Profile[]
Early life[]
Born to a lady-in-waiting to Imperial nobles from the Adrestian Empire, Dorothea and her mother were kicked out of the household. Her mother died of illness when she was young, and she lived as a street urchin for some time. She was discovered as a songstress by the Mittelfrank Opera Company in Enbarr in 1171, eventually becoming known as the "Mystical Songstress" three years later. In the Japanese supports, it is revealed that Manuela is the one who discovered Dorothea and recruited her to the opera. In her conversation with Hanneman, Dorothea reveals that she met a noble she suspected was her father, based on his testimony that he "threw away" a Crest-less child and the child's maid mother, once she had become a singer. He not only failed to recognize her as his daughter, but tried to flirt with her, much to her disgust.
Academy Phase[]
Dorothea took leave of the opera house to enroll at the Officers Academy in 1180, using the connections she gained in order to do so, and joining the Black Eagles.
"Just a minute! The following section contains spoilers. Viewing it will cost a lot. Are you prepared to pay for it?"
|
After graduating, if the Black Eagles route is chosen, Dorothea becomes an informal collaborator of the Imperial army.
War Phase[]
"Just a minute! The following section contains spoilers. Viewing it will cost a lot. Are you prepared to pay for it?"
|
Should Dorothea be recruited but defeated during the Academy Phase on Classic Mode, she will flee to a hidden location with the Mittelfrank Opera Company. She is unable to make it to the promise reunion five years later and her fate is left unknown.
Crimson Flower[]
If the Black Eagles route is chosen, in Imperial Year 1185, Dorothea is assigned to the Black Eagle Strike Force at Garreg Mach.
Silver Snow[]
If the Church route is chosen, Dorothea and the other students will meet Byleth and Seteth on the city nearby the Church and help them defeat the bandits who were stealing. After that, she joins the Resistance Army.
Verdant Wind[]
If Dorothea is recruited into the Golden Deer, in 1181 she returns to Enbarr and helps with the dispersal of the opera house. Some time after, she leaves the Empire and roams Fódlan helping people before arriving back at Garreg Mach in 1185. When the Alliance captures Enbarr, she is disgusted by how the Imperial nobility tried to cozy up to the Alliance and Church forces to sue for peace, but she tells Byleth of being moved to tears when Count Bergliez – Caspar's father – sacrificed himself so that his soldiers could surrender peacefully.
If Dorothea is not recruited, she may be killed during the siege of Enbarr.
Personality[]
A natural performer, Dorothea enjoys all forms of performing arts from acting to music, but has a particular affinity for singing as she was once a songstress. She is flirtatious, and has a habit of flirting with people out of belief that she needs to find someone to provide her a comfortable life, before her beauty and voice fade away and cause others to lose interest in her. She thinks this way because she is terrified at the prospect of returning to live in the streets.
Despite being the only person of common heritage among the Black Eagles, she tries to meet everyone as equals. However, she holds resentment towards those of nobility because of the classist treatment she received from nobles during her childhood and throughout, on occasion remarking how they only seemed to care about her after she became famous. Objectification on stage by the rich, added with her poor childhood, resulted in her developing self-esteem issues on par with her outgoing personality. Nonetheless, she is readily confident in her ability to strike back against men who make attempts on her life and her friends, as stated in a support with Bernadetta. All but similarly to Mercedes, she openly and immediately expresses her dislike of Lorenz in their very first support conversation due to his elitist views. While she never ascribes such attitudes to all nobility, she finds it difficult not to, leading to cases of suspicion and judgment even if said noble does not deserve such treatment, as seen in her supports with Ferdinand.
As a result of her commoner background, and her experiences as an orphan, Dorothea shows great concern for the common folk caught in the crossfire of wars and noble-led conflict, particularly orphaned children. During the Academy phase she expresses this following particular missions, and it is shown to grow more pronounced during the War phase.
