“Perhaps our bond as partners in destiny is finally coming to fruition”
—Arval

Cycles of Nostalgia is a paralogue chapter for Arval in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. It is available on all story routes after the last battle against Byleth and Jeralt (Chapter 11 for Scarlet Blaze and Golden Wildfire, and Chapter 13 for Azure Gleam) and not recruiting them.

Story[]

The paralogue opens with Shez arriving in the void where Arval typically pulls them into for face-to-face discussion. However, when Arval appears, they inform Shez that this time, it was they that had pulled Arval in, and not the other way around. Because Arval was not the initiator, they do not have the ability to let Shez leave. At a loss for what to do, and lacking any other options in the moment, Shez decides to take a nap, when Arval warns that sleeping in that realm leads to some peculiar dreams.

Upon falling asleep, Shez dreams of an event that took place in the distant past, before the defeat of Nemesis. With the imperial forces having forced Nemesis to retreat, Epimenides, a mysterious figure resembling Arval, steps in personally to provide aid by fending off the Empire. In the process, they drive back Cethleann, Cichol, and Seiros.

With the defeat of Seiros, Shez awakens and asks Arval if they were the person the dream was seemingly about, to which Arval says they are not, but whoever the person is is closely related in some manner. Together, Shez and Arval speculate that this mysterious person may hold the secret to both Arval's past and the source of Shez's power. With their speculation set aside, Shez still has no idea how to leave the strange realm and considers going back to sleep.

Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor's personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.

Be sure to train Arval a lot before this paralogue. Your first goal is to take out Cethleann. When you approach her Cichol shows up and you have to take out both of them. After they're taken out, the path to Seiros will open.

Items[]

  • Fódlan Liberation Army (battalion; S-rank reward)
  • Spirit Dust (first-time clear reward)

Trivia[]

  • This is the only chapter where Arval (or any of the Renown-locked units) is playable when playing it for the first time, as well as the only paralogue where Shez is not playable by default.
  • There is a note of irony that should be addressed about this Paralogue battle, in that this battle requires Byleth and Jeralt be killed in their recruitment chapters to be unlocked, but Arval, the required unit, cannot be purchased from the Renown shop at Base Camp unless the player has recruited Byleth at least once.
