Canto is a skill that debuted in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War.
Overview
Canto is a recurring skill in the Fire Emblem franchise. It grants mounted units the ability to use up the rest of their movement after performing certain actions.
Repeated Movement is first introduced in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War as a hidden skill held by every mounted class. This skill allows a character to move, perform an action like attack an enemy and then use the remaining movement they may have after combat. The Knight Ring grants said skill to unmounted units, and can be obtained by keeping Lachesis' bodyguards alive at the end of Chapter 2.
Repeated Movement remains unchanged in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, and works rather well with the newly-introduced Rescue mechanic. Rescue Chains, which basically comprise of utilizing the Rescue command with mounted units, is essential to attaining high rankings in the game.
Canto shows up in an altered form in TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga. Instead of being a hidden class skill of all mounted units, Canto is a personal visible skill only usable by mounted classes. Not all mounted units learn canto by default, but a Re-Move Manual can be used to teach it to mounted units who do not learn the skill by default. Canto also functions differently and units cannot use use their leftover movement at the end of a turn if they are damaged after attacking an enemy unit.
In the GBA versions of the Fire Emblem franchise, Repeated Movement does not work after a mounted unit has made an attack or used a Staff.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance sees the return of the Repeated Movement skill, where mounted units are, like their older predecessors, able to use up any leftover movement tiles. However, the skill bearing the name 'Canto' is a skill only usable by Reyson, and grants him the ability to sing Galdr. For obvious reasons, Canto is impossible to unequip from Reyson.
In Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Canto becomes an actual skill, and is usable by all flying units, including Hawk tribe laguz and mounted units.