Manuela is her idol, as she was Dorothea's senior in the Mittelfrank Opera Company, and seeing her again is part of the reason she enrolls in the Officer's Academy to begin with. She often refers to her fellow classmates with diminutive versions of their names (i.e. Edie, Ferdie, Hubie, Yurikins, etc.) and will occasionally embarrass her friends to tease them. She likes dressing glamorously, outfitting herself with accessories and decorative ornaments. She also adores small animals. She dislikes arrogant nobles. According to Petra, Dorothea's classmates find her cooking to be "horrendous," although she has neither a weakness nor strength in cooking. If Byleth has Dorothea help in food preparation, she says that she thinks "it's all the same once it's in your stomach".

Recruitment[]
Dorothea will automatically be recruited if Byleth chooses to teach the Black Eagles house in Chapter 1. If Byleth chose to teach any other house, Dorothea can transfer to their class if they have high enough Charm and Authority. The player can decrease the required threshold if they have a support rank with her.
Support Rank | Charm | Authority |
---|---|---|
None | 25 | B |
C | 20 | C+ |
C+ | 15 | C |
B | 10 | D+ |
B+ | 5 | D |
A | Any | Any |
In Three Hopes, Dorothea will automatically join your house if Shez chooses to join the Black Eagles, and becomes playable in Chapter 3 of Scarlet Blaze. If the player sides with either Claude or Dimitri, the player will need to select the Persuade Dorothea strategy when given the opportunity. This becomes available during the main mission of Skirmish in the Fog for Azure Gleam and Darkness Attacks for Golden Wildflower.
Overall[]

Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor's personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.
|
Dorothea is the primary Mage of the Black Eagles, boasting decent Magic, Speed, and Dexterity for consistent (if unimpressive) damage output. Though she lacks the raw Magic growths of Annette, Lysithea or Constance and lacks a Crest, she is ultimately a middle ground Mage. She is not quite as potent in damage, but has better overall physical and magical bulk thanks to her better HP growths. This does not make her truly durable, however; she has a terribly low Defense growth rate, and her Resistance growth is slightly below-average for a mage, so she should be kept out of harm's way whenever possible. Her high Charm growth (though not the highest) makes her excellent for Gambits and for avoiding Gambits used by the enemy. Her personal skill, Songstress, heals allies by 10% of their maximum HP if they start their turn adjacent to her. This gives her excellent utility, especially in the early game when access to healing magic is strictly limited.
Her magic pool revolves around Thunder magic for her basic spells, including heavy-hitting ranged magic such as Thoron and Meteor. Dorothea's access to these very long-range spells allow her to easily provide Linked Attacks and Gambit Boosts from a safe distance in order to provide significant bonus to Hit%, Avoid%, and Gambit damage, simply by having the tomes equipped. This is helped by Dorothea having a large number of Support chains that can reach an A-rank, allowing for stronger bonuses. She also has access to Agnea's Arrow, the strongest Black magic spell available. Her Faith pool is rather shallow, but she does learn Physic, making her a great secondary or tertiary healer.
Dorothea is proficient in Swords and Reason with a weakness in Faith, Riding, and Flying. She can turn her Faith into a proficiency if she develops her Budding Talent, learning White Magic Avoid +20 once mastered. Magic oriented classes play to her strengths and she is a natural fit for the Monk line, primarily focused on the Mage line (Mage, Warlock, Gremory), but if given attention to her Faith, she can also take up Priest and Bishop as well to some effectiveness. Theoretically, she can also grow decently in the Myrmidon line because of her Sword proficiency, but her low Strength growths severely limit her potential in the class. She can invest some effort into swords to gain the Combat Art Hexblade, which allows her to deal magic damage with her sword. At Sword Rank C, she may wield the Levin Sword which gives her another 3-ranged attack when forged, although this is redundant with Thoron unless combined with certain skills (i.e. Sword Avoid +20, Axebreaker, etc). Unfortunately, her weaknesses in both Riding and Flying mean that any mounted classes are less viable for her, so classing her to Dark Knight or Holy Knight is very difficult; this will leave her with a mobility issue later in the game as maps get larger, but thankfully Meteor and Physic will let her contribute even at extreme distances. This also makes Valkyrie and Dark Flier hard for her to acquire, and thus makes it tough for her to get Uncanny Blow and Transmute, respectively. A good alternative choice for her is Trickster, which takes advantage of her skills in Sword, Reason, and budding talent in Faith, and plays to her utility strengths rather than trying to make her better at damage output.
