—Citrinne in her support with Yunaka.
Citrinne is a character from Fire Emblem Engage. She is one of Alcryst's retainers.
Profile[]
Citrinne is a noblewoman of Brodia. Daughter to the Grand Duke and niece of Brodia's king, Morion. As such, she is also the cousin of Princes Diamant and Alcryst. Rather than through a tournament, as is custom for all royal Brodian retainers, Citrinne becomes a royal knight using her talent in magic and familial connections, becoming a retainer for Alcryst in order to protect him.
When news arrived at Brodia of the Divine Dragon Alear's impending arrival, King Morion sent Alcryst and his retainers to meet them. At the border, Elusia had already begun attacking Brodia, thus they were on high alert. Once Alear arrived, Citrinne, along with Lapis and Alcryst, mistook them for invaders. With the misunderstanding soon cleared, Citrinne, Alcryst, and Lapis join the Divine Dragon in fending off the invading Elusians.

Personality[]
Citrinne can initially appear to carry a haughty demeanor most would associate with nobility. In multiple Bond Conversations with the Emblems, she admits that her resting face often intimidates people. In reality, Citrinne is kindhearted and generous, especially to her treasured friends and allies. In part to her lineage connecting directly to the royal family, Citrinne has immense pride for Brodia and carries its values of protecting it at all costs, whether through political motioning or combat. As a result, she is close to the Brodian princes and in part due to their blood ties, Citrinne decided to become a retainer. Like her fellow retainer Lapis, she constantly has to remind Alcryst to let her perform her duty as his retainer.
As the daughter of the Grand Duke, Citrinne is extraordinarily wealthy and is generous in donating money to her friends and allies over the slightest need for it. Her generosity is often absurdly extravagant, casually purchasing (and funding) entire shops, offering entire mountains and plots of land to allies, and even bluntly handing over sacks of gems without ever asking for anything in return. In her Support with Alear, it's revealed that Citrinne prioritizes monetary value of gifts over sentimental value due to a bad experience with a former friend.
Despite becoming Alcryst's retainer out of a selfless desire to protect him, she frequently frets over having gotten her position through family connections and trains to exhaustion, longing to become stronger and earn her role as a royal soldier.

Citrinne is a quintessential Mage - she has very good growth rates in Magic and Resistance and average to poor growths everywhere else, with a low growth total overall. Her magical damage output will likely be the highest of the playable cast at this point in the game, as she has stronger bases and growths than Céline and Clanne and requires less investment than Anna. Defensively, she is frail, especially on the physical side - with a terrible base Defense of 3 and bad growths in Defense and HP, she suffers physical hits very poorly, and her low Speed means she is susceptible to many Follow-Up Attacks, often leading to her being one-round-KO'd if she is not protected. Her magic resistance is better off, but her low HP means she still cannot take on large groups of enemies on her own, necessitating some form of healing.
Her lopsided growth rates largely railroad her into a magic role, and she can promote as soon as she is recruited. Sage is her natural promotion path and continues to build on her high damage output, whereas Mage Knight is an excellent option to provide her with much better mobility that compensates for her squishiness. Her personal skill, Generosity, which allows allies to benefit from 50% of the healing she receives when she uses a healing item on herself such as a Vulnerary or Elixir, can give her some utility even on maps where she is otherwise slow to contribute as a heal bot of sorts.
Citrinne naturally benefits from Emblem Rings with strong magical effects such as the Ring of the Caring Princess for explosive damage, and to shore up her low Spd, utilize Echo to get a much needed second attack and Warp Ragnarok gives her mobility on a potent attack which she has no problems reaping the benefits of. The Ring of the Dawn Maiden also provides great utility coverage by improving her Staves skills and most importantly Silence Ward to prevent foes from crippling her best traits. Notably, Citrinne's best ring is not an Emblem Ring, but a Bond Ring. Olwen's Bond ring carries Dire Thunder which makes a Thunder tome have a brave attack. Compared to other potential users of the ring, Citrinne's low Speed makes her the best choice since she will likely not have the Speed to secure follow-ups naturally. As a result, she becomes a potent spell sniper who can attack safely at range without fear of retaliation.
Overall, Citrinne fits the mold of the stereotypical magic nuke and is certainly a powerful step-up from preceding magic users. Unfortunately, she is in a highly competitive role and has four chapters before two more powerful magic users, Ivy and Pandreo, become available and has to compete with Anna who, while requiring a Second Seal to become a Mage, has even more explosive damage than she has. Her affinity to a Bond Ring compared to an Emblem Ring also makes her a great filler unit so other units can reap the benefits of the rings while still making her potent on her own.

