learned, with Strength +2 slightly boosting her physical damage and Lunge to set up swarming against certain enemies. Her personal skill, Rose's Thorns, which boosts the damage dealt by adjacent allies and causes them to sustain a little less damage from hostile attacks, allows her to support frontline attackers while still attacking foes. When combined with her high Movement of 8 and her access to great skills from the Malig Knight class, Camilla can therefore be considered a solid combat unit who acts as an asset to the player's army.

Training Camilla in her Malig Knight first allows her to learn Savage Blow, a skill that further increases her frontline attacker prowess due to it reducing the HP of all enemies in a 2 tile radius by 20% after battles she initiates. She can also learn Trample, which boosts her damage against foot units by 5.

When reclassed into the Wyvern Lord class, Camilla becomes a more physical-oriented unit. In this class, she boasts high growths in HP, Skill, Speed, Luck and Defense at the cost of reduced Magic and Resistance. One of the skills she can learn is Rally Defense, a support skill that allows her to boost the Defense of nearby allies, thereby allowing her to act as a more effective support frontline unit. She can also learn Swordbreaker, a skill that sees the most use in reducing the threat posed by Wyrmslayers.

It should be noted that the game calculates experience for Camilla as if she were five levels lower than her displayed level, allowing her to gain experience at a faster rate than most standard units.

Secondary Class Set

Camilla also has natural access to the Dark Mage class set, entailing the Sorcerer and Dark Knight promotions.

As a Sorcerer, Camilla starts with a D rank in Tomes and an improved critical rate, but these come at the expense of reduced durability, mobility and physical firepower. Remedying these flaws is the Sorcerer class's skill set, including Vengeance to accrue damage equivalent to her HP losses and Bowbreaker to gain an upper hand against Bow and Yumi-wielding foes. Bowbreaker is particularly useful for Camilla, especially if the player intends on reclassing her back into her original Malig Knight class, a class that is naturally vulnerable to attacks inflicted by Bows and Yumi. The Sorcerer class also helps Camilla to build up her Tome mastery with more ease due to the increased Magic it bestow on her.

As a Dark Knight, the most useful skill Camilla can learn is Lifetaker, one that allows her to recover HP after defeating foes in battles initiated by her. Seal Magic is the other skill that Camilla can learn, although it is not as useful due to her being naturally strong in terms of Resistance. While Camilla performs passably as a Dark Knight, the process of training her in the use of Swords is regarded as a needless drain on resources when she is already perfectly capable as a Malig Knight.

Regardless of which of the two she reclasses into, she will gain access to Heartseeker, a skill that will remedy whatever accuracy issues she suffered beforehand, should you choose to reclass her back into a wyvern riding class.

