Dragon Signs are a group of items that debut in Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
Overview[]
Three Houses[]
The Dragon Signs are a type of item only available in New Game+ save files. Depending on what route that was last completed, the player will automatically gain several Dragon Signs put in the convoy during the Prologue. Otherwise, the rest of the Dragon Signs can be bought for 1000 Renown from Chapter 1 onwards.
If a unit has a Dragon Sign in their inventory, then said unit will gain the effects of that Dragon Sign's Crest, as if the unit naturally has said Crest. If the unit already has a Crest, both their natural Crest and the Dragon Sign can activate. If the a unit's innate Crest resonates with a Dragon Sign, it will make the Crest proc more often.
Unlike Equipment, the Dragon Sign does not need to actually be equipped and will passively work so long as it is in the unit's inventory.
Having a Dragon Sign item also allows Crest-less units to use any of the Heroes' Relics without taking damage, and a compatible Dragon Sign can allow its holder to use that Relic's innate Combat Art, though at the cost of -5 Durability. They also gives an improved healing rate from compatible Sacred Weapons during the start of the Player's Turn, from 11.85% of a unit's total health to 15%.
Three Hopes[]
The Dragon Signs are once more a type of item only available after completing any of the three routes or in New Game+ save files, where they are available for purchase from the Renown Shop. Due to the more permanent inventory system in this game, only a select number of Dragon Signs are available for purchase, with the selection being based on what was the previous route the player has cleared. To obtain all the Dragon Signs, players have to play the other two routes.
If a unit has a Dragon Sign in their Accessory slot, then said unit will gain the effects of that Dragon Sign's Crest, as if the unit naturally has said Crest. If the unit already has a Crest, both their natural Crest and the Dragon Sign can activate and will make the native Crest proc more often.
Having a Dragon Sign item also allows Crest-less units to use any of the Heroes' Relics without taking damage, and a compatible Dragon Sign can allow its holder to use that Relic's innate Combat Art albeit at a +4 increase to the durability cost, as well as increased continuous health regeneration from Sacred Weapons. As they are an accessory, however, one cannot equip a Dragon Sign and a non-weapon Relic or Sacred Weapon at the same time.

Item Locations[]
Fire Emblem: Three Houses[]
Depending on the last route that was completed, the player will automatically obtain the following Dragon Signs from the Prologue, being put in their convoy. If not, then the remaining Dragon Signs can be bought for 1000 Renown from Byleth's journal.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes[]
Depending on the last route that was completed, the player will have the option to purchase a select amount of Dragon Signs from the Renown Shop in Shez's Journal, either upon booting up the cleared save data or starting a New Game+ file.
Once a New Game+ file is started, one cannot access the Journal until re-unlocking the Base Camp at Chapter 4 of any route.
Notes[]
- Dragon Sign Crests are considered much weaker than naturally occurring Crests:
- The chance of a Dragon Sign Crest activating is roughly half as often as a Minor Crest. In Three Houses, Crests have an activation rate of either:
- 20/10/5% (Ernest, Macuil, Dominic, Noa, Blaiddyd, Gloucester, Aubin, Indech, Timotheos, Lamine)
- 40/20/10% (Fraldarius, Beast/Maurice)
- 50/30/15% (Cethleann, Goneril, Cichol, Riegan, Chevalier)
- or 70/40/20% (Seiros, Daphnel, Gautier, Charon).
- In Three Hopes, while certain Minor Crests and Dragon Signs have similar proc rates, Minor Crests can still have their effects and proc rates upgraded via the Tactics Academy at Base Camp starting with Chapter 6 of any route, whereas the effects/proc rates for Dragon Signs are not, and as such, Crests from Dragon Sign procs do not have any levels shown in the banner. Unlike in Three Houses, Crest proc rates in Three Hopes never dip into the single digits, with the lowest being a flat 10%.
- 20-40/10-20/10% (Dominic, Noa, Goneril, Cichol, Indech, Timotheos, Lamine)
- 40/20/10% (Macuil, Gloucester, Blaiddyd)
- 50/25/10% (Seiros, Cethleann, Daphnel, Gautier, Charon)
- 30-50/15-25/10% (Riegan, Chevalier)
- 20-30/10-20/10% (Ernest, Aubin)
- 20/10% (Fraldarius, Maurice)
- Utilizing a Heroes Relic's associated Combat Art costs more durability compared to using the same Art with a natural Crest bearer (-3/-4/-5).
- In Three Hopes, due to Combat Arts having varying durability costs depending on the power of said Combat Art, it instead goes by bonus durability costs (-0/-2/-4)
- The chance of a Dragon Sign Crest activating is roughly half as often as a Minor Crest. In Three Houses, Crests have an activation rate of either:
- In Three Houses, while only one Crest can be active at a time in one engagement, multiple Dragon Signs still allow the user to wield multiple Heroes' Relics to their full potential, though inventory management woes will follow. As Dragon Signs are Accessories in Three Hopes, this is not possible.
- The Crests bear similarity with the Major Arcana, whether it's in their appearance, their description, or the characteristics of one of their crest bearers, starting with Ernest as The Fool, followed by Macuil as The Magician, and continues on until the Crest of Flames as The World. This can be seen in-game by the order of placements the Dragon Signs are in when purchasing them, as well as the order that the Crests show up during the loading screen in Three Hopes.
- In both the baseline versions of Three Houses and Three Hopes, the Thorn Dragon Sign is the only way for a playable unit to use the Crest of Ernest.
