Chalphy Castle

Chalphy (シアルフィ Siarufi) is one of the six duchies of the Kingdom of Grannvale in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War and Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. It was founded by Baldur, the Holy Knight, and ruled by Duke Byron during the present. Byron's son Sigurd takes his place when his duty as the leader of the Grünritter, Chalphy's knight squadron, necessitates his absence.

The Holy Sword Tyrfing is passed down though the Chalphy family. In the game, Byron is seen to wield the Tyrfing in its broken state, and both the playable characters Sigurd and Seliph wield it in the first and second generation respectively.

At the end of the second generation, if Sigurd and Seliph's relative and retainer Oifey makes it to the end, he will become the Duke of Chalphy while Seliph ascends to the throne of Grannvale.

Geography[]

Chalphy is located south of Dozel, east of Yngvi, and West of Edda. This makes the duchy one of the southernmost in Grannvale. Chalphy is a coastal territory, its southern border consisting of beaches and cliffs along the Miletos Channel. Across the channel from Chalphy lies the Miletos District. The royal family of Chalphy lives in Chalphy Castle, found in the western half of the territory; thus, this is the capital of Chalphy.

History[]

The Holy Knight Baldur, one of the Twelve Crusaders, founded Chalphy after the fall of the Loptrian Empire in year 649 of the Grann calendar. In the following years, Chalphy would maintain a close relationship with the Emperor of Grannvale and their family. In Grann 657, the current Duke, Byron, placed his son Sigurd in charge of the duchy and left with the Grünritter to aid Imperial Prince Kurth. Unfortunately, it is Byron's unparalleled loyalty to Kurth that led to his implication in the Prince's assassination in Grann 759, with Lombard of Verdane using him as a scapegoat for his own crime. In this same year, Seliph, the heir to Chalphy, is born in Agustria.

At this time, Sigurd had joined Grannvale's battle for control and is currently fighting in Agustria. Before this, he had responded to an invasion of Yngvi by Verdane. Mere months after the birth of his son, Sigurd and his knights are forced to flee to Silesse after House Chalphy is accused of murdering Kurth. In Grann 761, Byron escapes from prison and brings the Holy Sword Tyrfing to Sigurd, dying after his mission is completed. In response to increasing aggression from Grannvale against Silesse, Sigurd traveled to Belhalla in hopes of clearing his name. Though he was initially welcomed by Arvis, the man had set a trap for him, executing him for his crimes against the Empire.

In his absence, Sigurd had left Castle Chalphy under guard. Despite this, after the Battle of Belhalla, Chalphy fell under the control of Arvis, and later Julius. It is uncertain who governed Chalphy after Sigurd's death. In Grann 778, Seliph kills Arvis and liberates Chalphy. As Seliph goes on to become the Imperial King of Grannvale, House Chalphy is left to Oifey, a distant relative and devoted knight of the family, in Grann 778.
