“My homeland was destroyed by King Surtr of Múspell. But not only that... I watched as he killed my mother. I can't let the same thing happen to your kingdom. Please, whatever strength I have...let me lend it to you.”
—Fjorm

Fjorm is a character from Fire Emblem Heroes and the lead character of Book II.
She is the second princess of the Ice Kingdom Nifl and the younger sister of Princess Gunnthrá and Prince Hríd, and the elder sister of Princess Ylgr. She has the power to communicate with others through her dreams like the rest of her siblings, however, her power is less pronounced than her elder sister's and she cannot recall her dreams in great detail when she awakens.

Profile[]

Book II[]

Shortly before the events of Book II, the Flame Kingdom Múspell waged war on Nifl with its king, Surtr, killing the queen, Fjorm's mother, in front of her. Swearing vengeance on Surtr, Fjorm attempted to fight him but was easily defeated. Instead of killing her, Surtr opted to leave her alive. The four Nifl royal siblings fled the castle, going their separate ways, but vowing to reunite when it was safe. Besieged by Múspell soldiers, Fjorm manages to fight her way to the outskirts of Nifl before falling unconscious on the wayside. Loki found her and attempted to finish Fjorm off but the Order of Heroes, having joined the war due to Surtr threatening Askr, discovers Fjorm and repels Loki.

As she awoke, she is informed by Sharena that Kiran had found her and nursed her back to health. To express her gratitude, she joins the Order of Heroes and requests their aid to take back her kingdom and exact vengeance on Múspell. Fjorm participates in the battles ahead, encountering Surtr and his daughters multiple times. Gunnthrá, having established a mental link with Kiran, guides the Order of Heroes to her hideout in order to enact the Rite of Frost, an ancient Nifl spell that can defeat Surtr. Unfortunately, just as the sisters are reunited, Surtr arrived at the scene and brutally murders Gunnthrá, leaving Fjorm to complete the ritual on her own.

Fjorm sacrifices herself in order to use the Rite of Frost, granting the Order of Heroes the means to stop Surtr's protective spell that renders him impervious to attacks. Fjorm also manages to reunite with Hríd and Ylgr, the latter whom was initially being masqueraded by Loki before her real self escaped from Múspell. With the power of the Rite, the Order of Heroes can finally defeat the king.

Without his protection, Surtr is definitively slain and the war ends. Fjorm parts ways with her surviving siblings and leaves Nifl, intending to return to Askr and remain in the Order. This is because she believes she still owes a debt to Kiran. She acknowledges that she is slowly dying due to sacrificing herself for the Rite of Frost and vows to make the most of her remaining life.

Book V[]

In Chapter 8, a short while after Fáfnir was imprisoned by the Order of Heroes and Reginn left to the Tower of Niðavellir, Fjorm arrives to warn Alfonse, Sharena, Anna and Kiran about an incoming attack of the army of Niðavellir, who wants to avenge Fáfnir.

Tempest Trial: "Ice & Flame"[]

Fjorm thinks back to the pact she forged with Nifl during the Rite of Frost. Upon being woken up by Ylgr, Fjorm states that her time has come at last, and that she must give herself to Nifl as promised by the Rite of Frost.

Nifl appears to Fjorm. Believing that it was her time, Fjorm pleaded Nifl to spare her as she wishes not to abandon her friends and the summoner. Nifl doesn't care for this for the oath that Fjorm took is absolute, however, she does not wish to kill her. She has asked Fjorm to be her champion in order to destroy the God of Flame, Múspell. If she defeats Múspell and his champion, then Fjorm will be free from Nifl's contract and will live. It is then revealed that Laegjarn is Múspell's champion.

Later, Fjorm had a dream/flashback of her ancestor, Hvergel, and Nifl speaking to one another. It shows that both Hvergel and Nifl were very close and that Nifl was shown to be a lot more kind and sincere, as she states that Hvergel was the one 'who thawed her long frozen heart.' She then promises that their 'connection will live throughout eternity' as she will 'cherish her decedents just as she cared for her' after she is long gone. Upon waking from this dream, Fjorm asked Nifl why she granted the power of ice to her ancestor; however Nifl claimed that it was 'none of her concern' and that if she continues to question her, she would 'force to freeze her mouth shut.' Fjorm apologised but began to wonder what had happened to her to change from the one she saw in her dream.

