Catharsis is a Staff that debuted in Fire Emblem Awakening.

Manifesting as the final step-up version of the Physic Staff, this staff allows its user to restore a large amount of HP to an ally unit from a distance. This staff may be obtained as a lost item in the Barracks, and can also be occasionally purchased from a merchant.

Etymology[]
The term Catharsis, derived from the Greek word Katharsis (meaning "purification" or "cleansing"), refers to the purification and purgation of emotions, specifically that of deep-seated sympathy/pity and fear/unease, through the medium of art. Originally used by Aristotle in Poetics, this term is used to refer to a technique employed by renowned playwrights of tragedies, where an appeal is made to the spectators' capacity to respond to the plight of the tragic protagonist(s) in question.
In the context of the game, the staff's name could be a possible allusion to the healer in question releasing his/her emotions of pity and unease for an injured ally unit, which later manifest into transient energy to empower the staff for healing purposes.