Friendship Class Sets

  • Elise: Elise grants Camilla access to the Troubadour class set, entailing the Strategist and Maid promotion. Camilla functions particularly well as a Strategist due to her base D rank in Tome mastery, although she will have to raise her Staff rank in order to act as a more viable support unit. She also gains Demoiselle and Inspiration, both of which complement her personal skill by boosting its effectiveness. As a Maid, Camilla can learn Live to Serve, which allows her to become a more competent healer by allowing her to replenish her HP when healing other allies, and Tomebreaker, which allows her to be more adept at dealing with Tome and Scroll-wielding foes.
  • Selena: Selena grants Camilla access to the Mercenary class set, entailing the Hero and Bow Knight promotions. As a Hero, Camilla gains a significant boost in her Skill and Speed in exchange for mobility. She can also learn both Sol and Good Fortune, both of which are HP-replenishing skills that allow her to last longer in battles. Apart from these, Camilla stands to learn the Mercenary skill Strong Riposte, one that makes her inflict more damage when she counterattacks, and Axebreaker, permitting her to gain the upper hand when dealing with Axe and Club-wielding foes. As a Bow Knight, Camilla gains access to Rally Skill and Shurikenbreaker, the former allowing her to support her allies with Skill boosts and the latter making her a potent anti-Ninja unit.
  • Beruka: Beruka grants Camilla access to the Fighter class set, entailing the Berserker and Hero promotions. Since Camilla is already an adept Axe-wielding unit, she will face few to no problems when being trained in this set. The Fighter skills that Camilla stands to learn include HP +5, one that further increases her maximum HP and renders her better able to tank hits, and Gamble, which boosts her critical hit rate by at the expense of her hit rate and works best when used with the Killer Axe. As a Berserker, Camilla gains access to Rally Strength, which helps her support her allies with Strength boosts, and Axefaire, which complements her natural Axe proficiency by boosting the strength of her attacks with Axes and Clubs armed.
  • Hinoka: Hinoka grants Camilla access to the Sky Knight class set, entailing the Falcon Knight and Kinshi Knight promotions. Due to not being naturally proficient in the weapons handled by the three classes in this set, quite a bit of effort must be expended in order for her to be trained. The two Sky Knight skills that Camilla stands to learn include Darting Blow and Camaraderie. Darting Blow boosts her ability to perform double attacks and is thus particularly useful when she is reverted to her Malig Knight class. Camaraderies, conversely, allows her to replenish her HP when she is positioned in close proximity to her allies. As a Falcon Knight, both Camilla's Speed and Resistance increase at the cost of her Strength, and she gains access to Rally Speed and Warding Blow. Rally Speed allows her to support her allies with Speed boosts, while Warding Blow helps her to better fend against magic-wielding foes. As a Kinshi Knight, Camilla stands to learn Air Superiority and Amaterasu. Air Superiority allows her to better fend against flying units by giving her the upper hand in battles involving them. Amaterasu, on the other hand, is a useful support skill that replenishes the HP of nearby allies and is best used in conjunction with Camilla's personal skill and Rally Speed.

Base Kit

Camilla is a flying axe wielder and one of the first three released with Heroes. She is a well-balanced unit with no particular strengths or weaknesses. One of her most notable quirks is her unusually high Res, which once upon a time let her be a great mage killer, especially when running Distant Counter, but she has since been used flexibly. However, if looking for a more focused unit, Camilla is outclasses defensively by Minerva and Michalis while Cherche and Gerome perform better offensively. Nevertheless, she is an excellent budget unit for general safety in investment and good overall support for flying and cavalry teams for reasons mentioned below.

Camilla began Heroes with Brave Axe delivering guaranteed double attacks when initiating. She received a personal weapon, Camilla's Axe, which grants her a Atk/Spd +4 buff when she is in combat while a flying or cavalry unit is within two spaces of her, granting her a decent, easy to activate buff, pushing her Atk to 50 and Spd to 36 with neutral IVs in either. When refined, Camilla can return these buffs to flying and cavalry units within two spaces herself, giving her supportive capabilities on certain teams.

Camilla overall has a rather mismatched skill set including Draconic Aura which she can deal decent damage when it activates, though she will likely need an Atk asset to make it worthwhile. Darting Blow increases her Spd by 6 when initiating, which could have allowed her Brave Axe build to potentially Quad attack or ensure a double against certain matchups with her personal weapon. Finally Savage Blow which inflicts 7 non-lethal damage to enemies within two spaces of her target if she initiates combat, which leads to decent splash damage as well as makes her a valuable unit to fodder to Staff users.

Counters

As a flying unit, Camilla is understandably weak to bows who deal effective damage, especially from the likes of Klein, Bridal Cordelia, and Brave Lyn. Red units are her biggest weakness as their color advantage deals superior damage overall, making her weak to many common units like Ayra, Zelgius, and Owain. Certain strong green units such as Hector and Brave Ike can duel her and win due to their strong damage output.

