When the stage was first introduced in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it was created to represent the Fire Emblem series as a whole, rather than one game in particular. Since Super Smash Bros. Melee does not have any Fire Emblem stages, Castle Siege is the first one in the Super Smash Bros. series. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the unlock match for Marth takes place here.

Castle Siege is a stage that cycles between three locations at different levels of a castle. The first is atop the castle, and in the background the rest of the castle can be seen, under attack from ballistae. The stage's main platform is slanted in the center, with additional platforms suspended in mid-air.

With the first stage transition, the characters are taken into the throne room, where Generals in red armor can be seen. This interior portion of the stage features four suspended platforms, two flat and two slanted, held up by statues that can be destroyed. Destroying the statues in turn removes the platforms from play.

With the second and final stage transition, the floor of the throne room itself gives way, and the players fall into a subterranean cavern. There, players fight on a single, angled rock platform balanced on a thin spire and tilts back and forth depending on where characters are standing. The platform is surrounded by magma.

If enough time remains in the match, the stage will transition back to the castle rooftop to loop through the three phases again.
