“To protect Brodia, I can and will act with a heart of cold steel. No mercy.”
—Citrinne in her support with Yunaka.

Citrinne is a character from Fire Emblem Engage.

Profile[]

Citrinne is a noblewoman of Brodia. Daughter to the Grand Duke and the niece to Brodia's king, Morion. As such, she is also the cousin to Prince Diamant and Prince Alcryst. Rather than through a tournament, as is custom for all royal Brodian retainers, Citrinne becomes a royal knight using her talent in magic and familial connections, becoming a retainer for Alcryst in order to protect him.

When news arrived at Brodia of the Divine Dragon Alear's impending arrival, King Morion sent Alcryst and his retainers to meet them. At the border, Elusia had already begun attacking Brodia, thus they were on high alert. Once Alear arrived, Citrinne, along with Lapis and Alcryst, mistook them for invaders. With the misunderstanding soon cleared, Citrinne, Alcryst, and Lapis join the Divine Dragon in fending off the invading Elusians.

Fell Xenologue[]

"Just a minute! The following section contains spoilers. Viewing it will cost a lot. Are you prepared to pay for it?"
Xenologue Citrinne remains largely the same as her main counterpart, being from a noble Brodian family and was Alcryst's retainer. She died some time prior to the events of the Fell Xenologue and Alcryst notes that her house fell shortly afterward.
"End of spoilers. It's a pleasure doing business with you!"

Personality[]

Citrinne can appear to carry a haughty personality most would associate with nobility. In multiple Bond Conversations with the Emblems, she admits that her resting face often intimidates people. In reality, Citrinne is a kindhearted, generous noblewoman, especially to her treasured friends and allies. In part to her lineage directly to the royal family, Citrinne has immense pride for Brodia and carries its values of protecting it at all costs, whether through political motioning or combat. As a result, she is close to the Brodian princes and in part to their blood ties, Citrinne decided to become a retainer. Like her fellow retainer Lapis, she constantly has to remind Alcryst to let her perform her duty as his retainer.

As the daughter of the Grand Duke, Citrinne is extraordinarily wealthy and is generous in donating money to her friends and allies over the slightest need for it. Her generosity is often absurdly extravagant, casually purchasing (and funding) entire shops, offering entire mountains and plots of land to allies, and even bluntly handing over sacks of gems without ever asking for anything in return.

Despite becoming Alcryst's retainer out of a selfless desire to protect him, she frequently frets over having gotten her position through family connections and trains herself ragged, longing to become stronger and earn her role as a royal soldier.

Citrinne is a quintessential mage character - she has very good growth rates in her magic and resistance stats and average to poor growths everywhere else, with a low growth total overall. Her magical damage output will likely be the highest of the playable cast at this point in the game, as she has stronger bases and growths than Céline and Clanne and requires less investment than Anna. Defensively, she is frail, especially on the physical side - with a terrible base defense of 3 and bad growths in defense and HP, she suffers physical hits very poorly, and her low speed means she is susceptible to many Follow-Up Attacks, often leading to her being one-round-KO'd if she is not protected. Her magic resistance is better off, but her low HP means she still cannot take on large groups of enemies on her own, necessitating some form of healing.

Her lopsided growth rates largely railroad her into a magic role, and she can promote as soon as she is recruited. Sage is her natural promotion path and continues to build on her high damage output, whereas Mage Knight is an excellent option to provide her with much better mobility that compensates for her squishiness. Her personal skill, Genorosity, which allows allies to benefit from 50% of the healing she receives when she uses a healing item on herself such as a Vulnerary or Elixir, can give her some utility even on maps where she is otherwise slow to contribute.

Arguably, Citrinne's strongest ring is not an Emblem Ring - instead, it is the S-rank Olwen Bond Ring, which grants the Dire Thunder skill. This effectively gives her Thunder tomes an inherent Brave effect, turning them into a strong 3-range nuke. She is one of the strongest beneficiaries of such a ring due to her strong magic stat and low speed, and offsets her low survivability. If this ring is not available, she naturally benefits the most from Ring of the Caring Princess, improving her damage, hit rates and avoid while also giving her pseudo-mobility in the form of Warp Ragnarok. Ring of the Dawn Maiden is also an option to give her access to staffs and improve her supportive capabilities.

Overall, although Citrinne has strong magic performance, her lack of flexibility and bulk makes her difficult to use for any other role. If players have no need for a strong magical nuke character, she will not generally see-play long-term, but if that niche is valuable, she can be a strong performer for much of the early and mid-game and even late-game with enough work.