Skill Inheritance Options

Camilla’s flexibility leads to three specific sets depending on what weapon the player wishes to run, especially since she has two innate 5 star weapons. Regardless, Reposition is her best assist skill as her superior movement can allow her to transport allies over mountains, rivers, and other general terrain. Moonbow is a safe option as it charges quickly and helps to bypass her opponent’s Def. Iceberg is also worth considering as her Res is high enough to use them effectively as well. Her remaining skills depend on her weapon and style, though her Skill C is usually a flier supportive skill such as Goad Fliers, Hone Fliers, and Fortify Fliers.

While Cherche exceeded her in every way with a Brave Axe and later received her own enhanced Brave Axe, Camilla can still use hers with great effectiveness. To push her damage, Death Blow is a better choice for the raw Atk boost while Desperation allows her to potentially quad.

Using her personal Axe, Fury is great for general stat boosts and giving her a niche as a general duelist in combat. She will also take Desperation to again provide follow ups against faster opponents.

Prior to her personal weapon, Camilla was used primarily to counter mages, taking a Slaying Axe WITH Distant Counter, and Quick Riposte to make her not only primarily to take care of mages, but also turn her into a strong enemy phase unit.

Overview

Secret Book (Artwork)
Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor's personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.
Base Set

Spring Camilla was the first mage flying unit introduced. Her initial months were lukewarm at best as she had spectacular Atk and Def, but her Spd and Res were severely lacking. Her strengths were able to carve out a niche later with the then cavalry meta, able to sufficiently counter Reinhardt and even tank a single shot from Brave Lyn, especially if she runs Gronnraven, and retaliate strongly from these two highly meta units. Spring Camilla is best described as an anti-meta unit, meant to handle two of the most problematic units at the time.

Green Egg heals 4 HP whenever she initiates combat. The recovery is rather small and is a mere 10% HP recovery. Rally Attack is a decent Assist Skill that grants a +4 Atk buff to an ally, but stronger versions have been released since. Defiant Speed grants +7 to her low Spd when she is under 50% health. While she has the physical bulk to perhaps achieve that threshold, maintaining low health while keeping a unit alive is extremely difficult. Live for Bounty grants a 1.5x multiplier to shard/crystal rewards if Spring Camilla survives being used in the Training Tower, which is useful for beginning players to grind shards to level up units quickly.

Counters

Spring Camilla can resist a hit from bow users if running Gronnraven or Iote Shield, but if she is not, they serve as her biggest weakness through effective damage. Merric is a particularly strong counter if running his Excalibur tome as he not only targets her Flier status, but also her much lower Res. Red units with Distant Counter can take advantage of the weapon triangle and deal significant damage regardless if they initiates or she does. Finally, her low res makes her vulnerable to mages, particularly Red ones and a few Greens as well.

Skill Inheritance

Her weapon can vary to solidify her in a certain niche but some skills remain consistent. Reposition is a great positioning assist skill that can move allies behind her or move an ally in range to counter one of her counters. While she has enough Atk to deal significant damage, Moonbow helps to reduce enemy Res to deal more damage while Bonfire simply takes her strong Def and adds it as bonus damage. Glimmer works well on a flier based team and especially with a blade build. Skill C for her builds vary, though she is best on flier teams and such skills that boost them are her best option such as Goad Fliers, Hone Fliers, and Fortify Fliers.

For consistent results, Gronnblade allows her to take any received Flier buffs and deal massive damage. Death Blow focuses on Spring Camilla launching her one powerful Atk, reaching 54 at neutral. G Tomebreaker removes one of her potential counters, leaving only red units as her true counter with this build.

Her old Anti-Meta build took Gronnraven to force bow users into a color disadvantage and then pushing that with Triangle Adept to minimize their damage as much as possible. With Distant Def equipped as a Seal, most bows and other colorless units are helpless to inflict damage against her. Vantage ensures she can get the first hit in if she fails to kill a target and can deal large damage with it.