Dorothea is arguably the best candidate in the game for a Dancer, as her high Charm growth will likely win her the class when available. As she is a natural in Swords and Magic, her utility greatly increases in the class, being able to refresh an ally, attack with Reason, or heal with Faith, plus her Personal Skill helps alleviate the need to expend her castings of Heal on lightly injured allies. The growth rate penalties of Dancer also will not prove too problematic for her, as they affect her Strength, Defense and Resistance, none of which she excels at anyway (while the Resistance penalty might hurt a bit, the extra HP she'll get should compensate for it). Additionally, her high Charm will play into the unique Sword Dance Combat Art, giving it a little more punch. If Dorothea classes herself as a Dancer with Sword Avoid +20, Sword Prowess L5, and Duelist's Blow from the Trickster class, she can become extremely evasive when initiating attacks (a total +60 Avoid), though this combination can be done better by other characters such as Ferdinand, Yuri, etc., who also will likely have better offense than her.
Overall, Dorothea is a highly popular choice due to her versatility. Her solid distributions and growths makes her highly adaptive to player's desires in direction whether she becomes more offensive oriented or more supportive. Her high amount of Support Chains with other very powerful characters in conjunction with her access to Meteor makes her a near omnipresent ally for Linked Attacks and Gambit Boosts. Finally, she has one of the best supportive Personal Skills of the cast that is frequently useful at all stages of the game. With the ease of her recruitment in line with Byleth's natural talents and options, it is almost impossible miss recruiting her unless specifically choosing not to. As such, Dorothea is a unit well worth picking up for a unit with a lot to offer.

Base Set[]
Dorothea is a Blue Tome Infantry Dancer who does not have a lot of flash since she is rivaled by very potent preexisting dancers such as Peony who is a free Mythic Hero for all players. Dorothea does have the advantage of being the sole Blue Tome Infantry Dancer in the regular summoning pool and is a low rarity summon, making it extremely easy to acquire extra copies of her, and an excellent merged unit as a result. She has an excellent 40 Atk to hit hard and most notably an exceptionally potent 85 magical bulk score due to her 45 Resistance. She has a middling 36 Spd compared to her various dancing rivals, but is far from slow enough to receive follow-up attacks from the vast majority of Heroes. She does however have a critically low 17 Def, giving her a physical bulk score of a mere 57. Dorothea is nothing special compared to her fellow Dancer units but the sheer power of the Dancer role makes her an immediate benefit for the player's forces.
Blárvulture inflicts an Atk/Res penalty onto her foe if she is in combat while not adjacent to an ally. The penalty is a minimum of 5 plus the total penalty on each of those stats individually onto the same sat. While not exceptionally powerful nor does it make Dorothea into an offensive powerhouse, it does allow her to be a pinch magic check due to her sheer magical bulk.
Spd Cantrip inflicts a Spd-7 penalty on the nearest foes within four spaces if she Dances an ally, inflicting a useful debuff, though one that does not synergize with her innate tome. Inf. Null Follow grants【Null Follow-Up】 onto infantry allies within two spaces of her at the start of combat.
Counters[]
Dorothea's critically low Def stat means that any physical based unit will obliterate her if they engage on her. Dorothea also has such low Defense that she will always get【Isolation】from Mila if facing her and unless merged, is likely to be hit by Bridal Fjorm as well.
