Etymology[edit | edit source]
It is most likely inspired by the German opera "Der Freischütz", which translates to "The Freeshooter". In it, the character Max has to pass a test of his skill as a marksman to marry his beloved. Max is talked into forging the Freikugeln, "Freikugeln" is the plural of Freikugel, by his friend Kaspar who was in a deal with the devil. The Freikugeln were infused by magic from the devil which meant that six of the seven bullets would always hit their mark. However, the seventh bullet was controlled by the devil himself.
