Grima Awakening Chapter 23 Art

The Fell Dragon Grima

Fell Dragon is a recurring race of dragon that first appeared in Fire Emblem Awakening.

Overview[]

Fell Dragons are essentially inverse of Divine Dragons, being considered dragons of great evil. The origins of the Fell Dragons greatly differ between games. What is common in all versions of their existences is that all Fell Dragons have the ability to resurrect corpses into mindless, feral beasts to fight on their behalf.

Fire Emblem Awakening[]

The first Fell Dragon to appear in the series, Grima, is the primary antagonist of Fire Emblem Awakening. Grima, a dragon in opposition to the Divine Dragon Naga, was worshiped by a cult called the Grimleal. He eventually grew to such power that it threatened the world until it was defeated and sealed away by the First Exalt. During the events of Awakening, the Grimleal, led by Validar, work to resurrect the Fell Dragon after being sealed away for a thousand years.

Robin, one of the lead characters, was born to be the vessel for the resurrected Grima, but due to a series of events, lost their memory and became a friend and ally of Chrom and the Shepherds.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia[]

During Act 6 of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, It is revealed that Grima was the product of alchemical experiments conducted by a man named Forneus. Known as The Creation, Grima is sealed in the bottom of Thabes Labyrinth.

Fire Emblem Engage[]

In Fire Emblem Engage, the primary antagonist Sombron is likewise a Fell Dragon that was sealed away at the conclusion of a war that took place a thousand years prior to the game's present. He is brought back through the work of the Four Hounds. Unlike Grima, who originated as an alchemical construct, Fell Dragons in Engage are a separate race of dragon alongside Divine Dragons and Mage Dragons. Also unlike Awakening, there is more than one Fell Dragon, as Sombron has fathered numerous children, though most were killed before the events of the game.

Fell Xenologue[]

In the alternative Elyos, all of Sombron's children are born as twins. Due to the hostile nature of Fell Dragons, each set of twins always loses one of the pair, sometimes by the hand of the other twin.

Appearance and Characteristics[]

In their dragon forms, their designs vary. In Awakening Fell Dragons are large, serpentine bodies with six eyes, six wings, and two long horns. In Engage Fell Dragons have snake like heads, two legs, clawed wings, and a tail that has a grabber at the end. One consistent trait among many Fell Dragons is having red eyes.

While classified as a Manakete subspecies, Grima and Sombron have different biological capabilities. While Sombron has both his dragon and human forms, Grima has no known human form. He can, however, possess a compatible human vessel and overtake their consciousness. Sombron shows that they can also breed with other Manaketes with their Fell nature being the dominant trait in their children. All Fell Dragons have corruptive capabilities, most notably in the resurrection of mindless corpse soldiers. Greater Fell Dragons also can open portals in time and space.

As the antithesis of the Divine Dragon tribe, they are susceptible to weapons forged from Divine Dragon materials or the holy blessings of Divine Dragons.
