—Etie introducing herself to Alear in Chapter 3
Etie is a character from Fire Emblem Engage. She is one of Alfred's retainers.
Profile[]
Etie is a knight from the Kingdom of Firene and Alfred's retainer. Hailing from a Firene village known for its flowers, she is the second daughter of a marquis, and a childhood friend of Céline. Despite her expectation to become Céline's retainer because of this, Queen Ève chose her as Alfred's second retainer instead, in the hopes that she might one day marry him.
When Elusia threatened to invade Firene in order to steal the Emblem Ring they were safeguarding, Etie accompanied Alfred alongside Boucheron to request aid from the Divine Dragon Lumera. Upon arrival in Lythos, they find Lythos Castle already under siege by Elusia and quickly rush to their aid. In the castle, they discover that the other Divine Dragon, Alear, was already awake and fighting off the Elusian forces. Etie, Alfred, and Boucheron immediately allies with Alear to drive the invaders away. In the aftermath of the battle, Alfred requests Lythos' aid to protect Firene, which they accept. Etie joins in on Alfred's decision to help Alear recover the Emblem Rings and stop the Fell Dragon Sombron.
Personality[]
Etie is very forward-thinking and active, but friendly. She is obsessed with strength training as she has been known to work out even during mundane tasks, such as weighted tea cups when drinking tea with her childhood friend Céline. Even one of her cooking voice lines indicates that she is disappointed that the kitchen utensils are not weighted. She has something of a one-sided rivalry in strength training with her fellow retainer, Boucheron, finding envy in the fact that he is naturally muscular without much effort.
Etie earnestly enjoys training with Alfred as he is one of the few individuals who share her passion for physique honing. Through their supports, she learns that part of the reason why she was assigned to be Alfred's retainer rather than Céline was a ploy by Queen Ève to have Etie marry him when he becomes king. While amused by the reveal, she is not entirely against the thought, though she finds the image of her as queen weird.

Etie is the game's first Bow unit, and as such she is invaluable for dealing with the many Fliers present in her opening chapter and the next. She boasts good base Strength and also has one of the highest Strength growth rates in the game, allowing her to reliably cripple enemies she is effective against and contribute solid chip damage against everything else. Her growth rates outside of Strength however are middling to poor at best, with low Build especially that hampers her ability to perform Follow-Ups even with her starting Iron Bow and leaves her both frequently unable to defeat healthy enemies without assistance and liable to being one-round-KO'd by faster opponents who can catch her. Etie requires significant support or good level-ups to be able to scale beyond the mid portions of the game.
From her starting class, Etie's default promotion path is Sniper. Sniper mainly helps to patch her shaky Dexterity growth and improve her accuracy, but otherwise does not resolve many of her weaknesses. If she can be granted weapon proficiency from an Emblem Ring, she can also promote to a Bow Knight, which grants a more balanced assortment of bonuses as well as improving her mobility and giving her access to a second weapon type. Warrior is a third option if a Second Seal is used which transforms her into a Backup unit, allowing her to participate in Chain Attacks from a distance with a bow equipped, and improves her Strength and Speed growth while also helping alleviate her low bulk, albeit at the cost of Dexterity as compared to native bow classes.
Etie's Personal Skill, Energized, grants her +2 Strength for 1 turn whenever she recovers HP using an item such as a Vulnerary. This skill has little utility as an archer as she cannot counterattack against most foes with a bow and she generally does not have the bulk to be taking attacks regularly, though it has some more use if she reclassed to a tankier class later on.
For Emblem Rings, Etie benefits immensely from the litany of speed bonuses provided by the Ring of the Lady of the Plains, allowing her to fully utilize her good strength by performing double-attacks herself and the Covert bonus from Astra Storm. She also benefits greatly from the S-rank Claude Bond Ring, which gives her +1 range to all bow attacks and synergizes excellently with the ability to chain attack from Warrior, if she is reclassed to one. Beyond these, she receives only minor benefits from Emblems, preferring rings that can help to boost her Speed or Build such as the Ring of the Holy Knight.
As the early game archer with poor base stats and growths, Etie has effectively only one niche - killing fliers. In this role, she has acceptable performance due to her high Strength letting her scale reasonably well. Etie excels during the early game due to her unique weapon, though her rival Alcryst arrives four chapters later. Etie then becomes a reliable unit in her role, though she will likely not outshine Alcryst in her role on a pure statistical level.