Skill Inheritance[]
Dorothea can fill her empty Special with Iceberg as her astounding Res gives her an impressive 23 true damage whenever it activates and she can fuel her Res further with skills like Fortress Resistance for the raw boost to her Res or Distant Defense to become a defensive unit to soak a Tome attack for an ally if needed in a pinch. Resistance Ploy is also an excellent budget option since she can soften a vast majority of foes for herself or fellow magic allies.
Dorothea has extremely good synergy with Rearmed Plumeria's skills and can basically inherit the entirety of her kit without needing outside premium units. Arcane Euphoria does not need to rely on her foe's penalties and instead just needs her to be over 25% HP when she starts combat and benefits all four core stats, even though the different will not be as extreme in two like her base weapon. Most importantly, it shores up her speed, gives her a bit more raw damage, and mitigates damage. Still Water 4 bolsters her two strongest stats, Atk and Res, in exchange for a drop to her weakest, Def. Crystalline Water is even better for her, though that needs to come from someone else and either through Plumeria or directly onto Dorothea herself. Wings of Mercy 4 lets Dorothea teleport to an ally within three spaces of her if they have taken at least one damage and can move within two spaces of an ally that is under 60% HP, giving her great movement. Firestorm Dance is an excellent option to bolster her dances and if at fourth tier, gives【Canto (1)】and【Desperation】on top of the Atk/Spd Boost. Defense Resistance Ploy inflicts a massive Def/Res-7 on foes who have at least 5 less Res than Dorothea. With a Boon in Res, giving her and without factoring Summoner supports, merges, or Dragonflowers, her foe must have 44 Res to avoid this penalty and with max investment just through skills and weapon refines, Dorothea can reach a massive base 59 Res, leaving only foes with 54 Res able to avoid her debuff.

Base Set[]
Summer Dorothea is a rather standard Colorless Dagger Dancer. Her offense is solid with neutral 38 Atk and 36 Spd, though she exchanges this with a moderate 68 magical bulk and a very vulnerable 54 physical bulk. Summer Dorothea does have tons of options by being a dagger unit, meaning that she can be built to suit a specific task, but the virtue of being a Dance unit also means that she has one of the strongest utilities in the game, allowing her to pass her turn to her allies to perform tasks that she cannot do herself.
Hidden Thorns has a rather unique activation requirement as it only occurs during her first occurrence of battle during each player's turn. She gains +5 Atk/Res during combat and if she survives the battle, she also recovers 7 HP. Dorothea fares well against mages with this buff and it also makes a considerable inherit for other dagger units who carry high Res like Felicia, Flora, and Masquerade Lachesis. As a dagger, it also inflicts【Dagger 7】which causes foes within two spaces of her target to suffer a Def/Res-7 debuff through their next actions.
Summer Dorothea introduces a new type of Dancer B-Skill, the Cantrip, specifically Attack Cantrip, which inflicts -7 Atk on the nearest foe within 4 spaces of Summer Dorothea when she dances an ally. The debuff is useful in just about any situation, but getting the skill to target the right enemy may be a bit awkward to get right. Hone Atk 4 gives +7 Atk to allies adjacent to her at the start of her turn, giving her allies the largest visible Atk buff from the Hone Atk line.
Counters[]
Summer Dorothea's obvious low physical bulk and being colorless means that she is likely to fall to any physical unit who can get to her first. Even Dragons with their adaptive damage also spell an easy end for her if they get to her first. She can be baited out by most mages with Raventome effects like both Robins, Sophia, and Lyon. Lyon's Fallen form is particularly deadly too.
Skill Inheritance[]
Summer Dorothea can pick up a generic dancer build which entails Moonbow for its Def ignoring effect and Wings of Mercy to allow her to teleport to an injured ally. Fury for a flat stat debuff in exchange for some recoil, but her default dagger can actually heal off the recoil after the first battle she encounters each turn, giving it far less long lasting impacts.