As Nifl pushes Fjorm to keep up the pace, Fjorm asks her another question. Despite her dismissing/threatening her not too, Fjorm tells her the vision she had of her and her ancestor, Hvergel. Nifl tells her that the cause of her dream is by the 'two bloods, the blood of her ancestor and the blood of the dragon she granted to Hvergel.' Nifl then reveals to Fjorm that she resembles Hvergel so much that she finds it unpleasant. Fjorm tells her about how happy Nifl used to be and that she believes that she had a 'deep love for mortals.' Nifl then threatened her again, to Fjorm's shock she tried to explain that she was only trying to express her gratitude however Nifl then says that she will never love another mortal. She explains that at the time she was unaware of the pain that she would have to go through when losing someone she loved. Fjorm apologises as she explains that's how mortal life goes, but to Nifl that was not the case. Nifl then reveals that it was because of her, Hvergel was consumed by Múspell's flames. Nifl then remembers Hvergel screaming in pain as she could not see nor breathe. Hvergel begged her to save her, however there was nothing Nifl could do; as a 'flame from Múspell could never be healed.' She then killed Hvergel, to release her from her pain. She knew that Múspell's purposely wouldn't kill her, as he wanted her to end Hvergel's life. Nifl then claimed that her 'love was not enough' to save Hvergel but to rather end it. She then promised herself that she would never love again in order for no one to suffer the same fate as Hvergel and to end Múspell, no matter what it takes.

Nifl explained that after Hvergel passed, she challenged Múspell, she claimed that in the end it was a draw and they both returned to their respective elements, Ice & flame. She then told Fjorm that Múspell will have a champion of his own and that she must fight against them. Nifl then asks Fjorm of who descendants of Múspell lived. Fjorm explained that King Surtur and Princess Laegjarn were dead, she told her that 'we were too late to save her.' Nifl told her that they are her enemies and that there is no need for sadness. Fjorm stated that Laegjarn was her friend. Nifl told her to hold her tongue, she says that 'to call the spawn of Múspell a friend is pitiful.' She then asked if they all had perished. Fjorm says that only Laevatein is alive, and that she believes that Laevatein is not Múspell's champion. Fjorm then remembers the last conversation she had with Laevatein, where she expressed her gratitude towards her, as Fjorm was the one who got to hear Leagjarn's final words. Laevatein claims that she always thinks of her and believes that her sister is watching over her somehow. They both agreed to live on together for Laegjarn.

Nifl then warns Fjorm that Múspell and Laegjarn are near, even though Fjorm still has no idea that Laegjarn is alive. Nifl offers her power of 'the ice god' to Fjorm in order to stop Múspell, Fjorm accepts her gift, granting her a new form. Nifl orders her to use it when the time comes to face Múspell's champion. Fjorm questions who Múspell's champion is, but Nifl declares that it makes no difference for they are the enemy, and should have no other focus other than killing her.

When the duel finally occurs, Fjorm discovers that Múspell's champion is a resurrected Laegjarn. Refusing to harm her, Fjorm chooses to take her own life rather than fight. This action, however, activates a Flame Gem Múspell brought to the duel to fulfill a prophecy from the Twilit Runes that he thought would lead to his victory. The Flame Gem resurects Fjorm, and she's able to repel Múspell with ice. He fades away, warning that his return will not be pleasant. With the battle over and won, Nifl does the same, telling Fjorm to seek happiness. Laegjarn thanks Fjorm for never giving up belief in her, and they agree that had they never been foes, the two of them would have always been friends.

Personality[]

Fjorm is described by Gunnthrá as being gentle, but prone to agonizing over things. She also comes across as being stubborn in her devotion to her country's traditions. Very specifically, Fjorm deeply believes in the tradition that if a person saves someone from the snow, he/she owes their savior a debt of favour.

