Profile[]
Goldmary is a royal knight from Elusia, hailing from a small village as the only child of inn owners, her parents specifically in charge of a hot springs resort.
During Goldmary's time at Elusia Academy, a town she was visiting got targeted in a surprise attack by Brodia. After being left behind by the fleeing villagers, she was nearly killed by a Brodian soldier in the ensuing battle, but was then rescued by Hortensia's magic. Without giving her name, the princess took Goldmary on her pegasus and flew her to safety. It's some time later that she meets the princess again in the academy's advanced class, and from there, they become friends.
When Hortensia is called back to the castle for Fell Dragon Sombron's resurrection, Goldmary takes a break from the academy to accompany Hortensia. Officially, Goldmary is not an Elusian retainer as she was not picked by Hyacinth, but Hortensia treats her like one and the two share a mutual bond as a result.
Goldmary and Rosado accompany Hortensia on her mission to steal the Emblem Rings from the Divine Dragon Alear. They are unsuccessful when they attack Alear's forces at the Firene-Brodia border and later during the attack on Destinea Cathedral. After the revival of the Fell Dragon Sombron, Hortensia spearheads an attack on Solm on her own, leaving behind both Goldmary and Rosado. After hearing word that Hortensia joined Alear's forces, Goldmary and Rosado pose as loyal Elusian soldiers and are able to steal the Ring of the Azure Twins. The two quickly head to the Azure Coast where they reunite with Hortensia and officially join Alear's army.
Personality[]
Goldmary is a bold woman who tends to be vain about both her appearance and culinary skill, though her statements about these are made with a degree of superficial modesty. She can be competitive in both of these regards, challenging those who compete with her in these fields.
As revealed in her conversations with Alear, Goldmary was raised with much affection and care by her parents, always receiving praise from them and the customers at their family's inn. Because of this, Goldmary developed a strong sense of self-importance. But once she began to attend Elusia Academy and came face-to-face with people who were more talented than her, it only further pushed her to seek perfection through her own efforts, and the validation of others.
Because of this, she grows extremely anxious when she doesn't receive that validation. This is shown in her support with Framme, where she nearly breaks down at the thought of being caught eating with an unflattering expression or gaining too much weight, thus giving anyone who might have seen it a lower opinion of her. Also in how she continuously seeks out compliments from several characters, such as Alear and Boucheron. This leads to a rather conceited and demanding personality, which clashes with other strong personalities such as Etie's.
Despite this, she does have a much more kindhearted side, often shown in her interactions with others. She helps Yunaka work through her trauma of housework by teaching her a method to cope with it, offers a special ingredient to enhance Saphir's dish despite engaging in a cooking contest with her, and teaches Panette and Rosado how to cook at their request. With Lapis, she reveals a much humbler side, feeling comfortable enough to be herself around someone with similar village origins. Hortensia as well, who she considers a close friend, and is indebted to for saving her life in the past.
Her Fell counterpart had no charisma or confidence, and Fell Hortensia looks up to the original Goldmary because of this.

Goldmary, along with her partner Rosado, are the final pair of the retainers to join the player's army. In comparison to many heavy hitters that precede her, namely Kagetsu, she is not quite as potent of an offensive force. Still, she sits on a remarkably solid starting Speed and most noteworthy an excellent Defense growth that gives her all the perks of a standard bulky tank like Louis, but without the atrocious Speed that leaves her vulnerable to a lot of Follow-Ups and a bit more survivability against Magic foes. In fact, her Defense growth is the highest in the game at a massive 55%, making her extremely resilient whenever she takes a physical hit. Her growths are otherwise average at best, with a decent chance at growing her Strength so she can hit hard in certain circumstances. She has a rather situational Personal Skill as Disarming Sigh penalizes male foes with -20 Hit, making her something of a dodge tank that can afford to take more than one stray hit compared to the likes of Yunaka. A vast majority of the generic enemy cast are male, giving her an ample amount of enemies to utilize this effect. Though there are a decent number of female bosses around or after her recruitment including Marni and Zephia.
Goldmary's starting class, Hero, is an excellent support class right from the get-go due to its class skill, Brave Assist, which doubles up on Chain Attacks should the unit be at full health. She begins just two levels away from unlocking it, and as an added bonus, her starting SP of 1800 is enough to immediately inherit the powerful Dual Assist from Lucina and just 200 points away from Dual Assist+, achievable with exactly two levels if she is given an Emblem Ring to wield. She can also double down on her physical wall role by changing into an armored class such as Great Knight - her base speed is usually enough even in these slow classes to avoid Follow-Up Attacks from the more dangerous Sage enemies that most threaten armored units, and she becomes extremely resilient against most physical attackers.
Goldmary prefers defensive rings in general - The Ring of the Radiant Hero is the most natural fit for her to let her soak damage from multiple strong attackers, though her damage output remains relatively low. The Ring of the Holy Knight works well as a strong repositioning ring on her for consistent chain attacks, particularly if she has inherited Dual Assist as the additional movement greatly increases her chain attacking distance. If she is reclassed to a role where her damage may be needed, The Ring of the Young Lion works to patch her mediocre strength and can also give additional movement if she is a cavalry unit as a bonus.
Overall, Goldmary lacks the offensive flash of most of the noteworthy units of her recruitment period, but she is a modestly strong supportive tank who can pay dividends immediately when put to work. At her bare basics, she is an excellent Chain Attacker and has the bulk to be used as a pinch wall to protect some of the more fragile units in the army such as her liege Hortensia. Depending on player desire, Goldmary molds well to her primary role.
