Gregory is a character from Fire Emblem Engage introduced in the game's Fell Xenologue DLC. He is a member of the Four Winds.

Profile[]

Gregory is a member of the Four Winds, a band of knights formed to protect Nel and Nil. He is the Fell counterpart of Griss. Originally an Elusian, his parents were neglectful and cruel to him in spite of his efforts to be a good child and ultimately sold him to the worshipers of Sombron. He found that he could not tolerate the cruelty that was demanded of him and fled when his softhearted nature was exposed. Years later, he met Zelestia when he saved her from being killed by the Corrupted and was chosen to serve Nel and Nil as one of their personal knights.

Gregory was sent to spy on Brodia, he was spotted by the soldiers and ran to the border. After running for a bit, he reunites with Zelestia, Nel, and Nil who are accompanied by the summoned Alear who almost attacks him, which they later apologize for.

Personality[]

Unlike his counterpart Griss, Gregory is a timid and shy man who is easily startled by danger. Also unlike Griss, who is openly masochistic, Gregory dislikes pain. However, despite his professed cowardice, he can muster up great courage for the sake of his friends and will do so without a second thought for his own well-being.

Like Griss, who has a strong connection to Zephia, Gregory has a similarly strong bond with Zelestia, who he met when he saved her from a Corrupted attack that would have otherwise killed her. He was also close to the Mauvier of his world, considering him a brother.

Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor's personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.

Much like his counterpart and Citrinne, Gregory specializes in dealing incredibly high magic damage that can break through all but the most resilient of foes. His Magic and Resistance are both very high (the former of which is tied with Anna for highest growth in the game while requiring significantly less investment to reach breaking points), and his HP growth is serviceable. Unlike other dedicated magic units, Gregory has a surprisingly workable Strength growth and base, though the latter is neutered significantly at first due to his starting class of Sage. Unfortunately, his Speed and Dexterity are both incredibly low in terms of their base and growth, which can become very crippling weaknesses as the game progresses. Not only will he struggle to hit evasive targets, even with Mystical classes' terrain-ignoring effect, but his low Speed makes it difficult for him to both double enemy units, and in turn, avoid getting doubled on enemy phase, which, when considering his low HP and Defense, can easily spell his doom.

Gregory's niche is dealing heavy single-hit magic damage, and Sage complements that well, doubling down on his potent magic capabilities at the cost of doing little to patch his weaknesses of poor hit rates and lack of double-attacks against most non-armor units. If one wishes to patch up his other stats, classes such as Griffin Knight, Sniper, or Mage Knight can help to increase his Speed and/or accuracy. While he is losing out on the raw Magic power that Sage provides, his decent Strength growth and base means he can still deal serviceable damage with physical weapons, though he can also take advantage of weapons like the Levin Sword or Radiant Bow to deal magic damage in a non-Sage class. However, due to his relatively shaky base stats in areas outside of Magic and Resistance, your mileage with this strategy may vary, so keeping him in Sage is always a reliable choice.

As for Emblem choices, it's no surprise that he synergizes very well with any Emblem that boosts his magic, such as the Ring of the Caring Princess, the Bracelet of the Strategist, etc. The Ring of the Lady of the Plains can do a great job of patching up his weaknesses in both Speed and Dexterity, though with how contested the Emblem is in general combined with Gregory's subpar physical capabilities in his base class, it might not function well as a permanent choice. The Bracelet of the Shepherd Exalt gives a heavy boost in Speed and Dexterity as well to patch up his weaknesses, while also having two potent magic weapons to use to allow him to deal powerful damage with Engage weapons. The Bracelet of the Lonely Heir also offers the deadly Reprisal, which, when combined with any high-might tome like Bolganone or Thoron, can yield devastating results. In short, any Emblem that either doubles down on his strengths or patches up his weaknesses is a welcome addition.

Overall, Gregory is a terrifying magic unit whose focus on sheer offensive power makes him a powerful asset the moment he joins. Even with his low Speed and overall inaccuracy, he can easily fill a niche onto any team that finds itself wanting for more magic users.