In lieu of this custom, she becomes indebted to Kiran and remains one of their most steadfast allies in accomplishing their goals. This initially begins as a loyal companion, especially during the events of Book II but by its conclusion, Fjorm's decision to continue to fight for the Summoner has blossomed into a strong affection for the summoner. In several of her appearances since Book II, including several of her alternative forms, Fjorm is implied to have fallen in love with Kiran, especially her Bride form. This is supported by the epilogue of part I of the "Ice & Flame" event, where she begs Nifl to spare her life, as she could not bear to leave that person, implied to be Kiran.

Despite this, she is characterized by being a very reserved girl, becoming very nervous when other characters realize her feelings.

Base Set[]

As the first Legendary Hero and lead character of Book II, Fjorm is freely available to all players of Heroes. For much of her initial time in Heroes, Fjorm could compete with much of the meta of her time, especially when dealing with problematic ranged units, namely Reinhardt and mages in general. Time was not kind to Fjorm as newer, stronger units were introduced and without much room for upgrades, she became more of a niche unit. She has a relatively balanced spread, having a modest Atk of 30 and 31 Spd, neither of which wins her any awards, but she can perform decently against certain units offensively. Her mixed bulk is solid for an infantry unit as well, scoring 69 physical and 73 magical. The latter stat is particularly emphasized since she is primarly designed to be a mage check and as a ranged unit check in general. Given her free availability for all players, building her up is well worth it in the end for modest results even if she is not a particularly opressive unit.
Her personal weapon Leiptr grants her Distant Counter and is unfortunately its only effect, leaving her with a rather one note weapon, but as a personal weapon, it has high Mt leaving her Atk at a decent 46.
Fjorm's strength as a ranged check comes from her original special skill Ice Mirror, which reduces damage from ranged units by 30% on the attack it activates, then she takes the damage that was reduced and adds it to her counter attack. Fjorm is essentiall a partial return-to-sender type of unit who relies on her foes dealing massive, but not lethal ranged damge so she can return it onto the typically defensively frail ranged units. As of Book V, Fjorm was one of the first two Book II Legendary Heroes to receive an upgrade of her unique skill into Ice Mirror II. The damage reduction is increased to 40% and now deals 40% of her Res on her next attack. At 34 neutral Res, she can unleash 15 true damage to her attack.
Fjorm also helps to assist allies through her ATK DEF Bond 2 skills and Drive ATK 2 skills. The Book V adjustment to Fjorm added Atk/Def Unity to her Skill A, giving her an Atk/Def+5 boost if she is within two spaces of an ally as well as gaining even more Atk/Def equal to the current penalties she has inflicted onto her Atk/Def x 2. Finally her access to Shield Pulse 3 gives her immediate access to her Ice Mirror skills and can start taking hits. As a free to play unit with free access to Legendary Unit perks and a great starting Kit, Fjorm is a solid unit all around to have.

Counters[]

Fjorm is checked easily by a majority of green users. Strong green high Attack and Defense like Amelia, Hector, Brave Ike easily laugh of any attempts by her to attack them and can punish her accordingly. Fast Green Mages like Nino, Soren, and Gunnthrá can take advantage of her middling speed, by passing Ice Mirror and taking her out. Lastly, any unit that can negate her skills through Firesweep weapons, Wrathful/Dazzling Staff Combos, or Brave Lyn can deal with her without her counterattacking. The latter two renders Ice Mirror's stacking ability useless.

Skill Inheritance Options[]

Fjorm's starting kit does not need much outside assistance though Reposition helps her to maintain a Tank role, moving units away from danger so she can deal with it in their stead. Fury serves as a great skill to boost Fjorm's stats to deal with enemies herself rather than giving the bonuses to her allies.

For those seeking more damage, Glacies can be used for solid damage and run Quick Riposte 3 with that to maintain her defensive turn role, though this can be ran as her Seal rather than just her Skill B. Steady Breath is also great to use on her to speed up her special when being defensive, though its limit to being from Brave Ike who is not very easily accessible does limit the likeliness of using it.

New Year Fjorm is a unique unit as she is the sole colored bow flying unit in the game. Her offensive stats are excellent and even can self-buff herself with her skills, making her a strong offensive unit. While Kinshi Hinoka and Summer Takumi are colorless, New Year Fjorm's color allows her to take advantage of bonus damage to blue units. Her main benefit is that she is a self-buffer and with proper play, can grant herself a large offensive stat boost to destroy almost all enemies on the map.