Overview

Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor's personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.
Base Set

New Year Camilla was the fourth sword flier introduced into the game and was a strong unit in that limited pool with only Elincia surpassing her offensively. While she is lacking in the Res department, she instead focuses on solid Spd and Def and a strong Atk stat. She is a strong frontline unit, perfectly capable of dueling units or sweeping up any stragglers.

Kadomatsu is a supportive weapon, granting allies with a +2 to their defensive stats if they are within two spaces of her, giving her allies some much needed tank stats. Draconic Aura deals bonus damage based on her Atk, which means roughly 13-15 bonus Atk when it activates. Spd/Def Bond boosts her Spd/Def by 5 when adjacent to an ally, giving her synergy when utilizing her weapon to boost her allies while boosting herself with tight positioning. Ward Fliers gives her a natural home on Fliers teams, making her an excellent support option.

Counters

As a flier, New Year Camilla is still weak to bows of all sorts so Brave Lyn, Bridal Cordelia, Kinshi Hinoka are problematic units. Her low Res is her easiest stat to exploit, which makes Linde, Lute, and Ishtar huge threats with their color advantage while some reds such as Celica and Winter Tharja also prove problematic.

Skill Inheritance

New Year Camilla should take Reposition as the standard Flier assist skill for positioning tactics and with an all flier team, it can be used universally to evade danger without any terrain hindering its usage. Moonbow is a safe Special Skill that ignores part of the enemy’s Def when activated while Bonfire is another alternative to make good use of her bulk, ultimately leaving her Special Skill up to the player on what stat they wish to exploit if her base Special is not to their liking.

Her base kit is already built to support so taking a Skill B flier unit can help out such as Flier Formation or use Link skills with reposition to boost ally stats.

She can also forgo her supportive options and become more offensively oriented, either by taking a Slaying Edge, Wo Dao, or Firesweep Sword. She can run Fury or Life and Death for the stat boosts mainly towards her offense. Desperation, Hit and Run, and even Chill Speed are worth Skill B for either set as well.

Overview

Secret Book (Artwork)
Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor's personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.
Base Set

Summer Camilla is vastly different from her past incarnations as instead of carrying bulk, she has forgone both Def and Res in favor of maximizing her Atk and Spd. Her stats makes her an excellent offensive mage who can take advantage of her flier mage status to damage foes from a distance, fly over all terrain, and receive flier buffs. Her kit is built to be on any sort of Flier team but she can synergize with just about any team so long as she can receive proper buffing, especially if run as a Bladetome user.

Her weapon Juicy Wave gives her an innate Desperation skill, freeing her slot B for other skills. Draconic Aura syncs well with her high attack, boosting her Atk by 30%. She gains an additional 6 Atk when initiating thanks to Death Blow. Flier Formation allows her to move adjacent to any flier ally within two tiles of her, granting her great mobility. Finally she carries Hone Fliers to boost her flier allies.

Counters

Having shed most of her defensive stats, she is vulnerable to both sides of the damage spectrum, but just barely has enough bulk to sustain a hit from blues of either damage type. Greens utterly demolish her and high Res Greens including Sheena, Gunnthrá , Julia, and Fallen Male Robin can soak up a hit and retaliate. Archers are still problematic as they have bonus damage against her since she is a flier.

Skill Inheritance

Summer Camilla should take Reposition as the standard Flier assist skill for positioning tactics putting defensive wall allies in front of her. Depending on her build, her skill set changes slightly. Swift Sparrow is a better initiation skill as it boosts both her Atk and Spd and is preferred universally for her sets, though Fury is a worthy budget option and can help bring her into the Desperation range. Glimmer or Moonbow work excellently with her potential builds as Fliers have tons of buffs to use and if using a Bladetome, her power grows exponentially with Glimmer in particular. Moonbow is a safer option.

If running Blárblade, she will need to inherit Desperation. Using Juicy Wave frees her Skill be to run skills like Chill Speed or Chill Resistance as it penalizes the enemy with the highest Spd or Res on their team respectively, lowering the stat in return.

