Gloucester is a character from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. He was one of the Ten Elites who fought in the War of Heroes, and the original bearer of the Crest of Gloucester.
Profile[]
During the War of Heroes, Gloucester was one of the Ten Elites who fought alongside Nemesis against the forces of Seiros, the Four Saints, and the Adrestian Empire. Gloucester bore the Crest of Gloucester, a blessing from the Goddess, and wielded the legendary Thyrsus. After the war, Gloucester founded House Gloucester in the eastern region of Leicester.

After Seiros prevailed over Nemesis and the Adrestian Empire completed its conquest of Fódlan, she pursued and killed Gloucester and took custody of Thyrsus. Subsequently, the Church of Seiros revised history to write Gloucester and the Elites as heroes who created modern Fódlan alongside Nemesis, but became corrupt and had to be struck down by Seiros. Gloucester's descendants became nobility of the Empire and later, the Leicester Alliance, passing down his Crest through the centuries.

In Imperial Year 1186, a warrior named Gloucester served as one of the ten commanders of the army of Nemesis, who had been revived by the technology of Those Who Slither in the Dark. While Claude dismissed the idea that this Gloucester could have been the revived original, the fact that Nemesis himself was revived lends credence to the possibility that Those Who Slither in the Dark truly did preserve the Ten Elites and restore them to life. Gloucester, the other Elites, and Nemesis were ultimately defeated, thwarting the final revenge of Those Who Slither in the Dark against the people of Fódlan.

Etymology[]
Gloucester is a south west english county, the name means "bright fort". It has origin in the old english "Glevo", meaning "bright", and Ceaster which means "town" .
Gloucester also serves as a reference to the play King Lear, in which several characters of the Golden Deer house are named after. The Earl of Gloucester serves as the motivation of the main antagonist Edmund, the earl's illegitimate son.
Trivia[]
- Gloucester is the only one of the Ten Elites barring Maurice that is not in a master class, instead being in the advanced class Bishop.
- Interestingly, similar to Lamine, Riegan and Fraldarius, the crest of Gloucester has an associated Sacred Weapon, despite all four opposing the saints and despite the Sacred Weapons being specially crafted by Saint Macuil. This implies that either Gloucester and the other three Elites initially sided with Seiros to then betray her and join Nemesis or, considering that humans like Nemesis and Jeralt acquired their Crest from consuming the blood of a Nabatean, the sacred weapons associated with their Crests originally belonged to the unknown Nabateans from which they each acquired their Crests.
