“Beautiful and cursed creatures, whose gaze turns all who behold it into stone.”
—In-game description from The Sacred Stones

The Gorgon (ゴーゴン Gōgon) is an enemy-only Monster class exclusive to Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. Snake-like creatures with human heads and serpentine bodies, Gorgons are often armed with Stone, Demon Surge and Shadowshot, making them terrifying foes to behold. Hatched from Gorgon Eggs, Gorgons mainly inhabit Neleras Peak, with one appearing as a boss in Chapter 18.

Overview

Combat

While Gorgons are essentially the monster equivalent of the Mage class along with Mogalls and Arch Mogalls, they are significantly more dangerous. Most Gorgons will usually have high Magic (like Arch Mogalls); however, they have significantly more Constitution, Luck and Resistance, and just enough health to ensure that Purge cannot kill them in one hit, even if boosted by the Slayer skill.

Gorgons have unique weapons of their own; Demon Surge, which is roughly on par with Crimson Eye. Their high Magic ensures that their attacks can deal massive punishment if they hit. They also use Stone, which causes the "Petrify" condition. While petrified, enemy units have a 100% hit rate along with increased critical hit rates, making even the weakest monster incredibly dangerous if they attack a petrified unit. For this reason, stave users should be near by with Restore staves on hand to remove this condition. Like Mogalls and Arch Mogalls, some Gorgons can come with Shadowshot, making them mildly annoying to kill due to their increased resistance and constitution.

To deal with Gorgons, use high evasion, strength and resistance units. Gorgons with Stone should be baited with Phantoms, as the enemy always targets phantoms over any other unit.

Gorgons are mainly encountered in Melkaen Coast, Neleras Peak, Floor 8 of the Tower of Valni and in floors 3-7 in the Lagdou Ruins.

Etymology

Gorgons are terrifying female creatures from Greek mythology. The term refers to any of the three sisters who had hair of living, venomous snakes, and a horrifying gaze that would turn those who looked into stone.[1] This is fitting for the game's depiction of them, in which they have snake-like hair, and the Stone spell that they have exclusive access to.