Base Set[]
Joined by Lene from Genealogy of the Holy War, Plegian Dorothea is once again a Dancer, meaning that she carries Dance for refreshing allies. As a Red Tome Flier, she does have some competition with Plumeria and Soiree Ishtar, the virtue of being a Resonance Hero gives her a unique niche that the other two cannot replicate. On her own, she has a solid 38 Atk and 35 Spd which grants her a modest offensive presence on a map, but nothing too oppressive. Her magical bulk is decent at 63, but her 53 physical bulk leaves her very vulnerable in this category. Nonetheless, Plegian Dorothea has her role carved out nicely and due to her score boosting for Resonant Battles, she has an extremely important impact for players to get the most out of that mode in particular.
Plegian Dorothea's Resonance Skill, which applies only to Genealogy of the Holy War and Three Houses, automatically refreshes the ally with the highest HP within two spaces of her, essentially granting her the ability to refresh a unit twice. This refresh can also apply to other dancers from the two titles, meaning that she can (at the time of her release), refresh Lene, Silvia, and her Summer form. While it is a one time effect, careful application of it can bring new options to the table in terms of finishing off an assault or repositioning allies.
Fell Candelabra innately grants her +3 Atk, bringing the weapon's might to 17 and in turn her neutral Atk to 55. At the start of her turn, all of the enemies currently on the map are compared to each other on their four core stats. Each enemy that carries the highest total of each stat take a -6 debuff to that stat. While it does soften the strongest enemies of each stat on the field, as each of them fall, this can slowly weaken their teammates more and more until the final one remaining takes a massive -6 debuff to all four stats, meaning a 24 total stat drop on the final enemies.
Swift Impact grants Dorothea a +7 Spd and +10 Res boost when she initiates combat and negates a foe's follow-up attack. While there are very few units who carry an innate 47 Spd, this makes it safer to engage against units who carry skills like Vengeful Fighter. Firestorm Dance makes her dance more potent as her ally gains a visible +3 Atk/Spd buff when she dances them. Attack Speed Rein inflicts -4 Atk/Spd on foes within 2 spaces of her during combat, which can further hamper enemies as it stacks upon the Fell Candelabra penalty.
Counters[]
Plegian Dorothea's physical bulk is one again quite low, meaning that she will stand little chance against any physical unit who can get to her first. Bows essentially are an immediate death sentence since they innately carry an effective damage buff against fliers and an Iote's Shield will provide no real reprieve in this. Harsh Command and its plus version are actually a useful counter against her candelabra, especially when there are less units for her to target, inadvertently and possibly forcing all of these penalties onto one unit only for the skill to turn it into potentially a +24 stat increase. Otherwise, standard blue units carry the innate color advantage and can simply run through her through that boost.
Skill Inheritance[]
Plegian Dorothea's only empty skill slot is her Special skill, which can be easily filled with either Moonbow to ignore her foe's Res or Glimmer to convert any buffs she receives into added power. Skill B can be replaced with the standard Wings of Mercy giving her added mobility and techincally better range to use her resonance skill. Skill C can be outfitted with more direct supportive skills with skills like Ground Orders or various Flier team skills.

During both Azure Gleam and Golden Wildfire, Dorothea will be recruited as long as the player picks the Persuade Dorothea Strategy during the planning portions, otherwise she will be killed during the missions.
- In Azure Gleam, Dorothea can be recruited in the fifth chapter during the main mission, "The Battle of Magdred".
- In Golden Wildfire, Dorothea is the last recruitable unit in the route, where she can be recruited in the thirteenth chapter during the main mission, "The Pacification of Ordelia". If she is not recruited here, then she dies of enemy poison.

Once she gave up her position as a songstress, she settled down to a private life of peace and quiet. It is said that she was very happily married.