Her bow Kabura Ya has an innate Chill Speed effect, lowering the speed of the enemy with the highest speed on the field by 7, giving her the support for herself and her allies to set up double attacks. She carries the highly valued Reposition skill, an excellent unit manipulation skill to move allies closer or farther from enemies when needed.

Her three remaining skills allow her to self buff herself when their conditions are met. Skill A is Atk/Spd Bond which boosts her Atk/Spd by 5 when she is adjacent to an ally while Skill B is Atk/Spd Link which further grants 4 to her Atk/Spd when either she uses a Support Skill on an ally or an ally does the same to her. This can lead to a +9 to both of her offensive stats. Her final skill is Even Resistance Wave, boosting her and adjacent allies Res by 6 on even numbered turns.

Counters[]

Being the only flying colored bow, she has the unique weakness to a color, particularly Red units who make up a majority of the units in Heroes, most of which can run through her low defenses. Even without that in mind, her flying status makes her counters very obvious in the form of bows.

Skill Inheritance Options[]

Fjorm can employ just about any bow from Slaying Bow for its accelerated Special Cooldown, Brave Bow for her potential to Quad attack, or Firesweep Bow to prevent enemy follow ups. Moonbow and Luna are good options but her ability to self-buff can actually make her an excellent Glimmer user.

Most of her skills can be changed to suit the players needs including Death Blow, Swift Sparrow, Fury, and Life and Death for her Skill A, Desperation for her Skill B, and a plethora of supportive skills, especially Flier skills, for her Skill C.

Base Set[]

Bridal Fjorm is another seasonal flying staff unit, but has far exceeded any of her predecessors. Statwise she matches the likes of Brave Veronica almost point for point, making her an excellent candidate for most offensive stat builds. Her high HP at the time served a particular purpose in synergizing with her innate weapon.

Her personal weapon is Gjallarbrú which carries an innate Wrathful Staff effect, giving her the means to use her staff offensively. The most notable benefit comes from its effect that inflicts a special condition【Isolation】at the start of her turn and if they are on a tile in her four cardinal directions. Bridal Fjorm disables the usage of support skills to and from any enemy unit whose Max HP is at least three lower than her Max HP. This means that it can disable all forms of support skills from Reposition to all forms of healing spells. While there are many units who are immune as her HP is average or near mid-high with a boon, thus are immune to its effects, the true power of this staff comes from the fact that it disables most, if not all Dance/Sing units, allowing her to counter many problematic teams on Aether Raids and Arena fights whose movements are unpredictable thanks to unit refreshing. This can prove to be a huge game changer for many defensive teams and likewise makes her an extremely valuable unit for any PvP Heroes player.

Aside from her Staff, Bridal Fjorm has Restore for her healing skill, healing 50% of her Atk, which is a minimum 23 HP with an Atk bane, as well as neutralizes stat penalties and negative status conditions on said ally. HP/Atk 2 is an excellent Skill A as it synchronizes with her staff, providing a decent +2 boost to her Atk and pushing her HP up by +4 extending the amount of units that she can inflict her status condition upon. Dazzling Staff gives her the ability to attack without fearing counter attacks at range, making her further an excellent counter unit to a large handful of the Heroes meta. Bridal Fjorm's Skill C debut Ground Orders, granting a special status on adjacent, non-flier allies at the start of her turn. They are able to move to any adjacent tile to any ally within two spaces of themselves, granting huge mobility, especially Armor units.