Overview

Secret Book (Artwork)
Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor's personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.
Base Set

Adrift Camilla joined just slightly after Aversa who is a free unit and thus faces competition with a much more easily acquired unit. She has the highest Atk of all of her variations and has respectable Res. Her Def is on the low end, leaving her with a low physical bulk and her Spd is middling, leading to few doubles, but is not as slow as her Spring variant. Nevertheless, Adrift Camilla is capable of one-shot kills with her monstrous Atk and with Ally buffs, can decimate enemies.

Book of Dreams gives her a flat +3 to her Atk and if she is adjacent to an ally, she inflicts a -4 stat penalty on any enemy she battles with, allowing her to better destroy enemies with proper set up with her allies. Draw Back allows her to pull an ally away from danger and is workable on a Flier team. Attack Resistance Bond boosts her Atk and Res by 5 when adjacent to an ally which syncs perfectly with Book of Dreams, pushing the stat difference by 9 for damage she inflicts and magical damage she receives. Attack Resistance Link grants an Atk/Res +6 buff for herself and an ally when either she uses an Assist skill on them or an ally uses an assist on her, making it an easy buff use on most teams. Finally she holds Goad Fliers to boost the stats of flier allies in combat.

Counters

Blue units are her biggest bane, especially Distant Counter users like Fallen Hardin, Legendary Tiki, and Brave Hector. Physical Red units also can run through Camilla such as Ayra, Owain, and Sword Reinhardt. Finally, any Archer can deal effective damage against her such as Klein, Brave Lyn, and Kinshi Hinoka.

Skill Inheritance

Adrift Camilla’s skill set is generally built one way, swapping out only the weapon for a bladetome for raw damage from using her ally buffs to the fullest without needing to have someone stick close to her for her Book of Dreams to get the buff/debuff combo.

Reposition is her expected Assist Skill as it allows her to manipulate allies in a much more flexible manner and works with her Link Skill as well. Glimmer is overall her best choice, regardless if she uses a bladetome or sticks with her Book of Dreams as Adrift Camilla thrives off of Buffs. Death Blow also works universally as focuses all of her attention on maximizing her Atk will ensure that she nukes whatever target she is set loose on. Chill Resistance lowers the enemy with the highest Res on the enemy team, allowing her to one-shot a problematic unit earlier. Her Skill C can either be other supportive C skills like Wave Skills and Flier Guidance on a flier oriented team.

Overview

Secret Book (Artwork)
Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor's personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.
Base Set

Hot Spring Camilla is part of the rare Dagger flier club and is a free unit distributed in the Tempest Trials, making her easy to summon. Unfortunately, she was released shortly after Eir who has a superior stat allocation, is a Mythic Hero, and has a stronger base kit. She has decent Atk and serviceable Spd, though she is lacking in physical bulk. Her focus is mainly to debuff enemies and she can deal decent damage to help prime the enemy for her teammates to finish. The ease of access when compared to other flying dagger units makes Hot Spring Camilla a decent option and viable in the Arena and Aether Raids.

Ouch Pouch immediately grants a -2 to her special cooldown, making some specials like her base kit’s Glimmer immediately charged for her first attack. Upon attacking, the Ouch Pouch inflicts a -7 to Def/Res of enemies within two spaces of her target, giving her widespread debuffs. Attack Speed (skill) gives her a flat +2 to Atk/Spd which is ultimately best replaced with better skills. Hone Fliers is a highly coveted flier skill that gives her great synergy on Flier teams and also makes her a valuable unit to fodder for skills as she is the only unit who has Hone Fliers at 4-Star rarity.

Counters

Hot Spring Camilla’s colorless status leaves her vulnerable to Raventomes and the enhanced personal tomes with the same effect such as both Mage Robins, Lyon, and Sophia. Being a flier leaves her particularly to common bow units like Brave Lyn and Kinshi Hinoka who deal effecti damage. Her physical bulk is low so most units with high enough physical damage can simply kill her outright without a color advantage bonus to weaken a specific color.