- Dorothea and Byleth (Crimson Flower)
- Almost immediately after the modest wedding between Byleth and Dorothea was over, the battle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. Dorothea chose not to take the field of battle with a weapon but rather to tend the household in her spouse's absence and provide emotional support to his/her effort to bring peace to Fódlan. Many years after the war had ended, Dorothea's diary was uncovered, revealing the full extent of the happy life the couple had shared. The love poems that they wrote to one another were published as a collection.
- Dorothea and Byleth (Azure Moon)
- After taking on the role of archbishop of the Church of Seiros, Byleth announced his/her marriage to Dorothea. The former songstress resolved to stay out of the public eye, keeping to herself and her family, but as the archbishop worked tirelessly to restore Fódlan and the church, she did privately offer advice from time to time. It is said that her experience growing up as a commoner provided a useful perspective. Many years later, her diary was uncovered, revealing the full extent of the happy life the couple shared. The love poems that they wrote to one another were published as a collection.
- Dorothea and Byleth (Verdant Wind/Silver Snow)
- After ascending to the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth announced his/her marriage to Dorothea. The former songstress resolved to stay out of the public eye, keeping to herself and her family, but as Byleth worked tirelessly to restore Fódlan, she did offer advice from time to time. It is said that her experience growing up as a commoner provided a useful perspective. Many years later, her diary was uncovered, revealing the full extent of the happy life the couple shared. The love poems that they wrote to one another were published as a collection.
- Dorothea and Edelgard
- As Edelgard's reign as the Adrestian emperor began, Enbarr was restored, and with it, a certain opera house. Soon the Mittelfrank Opera Company put together a war drama depicting the journey and sacrifice of the emperor and her companions, and the starring role went to none other than Dorothea. Edelgard initially forbade the company from staging it, but was eventually persuaded by Dorothea's passionate performance to rescind that decree. It is said that the emperor always set aside time to enjoy the opera thereafter.
- Dorothea and Hubert
- After the war, the Mittlefrank Opera Company made a resurgence, in no small part thanks to the patronage of Emperor Edelgard's confidant, Hubert. Dorothea made a comeback as a songstress in the troupe, which traveled all over Fódlan, putting a large share of its profits towards relief efforts. The opera company was warmly welcomed by the war-weary people as a source of solace, and became even more famous than before. It was not discovered until many years later that the troupe's tour had been a covert operation, coordinated by Hubert and Dorothea, to gather intelligence for the Empire.
- Dorothea and Ferdinand (Crimson Flower)
- After officially becoming the new Duke Aegir, Ferdinand set about reforming his territory. Thanks to the wisdom of his wife, Dorothea, Ferdinand's policies were of massive benefit to the common folk and brought about a swift recovery. In recognition of this achievement, he was called upon by Emperor Edelgard to introduce these reforms to the Empire at large as the new prime minister. Though the work kept him very busy, he always managed to find time for Dorothea. It is said that their children filled their loving household with beautiful music ever after.
- Dorothea and Ferdinand (Other routes)
- After officially becoming the new Duke Aegir, Ferdinand set about reforming his territory. Thanks to the wisdom of his wife, Dorothea, Ferdinand's policies were of massive benefit to the common folk and brought about a swift recovery. In recognition of this achievement, he was called upon to help to govern Fódlan at large. Though the work of reforming the entire nation kept him very busy, he always managed to find time for Dorothea. It is said that their children filled their loving household with beautiful music ever after.
- Dorothea and Linhardt
- After the war, Linhardt decided to inherit his title. He spent several years studying his territory, learning to manage its affairs, and when he was ready to become the new Count Hevring, he announced his marriage to Dorothea. Somehow, despite all this activity, Linhardt actually managed to keep up with his Crest studies. Though his results were dubious at times, his new wife helped him alter them so that they would be of use to people. Their relationship was unlike anything the nobility had ever witnessed. When faced with this accusation, Linhardt and Dorothea could only laugh and note that the past was of no significance to them.
