—Edelgard speaking with Byleth
Edelgard is one of the protagonists and a playable character in the upcoming Fire Emblem: Three Houses. She is the princess and heir of the Adrestian Empire and a student at the Officer's Academy in Garreg Mach Monastery. She's also the house leader of the Black Eagles. She possesses a minor Crest of Seiros. Edelgard's birthday is June 22.
Edelgard has a dignified, high-minded, solemn air about her, and she coolly evaluates her surroundings and those around her before she acts.
Edelgard is illustrated in the trading card game Fire Emblem Cipher with the following cards:
Edelgarde is a female German name meaning Noble Protector.
Hræsvelgr is a figure from Norse mythology who is a giant that takes the form of an eagle.
- In the trailers, she appears to wield both Swords and Axes as her primary weapons. She is also represented possessing the capability to use magic as a separate option from attack.
- Her in-game English voice actress is Tara Platt, who also voiced Miriel and Flavia from Fire Emblem Awakening.
- Cristina Vee (also known as Cristina Valenzuela) was originally cast as Edelgard's English voice actress. Part of her performance can be heard in the E3 2018 trailer for Fire Emblem: Three Houses. At some point after, however, the role was recast, though no official word on the reasoning why has been given. Vee had previously voiced Tatiana in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, as well as the Fire Emblem Heroes appearances of Lachesis (from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War) and Athena (from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem).
- Edelgard shares her Japanese voice actress, Ai Kakuma, with Fates' Flora.