Base Kit[]
Citrinne does not stray from her Engage states as she is a Green Tome Infantry Hero with an impressive base 46 Atk to burst down foes in a single hit and a magical bulk score of 82, making her extremely resilient to fellow mage Heroes. Her downside is a middling low Spd of 27, preventing her from launching Follow-Up Attacks against most units and will likely suffer getting Follow-Uped when attack and is compounded by her low 22 Def. Nonetheless, she has a wealth of tools at her disposal to make great use of her powerful assets, making her a strong option for immediate use.
Tome of Luxuries innately carries a Special charge acceleration, needing one less attack to charge her Special and on Turn 1, she immediately gains two Special charges. If she has at least 25% HP at the start of her turn, she gains a special status where she is guaranteed a Follow-Up if she initiates. If she has 25% at the start of her turn, after start-of-turn effects have been activated, Citrinne takes all Bonuses she has and grants them to all allies within two spaces of her for that turn, helping to distribute her Tome's effect and many other useful ones so long as she can be granted them. This makes Citrinne an excellent distributor of Start-of-Turn skills and can give powerful skills to allies that are otherwise difficult to spread. It does not affect skills that increase movement like Armor March or Pathfinder. Finally, if she starts with 25% HP during combat, she gains +5 to her four core stats and adds 15% of her Res as bonus damage, giving meaningful damage even if foe can somehow resist her regular attack damage.
Iceberg is a natural fit for her high Res to add even more true damage based off her Res. Special Spiral at its fourth tier grants +5 damage when her Special activates, neutralizes non-special skills that reduce damage by percentages, and grants her two immediate Special charges after combat should she activate her Special before or during combat. Atk/Res Oath 4 grants her +6 Atk/Res if she is within 2 spaces of an ally at the start of her turn. She can also move to a viable space that is adjacent to an ally within two spaces of her. Finally, if she is within two spaces of an ally during combat, she gains +3 Atk/Res additionally. This is especially great for her as she can spread these buffs to her allies via her Tome.
Counters[]
Citrinne's naturally low Def and no damage mitigation within her base kit makes her vulnerable to any attack from most physical units, especially melee ranged units whom she has no ability to counter. Citrinne can be very tricky to properly counter since she is reliant on copying and distributing any sort of start-of-turn ally Bonuses, meaning that she can adopt very powerful effects and further gift them to others. Citrinne is likewise very vulnerable and loses a vast majority of her power and distribution capabilities if she strays too far from her allies. She should maintain no more than a two tile distance from at least one ally in order to keep her going.
Skill Inheritance[]
Citrinne is built to immediately start tanking as a mage bait, so giving her Reposition or Draw Back to keep her between an ally that might not be able to take a ranged magic attack as well as she can. She is an excellent recipient of Mirror Stance on a budget to improve her two strongest stats, though it only activates when she counters.
Overall, her strongest premium skill is Atk/Res Finish since it naturally activates so long as she is within three spaces of an ally, one more than her base kit requires, boosts her two strongest skills and can be active during both phases, deals 5 more true damage when she activates her special, and heals 7 HP after combat if she survived, giving her self sustaining power.