- Dorothea and Caspar (Crimson Flower)
- In recognition of his achievements during the war, Caspar was given the title of Minister of Military Affairs in the new Adrestian Empire. Though his command developed a reputation for occasional recklessness, he proved an able leader, guiding his troops to overcome countless obstacles. In his personal life, he began to spend a great deal of time with Dorothea, who had returned to the Mittelfrank Opera Company after the war. When her efforts brought the opera house to the peak of its resurgence, it is said that Dorothea relinquished her position as songstress in order to retire with Caspar. They are rumored to have spent the rest of their lives together.
- Dorothea and Caspar (Other routes)
- After the war, Caspar set out alone on a journey of self-discovery. He traveled to every corner of Fódlan, and even ventured abroad now and again. Though his antics found him no end of exciting adventures, he was always drawn back to Dorothea, who had returned to the Mittelfrank Opera Company in Enbarr after the war. The two spent more and more time together over the years, and when Dorothea's efforts brought the opera house to the peak of its resurgence, she relinquished her position as songstress and disappeared from the stage. It is rumored that the pair spent the rest of their lives together.
- Dorothea and Petra
- Petra returned to her homeland of Brigid, and inherited the throne from her grandfather. As ruler, she declared independence from Fódlan, and renegotiated Brigid's diplomatic ties to that nation on more equal terms. At every step along the way, she was accompanied by Dorothea, who had left Fódlan behind to support her. Dorothea used the connections she had made in her time at the opera to her benefit, and even worked reluctantly with the Fódlan nobility for Petra's sake. The people of Brigid were skeptical of her at first, but warmed up to her over time. It is said that she became the person whom Petra loved the most.
- Dorothea and Felix (Azure Moon)
- After the war, Felix inherited the title of Duke Fraldarius from his late father, Rodrigue. He married Dorothea, and the two began a happy life together. After they had finished restoring Fraldarius territory, Felix traveled across Fódlan as the king's right hand. Dorothea traveled with him always, and even threw herself into battle alongside him every so often. Tales of their bravery endured for generations, thanks in no small part to the operas that Dorothea wrote and composed herself.
- Dorothea and Felix (Other routes)
- Even after the war's end, skirmishes continued to break out across Fódlan. Learning that there were still places where he could fight, Felix abandoned his noble title and chose to make a living with his sword. He traveled the land, and some years later found himself in Enbarr. There he encountered Dorothea, who had just resumed her career as a songstress in the opera. From that time on, no matter how far Felix traveled, he always found himself drawn back to the opera house. It is said that, when Dorothea saw his face in the crowd, she sang only for him.
- Dorothea and Sylvain
- After more than 10 proposals, Dorothea finally relented and agreed to marry Sylvain. Together they inherited Gautier territory. With the support of his wife's counsel, the new Margrave Gautier was able to improve relations with the Sreng people, and thereby convince the local nobles that Relics and Crests were no longer an absolute requirement for survival. Due to their efforts, they went down in history as an extraordinary lord and lady. It is said that what finally convinced Dorothea to marry Sylvain was his promise that they would grow old happily together, and that he was true to his word.
- Dorothea and Lorenz
- As the new head of House Gloucester, Lorenz first worked to restore his own territory, and then expanded his vision to include reforms for all Fódlan. At the height of his storied political career, he announced his marriage to Dorothea, who had returned to prominence with the Mittelfrank Opera Company. The elaborate wedding was the most talked-about social event of the season, and the fashions on display from the savvy noblemen and the stylish songstress set the trends with young people across Fódlan for a decade.
- Dorothea and Hanneman
- Though Fódlan had changed, Hanneman's goal remained unwavering to determine the workings of the Crests, and to do away with the inequality caused by them. To that end, his research resulted in magical tools which could be used even without the aid of Crests. This proved to be yet another worthwhile discovery by the Father of Crestology. Hanneman also became a father in a more literal sense, by raising many children with his wife, Dorothea. Their marriage was not publicly known, however, as the songstress elected to keep it secret for the sake of both their careers.