Skill Inheritance

Reposition or Draw Back are her best options as she can position allies out of danger or move them closer if needed. Moonbow is a good for her as ignoring enemy defenses leads to higher damage since her Atk stat is decent at best. Since it is charged immediately at the start of Turn 1, it is a great alternative if she is not relying on buffs.

Fury is a solid option for Skill A as the flat stats pushes her Atk to 48 and Spd to 38, allowing her to double more enemies and cut off some speed characters from doubling her. Her high Spd makes her an excellent candidate for Windsweep or even Watersweep, Windsweep preventing physical weapons from countering her, especially the plethora of Distant Counter units while Watersweep allows her to engage against magic units without fearing retaliation, though her Res stat already is strong enough to minimize damage as they deal less damage than physical units. Her Res also makes her an excellent candidate for Ploy Skills if Hone Fliers is not to your liking.

Etymology

Camilla's name originates from the feminine variant of camillus, a term used to refer to youths serving as acolytes in the rituals of ancient Roman religion.

The name is also known in Roman mythology and in Virgil's Aeneid as the name of Princess Camilla of the Volsci, a virtuous Latin huntress who faced a Trojan remnant led by Aeneas and who is said to be the founder of ancient Rome.

Trivia

  • Camilla shares her Fates English voice actress, Paula Tiso, with Orochi. She shares her Heroes voice actress, Misty Lee, with Titania and Ursula.
  • Camilla ranked as the 2nd most popular female character in the official character popularity poll held on the game's official site.
    • She came 5th in the character popularity poll issued by Famitsu and was the most popular female character.
    • She placed 10th in the character popularity poll issued by Nintendo Dream.
  • Camilla's official and Heroes artworks depict her wielding a Nohrian Silver Axe.
  • According to the Making of Fire Emblem 25th Anniversary Book, Yusuke Kozaki directly mentioned that he deliberately designed Camilla to be the direct opposite of Hinoka, complete with longer hair and larger breasts. She turned out looking older than he originally planned, and in order to tone down her maturity, Kozaki reveals that he chose to design her portraits with what he describes as "childlike" traces.
    • Camilla was originally planned by Kibayashi to be a type of character whose voice radically changes when she loses control over her emotions (similar to Noire from Awakening). This is later changed in the final release of the game, where Camilla is instead inclined to smile coyly while speaking dangerously.
  • Camilla is the only royal sibling who cannot form a support with Azura. Though they do share a conversation chain in the DLC Nohrian Festival of Bonds.
  • Camilla is known to have a penchant for keeping items in her bra specifically; through her supports with Corrin, she is revealed to have stored a map of Nohr in this location.
    • She also reveals that this same map displays every location in Nohr, with specific places she has dreamt of going with Corrin carefully marked out.
    • This fact is revisited in her mother-daughter conversation with Kana in the Hoshidan Festival of Bonds, where she wants to revisit the marked locations with her daughter to make up for all the years Kana has spent alone in the Deeprealms. The conversation also goes into slight detail about these locations, with one of them defined by flowers with vivid blue and gold patterns and another boasting a cave literally composed of crystal.
  • Camilla shares her critical quote "Time to play" with her retainers Selena and Beruka.
  • Of all of the Nohiran Royal Siblings, she is the only one who is not mounted on a horse, instead choosing to ride on a Wyvern.
    • She is also the only one who is not blonde.
  • Camilla is the winner of the 2nd Voting Gauntlet (Wyverns vs. Pegasus Knights) in Fire Emblem Heroes.
  • Camilla currently has the highest number of character variations in Fire Emblem Heroes with a total of seven. Her seven variations are her Fates form, Spring, New Year, Summer, Adrift, Hostile Springs, and Brave.
