“The final battle looms, as does a choice: return Grima to his slumber with Chrom's sword or slay the dragon in exchange for Robin's life.”
—Opening Narration

Grima is the twenty-sixth Chapter of Fire Emblem Awakening and its Endgame. This chapter takes place on Grima's back.

Story[]

Naga sends the Shepherds to the nape of Grima's dragon form where the future possessed Robin stands ready to defend him. Just as the Shepherds ready themselves for battle, Grima immediately hits them with a field of dark energy, drastically weakening them in a single hit. Grima temps Robin with an offer to join him willingly or not. Regardless of their choice, Grima pulls Robin into a void where he plans on immediately killing the Shepherds before transferring himself into Robin and beginning his assault anew. To ensure that the transfer succeeds, he severely weakens Robin one more before he leaves the void to deal with the Shepherds.

Alone in the void, Robin has lost all hope and their consciousness begins to fade. Suddenly a voice pierces the darkness, the sound of Chrom encouraging Robin to fight back. Though Grima attempts to silence them, the Shepherds all begin to cry out to Robin, expressing their belief in them. Their will renewed by the voices of their beloved allies, Robin breaks out of the void to rejoin their allies. With their army at full power, Naga bestows one final blessing onto the Shepherds, healing them completely before the final battle begins.

The grueling battle against the seemingly endless waves of Risen soldiers ends with the Shepherds able to assail the Grima-posessed Robin and weaken them enough for one final choice for the fate of the world.

Chrom's Choice[]

Not willing to let Robin sacrifice themselves, Chrom lands the final blow onto Grima. Though the Fell Dragon disappears from the world physically, true to Naga's words, lingering traces of Grima's influence means that he will return again in a thousand years. Robin is left conflicted by this as they feel guilty that they lost perhaps the only chance to have permanently killed off Grima. With encouragement from Chrom, and Robin's own family if they have one, Chrom believes that their future descendants will rise to the task once more as they did.

Robin's Choice[]

Despite Chrom's wishes, Robin gathers energy into their hand, resolved to end Grima once and for all. Though Grima attempts to sway them from it since he knows they will die too, Robin accepts their fate as they throw the ball of energy at their future possessed self. Grima's body and spirit begins to disintegrate as a result, his influence disappearing from the world forever. As he disintegrates, Robin begins to as well. The distraught Chrom can do nothing but watch as Robin thank him and tells him to tell their allies that they hope to meet again in a better life.

Chrom returns to the Shepherds to announce their victory, but also of Robin's fate. However, Naga's words instill hope in Chrom that Robin will return since the bonds they fostered over their journey will bring them back some day. As the Shepherds depart from the battle, they all similarly express their belief that Robin will return and they will await that day.

An undisclosed amount of time passes as Chrom and Lissa travel the world to find their friend before they encounter someone unconscious in the middle of a grass field. Mirroring their first encounter, Chrom helps Robin to their feet, their right hand no longer bearing the Mark of Grima. Chrom warmly welcomes back their friend, telling them that the conflict is finally over.

Strategy[]

Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor's personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.

This battle takes place atop the Fell Dragon's back, with the Grima-controlled Robin resting on the other side. To win this battle, you must be able to defeat Grima as quickly as possible. As long as Grima stays alive, Grimleal reinforcements will keep coming on the field via Sigil panels every turn, which can wear down even your toughest units. The enemy's weapons are always the same, including reinforcements, so be wary of Assassins and Falcon Knights if any appear from the sigils. When they spawn is also affected by difficulty; when playing on Normal, Grimleal reinforcements arrive after Grima ends his turn, while on Hard and above, they will spawn at the beginning of his turn.

The key to clearing this map is survivability and how quickly your units can kill enemies before they can damage them or how sturdy they are to take many hits. At the start of the map, it is best to move all units into the "safe area" that can be displayed by checking the enemy movement range. This area will allow you a turn to plan out your strategy to take down Grima. From the second turn onwards, your units will have almost no area outside of the enemies' range.

Grima has a different setup for his final defenses on the northern end of the map depending on the difficulty. On Normal, Grima will have no enemies guarding him so you are free to attack him at any time. On Hard Mode and above, Grima now has a full wall of 4 Generals and 3 Berserkers meaning that you will need to dispatch at least one in order to engage Grima without using a Longbow wielding Sniper or a Mire wielding Sorcerer. These 7 units will not move out of their spots so you will need to engage them inside of Grima's attack zone. If you defeat one of the wall enemies, you can immediately attack Grima at will, however it is best to deal with the entire wall to avoid taking as much hits as possible from those units.

As the final boss, Grima is extremely sturdy and hits hard. He will not move from his spot at the top of the map, but he has a massive range of 5. His stats rise with the difficulty and he gains new skills. Regardless of difficulty, Grima will always have Dragonskin equipped which halves all damage dealt to Grima and negates the usage of Counter and Lethality. He also has Anathema to lower your units hit and dodge rate, but for the most part, this skill is less dangerous compared to the other ones he gets. On Hard mode, Grima gains the Ignis skill which will add half of his impressive Magic stat to his strength which can prove fatal if it activates as well as Pavise to shave off damage from any direct physical weapons and Taguel attacks. Lunatic finally adds Rightful God which increases the activation of his Ignis and Pavise skills up to 80% which means that he will activate Ignis and Pavise almost every time. There is hope, however, because he is extremely vulnerable to Chrom's Exalted Falchion and Lucina's Parallel Falchion so those two will prove to be valuable when taking him down on all difficulties. Secondly, he still a little more vulnerable to magic since Pavise does not activate against Tomes as well as Bows and Manakete attacks, but this only applies from Hard mode and above. On Normal and Hard, capped allies will not have any difficulties dealing massive damage or taking damage from Grima and his allies, but this usability against Grima becomes largely diminished once Lunatic and Lunatic+ comes into play.

Once Grima is defeated, you will be offered the option to either have Chrom seal Grima using the Exalted Falchion, or have Robin kill Grima. The choice in itself will alter the ending you'll obtain afterwards.

NOTE: All Experience, Level, Promotion, Reclass, Weapon Durability, Skill, Support Points and Stat changes gained will not carry over after this chapter is completed, as the game is considered completed once this chapter is finished.

Reinforcements[]

  • Four enemy units arrive at the end of the enemy's turn from one sigil area (north-west, top middle, north-east, south-east, top bottom, south-west) areas. The arriving units are the ones in the map.

Lunatic reinforcement info all reinforcements are ambush units and are unblockable even by the enemy. Turn 15 and above are undocumented.

Trivia[]

  • This chapter is always accessible after it is first unlocked regardless of whether or not it's been previously completed; as a result, this chapter is one of only two in the vanilla Awakening game whose map cannot host a skirmish or event tiles, the other being the premonition, in the latter's case due to not having a designated location on the world map.
  • If the player chooses not to deploy Robin, they will still appear in cutscenes to the left of Chrom, only to leave the map through the south once the cutscenes are over.
