The Devil Axe is a universally very powerful Axe that have appeared in many Fire Emblem games. It is usually very inaccurate, and always a gamble to use. In most games, whenever a Devil Axe strikes a foe successfully, there is a [31-Luck]% chance that whatever damage would be inflicted on that foe is instead inflicted on the wielder (in Thracia 776, the backfire chance is [21-Luck]%; in Fūin no Tsurugi, the backfire chance is [21-Level]%). This effect can also trigger when using this axe against cracked walls or other destructible scenery, like snags. The chance to inflict self-damage is independent of critical hit chance, so it is possible that a critical hit can backfire on the user, inflicting triple damage to him or her.
