“Listen: I'm here by my king's order, and by his order alone. I'm well aware that we have diverse backgrounds and experiences. I don't care who I pair up with. You can't always have your own way. That's just how it works in Frelia.”
—Gilliam talking to Franz in a support conversation.

Gilliam (ギリアム Giliamu) is a playable character in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. He is a quiet, yet dependable, armored knight of Frelia. He joins with Franz to rescue Princess Tana in Chapter 1, and later is appointed by King Hayden to be Eirika's escort along with the priest Moulder and the pegasus knight Vanessa. He is a long-time friend of Moulder and Vanessa's older sister, Syrene.

In his support conversations with Garcia, the two arm wrestle against each other to see which one of them is the strongest. Gilliam loses to Garcia in their first match, but in their second support conversation, Garcia notices that Gilliam fights with his lance in his left hand. They have a second match, this time with their left arms, and Gilliam is victorious, making them evenly matched in strength.

Overall

Gilliam is a Knight who joins in chapter two, on the same turn as Franz, which gives among the best availability in the game. Like most knights, his main defining feature is his high defense and HP that allow him a very high degree of physical durability against most enemies, but he must also deal with his poor Speed, Skill, Resistance, and dreadfully low movement. If the player trains him, he will be able to choose to promoted to either Great Knight or General.

As a knight, Gilliam must deal with the handicaps of his class. His base Speed of 3 leaves him unable to double even weighed down enemies until his Speed growth fixes that. His 4 movement also leaves him unable to keep up even with standard foot units, and his high con makes it difficult for mounted units to ferry him to keep up. He also has weapon triangle disadvantage against most enemies in the first few chapters that makes training him more difficult. Despite this, his raw sturdiness makes him a competent opponent against many of the threats the player will face.

When he promotes, he can become either a Great Knight or a General. In both classes he gains nearly identical statistical bonuses, but as a Great Knight he will gain two points of movement and canto to fix his mobility, and as a General he gains the Great Shield. Players may choose which class change option best fits him, with General increasing his already impressive durability and Great Knight patching up his mobility.

Endings

  • Silent Gilliam (静かなる重壁 Shizukanaru jū kabe)

Gilliam returned to his home of Frelia, where he continued to serve the crown as a faithful knight. His imposing countenance was said to strike fear into the hearts of even the most arrogant and brash of Frelia's new recruits.

Gilliam and Syrene returned to Frelia, where they were married. All agreed they were a perfect match, and their union was blessed by the crown and the order of knights. The two continued their unwavering service together.

Quotes

Trivia

  • In a support conversation with Garcia, it is said that Gilliam is left-handed, although the animation for any of his potential classes, as well as his official artwork, hold their weapon in their right hand.