- Dorothea and Manuela
- The Mittelfrank Opera Company was on the brink of collapse until two of its star songstresses, Manuela and Dorothea, returned to the stage and brought the troupe new life and prominence. They toured all around Fódlan, sometimes even visiting troops on the front lines, soothing hearts with their beautiful songs wherever they want, and donating their profits to the relief and rebuilding effort. When the damage from the war had finally healed, the pair once again retreated from the stage, this time retiring to a private life together. It is said that their relationship was full of light and love.
- Dorothea and Yuri
- A new opera company was born of the postwar rebuilding period. This troupe, headed up by a former songstress, was comprised of hand-picked talent from all walks of life. Though it began humbly, over the years it grew to rival even the Mittelfrank Opera Company in its greatness. The most popular production in its repertoire was a tale of a disillusioned songstress making a comeback with the help of her ambitious lover. Through that story, the names of Yuri and Dorothea live on to this very day.

Etymology[]
Dorothea is a feminine form of the greek name Dorotheos, meaning "gift of god".
Arnault is a surname of Olde German and Anglo-Saxon origins comprised of the words Arn meaning eagle and Wald meaning ruler or power, giving a small connection to her house, the Black Eagles.
Trivia[]
- Dorothea shares her English VA, Allegra Clark, with Shamir, as well as Ethlyn (from Genealogy of the Holy War) and Karla (from The Blazing Blade) in their appearances in Heroes.
- Dorothea is one of the characters who can have S-Supports with both a male and a female Byleth. The others are: Edelgard, Linhardt, Mercedes, Gilbert (platonic), Alois (platonic), Rhea, Sothis, Jeritza and Yuri.
- Dorothea uses a red color palette for her classes.
- Though she learns the two basic Lightning black magic spells, Dorothea cannot learn Bolting and learns Meteor instead.
- If Dorothea is taken to the Opera House in the Enbarr battle map, she will worry about her former colleagues in the opera company and gain the Opera Co. Volunteers battalion.
- This battalion cannot be obtained in Crimson Flower, making Dorothea one of the few characters who cannot get her associated battalion in a certain route.
- As an enemy in the Assault on Enbarr, Dorothea has access to Excalibur, a spell outside of her playable spell pool.
- In Ferdinand and Dorothea's A-Support conversation, it is never said who was the person that introduced the latter to the opera in the international localization, but in the Japanese version it is said that it was Manuela.
- Dorothea's A-Support conversation with Yuri confirms in the English version that it was still Manuela who introduced her to the opera company.
- As noted by Polygon, Dorothea has consistently been the Most Deployed Unit according to the Online Stats feature.
- Dorothea is one of the few characters in Three Houses and Three Hopes to be regularly flirtatious with and display attraction towards both men and women.
- Dorothea has three same-sex romantic endings (with Manuela, Petra and female Byleth), the most out of any character but Byleth themselves.
- She shares this distinction with Shamir: interestingly enough, both characters are voiced by a queer voice actress, Allegra Clark.
- Dorothea currently holds the record for the Hero with the most seasonal variations introduced before her base form is introduced into the game, currently sitting at 3 variations.
- In a survey conducted by Famitsu Magazine, Dorothea placed 12th for females and 21st overall with 418 votes in the character popularity poll for Three Houses. She also placed 8th among S-Supports chosen in the first playthrough with 121 votes.
- In the fifth survey conducted by Nintendo DREAM Magazine, Dorothea placed 18th in the character popularity poll for Three Houses. The male-female vote ratio was 1:4. She ranked 18th among those who completed the game with 6.1% of the vote.
- In the fourth Heroes: Choose Your Legends popularity poll, Dorothea ranked 7th place for females with 15,212 votes.
