Non-Canon Appearances[]
Super Smash Bros.[]
Failnaught appears as one of the many weapons wielded by Byleth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Failnaught is used as Byleth's neutral aerial, as well as their neutral special. With Byleth's neutral special, they can charge up an arrow up to two tiers. The first tier can be canceled by shielding or jumping, and can be turned around to fire in the opposite direction. The second tier forces Byleth to be rooted to the spot in exchange for great power and is capable of breaking near-full shields.
If Kirby were to use Inhale on Byleth, he is also able to wield Failnaught.
Etymology[]
Failnaught is named after Fail-not, the bow wielded by Tristan, a Knight of the Round Table in Arthurian legend.
Trivia[]
- Claude's initial artwork from Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes mistakenly has the Failnaught depicting the Crest of Gautier. This was later fixed.
- In Engage, Byleth and Claude's Failnaughts are palette swaps of each other, with Byleth's being mainly gold and Claude's being mainly magenta.
- However, the bowstring for both versions remains purple.