Counters[]

Bridal Fjorm can be taken care of by just about any offensive unit as her defenses are sorely lacking. She should avoid combat at all times and only be engaging if she can safely eliminate her target and if she will be left out of range of possible threats. Bow units in particular can easily fell her in one single attack. Raventome users and Legendary tomes with similar effects are also a heavy counter as she cannot inflict damage on them especially if they run Triangle Adept. Units with Null C-Disrupt are particularly dangerous as well as it negates her ability to engage uncontested. Nailah, an innate user, can easily counter kill her if Fjorm is unable to kill her. Bridal Fjorm also suffers a bit from being an older unit as her one niche can be ignored by some modern units, even the ones she specifically is supposed to target, simply due to the fact that she is difficult to gain merges while some of her targets can. Dance Eldigan has the ease of access to invest into and outright avoid a low merge Fjorm while some like Ninian and her fallen counterpart, Nils, and even Azura, have high enough stats to avoid her effects with skills focused on avoiding her activation thresholds or enough merges and Dragonflowers.

Skill Inheritance[]

Bridal Fjorm has enough tools at her disposal to immediately perform well out of the gate and requires few, if any, substitutions. With her Special Skill empty, she can merely take Heavenly Light to spread her healing whenever she is needed for that task or take Miracle for a bit of emergency said if she gets attacked. Those who have more access to premium skills can give her the "+" variant of any of the balm skills with Windfire Balm being the overall best one for most teams. Later offensive specials like Holy Pressure and Light's Restraint give her damage whenever she decides to attack.
She is one of the few units who has withstood the test of time thanks to her powerful disabling effect and only gets better with more modern skills at her disposal. C Duel Flying is an excellent replacement for her skill A, especially at its fourth tier where she gains +5 HP and +2 to her four core stats. Guidance, especially at its fourth tier, gives her allies superb mobility in her range and a nice boost if she has the fourth tier. Ascended Elicia is perhaps one of her best upgrade kit giving allies as she can upgrade Dazzling Staff to Dazzling Shift and can give Speed Resistance Hold, Light's Restraint, and Rescue depending on which skills the player desires..

Base Set[]

Blessed by Lady Nifl, Fjorm has gained a new ascended form that modernizes her original form in many meaningful ways. She is an Axe Armor unit carrying an impressive 39 Atk and 41 Spd on top of solid mixed bulk, scoring 74 physical and 79 magical. While she may not be overly opressive, this mixture of stats makes her surpisingly hardy and is designed primarily to be a ranged unit check more than anything, but can put up a good fight even against melee ranged units. Her kit mainly revolves around battling ranged units and also protecting her allies from such units as well.
Nifl's Bite is her exclusive Axe which accelerates her special cooldown and also gives her Distant Counter built in to allow her to counterattack ranged units. If she is within two spaces of an ally during combat, she gains back 7 HP after. Also if she is attacked by a ranged unit, she gains a Null C-Disrupt effect, preventing effects like Windsweep and Dazzling Staff from neutralizing her ability to counterattack. This last effect is important as it is an effect that is not on any other Armor unit prior nor can armored units inherit this skill, giving her an exclusive niche in this manner.
She has access to Ice Mirror in its original iteration, reducing any damage taken by a ranged unit by 30% then adding that reduced damage to her counterattack.
Steady Posture grants Ascended Fjorm Spd/Def+6 if the foe initiates combat and slows the cooldown of their special, delaying their specials. Hardy Fighter neutralizes any effect on her foe that guarantees a follow-up attack such as Quick Riposte, ensuring that the only way for her foe to be able to have a follow-up attack is to beat her Spd stat wise having at least 46 to overcome a neutral Spd IV Ascended Fjorm without factoring in skills on either side. A/R Far Save allows Ascended Fjorm to intercept any ranged attack made onto any ally within two spaces of her. In addition to taking the attack, she gains an additional Atk/Res+4 boost during combat.

Counters[]

Her Axe status is a bit of a bane for her as that put her at a disadvantage against the common high offense sword infantry units who use Spd related skills and can beat her through natural Spd stat advantage. Because she is ranged counter focused, this leads her without a ton of effects when combating melee ranged units in general, but she can reasonably handle lance units because of her own color advantage. Despite being a ranged check, she is still vulnerable to the many variations of Micaiah, namely her new Legendary form, and the plethora of armor slaying sword units like Hana, Tobin, and Selena.

Skill Inheritance[]

Fjorm's base kit is solid without requiring any replacements to her base kit skills as the synergy between her skills sets her up immediately for success. The only empty slot she has is her Assist skill, which Swap and Pivot can work nicely as a standard armor assist skill.
