Gwendolyn joins with Ogier and Barthe. She is a surprising example of an EXP theif in the essence it takes a lot of favoritism and investment to go anywhere and even then, she has averages comparable to Douglas; a general who joins 8-11 chapters after she joins. Her bases are really bad for her join time and her growths are comparable to units who joined earlier, like Dieck, which doesn't mean she has super good growths. It doesn't help that she is a Armor Knight; arguably one of the worst classes in the series due to their low movement. While one could say it could be patched up in Chapter 21 by the secret shop which sells boots, you could give them to Paladins for canto shenanigans for better results and it likely isn't worth it going for 13-18 chapters slugging around a armor knight. Many people call her the worst unit in Fire Emblem 6 because of these reasons.
Gwendolyn joins with Ogier and Barthe. Unfortunately, she joins with stats inferior to that of Bors and Barthe has a statistical advantage at first and Ogier can hold his ground against the Axe users the Western Isles arc has. In short, she is difficult to train but has some long term potential. Her growths are nothing special, but they're well-rounded and give her serviceable stats across the board, barring resistance. Her Speed and Luck give her decent avoid, Skill and Luck give her decent accuracy, and her HP and Defense give her decent physical durability. Her Strength is also slightly above average. It takes a while to bring her up to speed, but she can be a useful asset. Her movement is a natural hindrance, but one can use the boots or utilize her average con to rescue her and ferry her. She will cap Strength, Skill, and Speed relatively easily if promoted. Her HP is well above average and her luck is also decent. Training her can prove difficult but it can be effective. While Gwendolyn is by no means the greatest unit at the player's disposal, once trained, she can be effective against many physical-based bosses that typical boss killers like Rutger may succumb to, such as Flaer, however such a role can be fulfilled by a trained Gonzalez or Geese. Her triangle attack with Bors and Barthe can also take down a myriad of bosses, such as Flaer, Narcian, Gel, Sigune, Arcard, Roartz, and Murdock, however it is difficult to set up, and in the case of Roartz and Murdock, if attempting to unlock the gaiden chapter, the player is pressed for time, and the strategy of an armor knight (low movement) triangle attack to take down the boss can cause the player to exceed the turn limit, which is a downside. Something to note is that if the lead unit is Gwendolyn or Bors, as Generals, Roartz and Murdock are quite slow, and if a Hammer is equipped (which the only external preparations are promotion and raising axe level to D) the two will most likely go down in one or two turns.

While this may make her look hopeless for her, with all that favoritism, she becomes a fairly servicable unit if one decides to take the very long time to make her serviceable. Her speed becomes surprisingly high for an armor knight/general if you decide to train her up; good chance she'll be able to cap it at some point. Also, She has a triangle attack with Bors and Barthe; the other 2 armors of this game outside of Douglas. Even if it's trivial at best, it could make some boss strategies a lot more reliable thanks to the guaranteed critical hit.
If fearing her being an EXP thief, one can wait until Chapter 11A to arena abuse her to Level 20, and possibly promote her with Chapter 8's Knight Crest. As a General, she will be offensively well-rounded with decent Durability (courtesy of high HP and decent Defense) and good Avoid (courtesy of above average Speed and Luck) and Accuracy (courtesy of above average Skill and Luck).

Compared to Bors, Gwendolyn has higher Strength and Skill with slightly higher Speed and Resistance and similar Luck, but her Constitution, Defense, and HP are lower than her brother's. Compared to Barthe, she has much more Speed, Skill, and Luck and has higher Resistance in exchange for much lower HP, Strength, Defense, and Constitution. Essentially, of the three, Gwendolyn has the most Skill and Speed and least HP and Defense and middle ground for Strength. As such, one may find her useless in the department Armored units are primarily used for, front line tanking with no worries of physical attackers. While she can take on a barrage of physical attacks with little worry if well-trained, she is outclassed in this department by the other two. Another issue for the entire trio is that that role may be taken up by the two Wyvern Riders, Melady and Zeiss, who have slightly lower HP and Defense stats and much worse Luck and even worse Resistance (except for Barthe, who is about on par with them in those departments), in exchange for higher Speed, Skill, and Strength (also except for Barthe, who is on par with them Strength wise), and being fliers, giving them a whopping 3 higher movement value ignoring potential boots used on any of the three armor knights or two wyvern riders, as well as being able to cross any terrain with no worries movement wise. They also gain swords upon promotion, which makes them less in danger of axe users attacks, in exchange for being vulnerable to bows and even more vulnerable to magic, especially the Aircalibur tome, though those two as units are some of the most useful at the player's disposal, so being outclassed by them isn't something to bench the trio for, but it's still something to note. In the end, there is not much reason to use her (or the other two for that matter) aside from personal preference, but she can be useful in the long run.

Overall, Gwendolyn is certainly neither the easiest nor best character at the players disposal, but her well-rounded stats that make all her stats save for Resistance above average shouldn't be ignored.

“The weight of a knight's armor is a symbol of his loyalty”
—Gwendolyn in a support conversation with Lilina

Gwendolyn is a playable character in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. She is a knight of Ostia and is the younger sister of Bors. She first appears on turn 5 of Chapter 8 of The Binding Blade, along with Ogier and Barthe, in the northwest corner of the castle. The group assists the Lycia Alliance Army in retaking Castle Ostia. She then joins Roy's group for the rest of his journey. It is notable she can perform a Triangle Attack with Bors and Barthe.

She makes a brief cameo appearance in chapter 18 of the Fire Emblem: Hasha no Tsurugi manga.

Profile

Growing up, there were no girls of Gwendolyn's age near where she lived, save for Lilina, the daughter of Marquess Hector. The two became acquainted with each other as a result. Later in life, Gwendolyn joined the Ostian Armor Knights, a notably strong sector of Ostia's military, serving alongside her older brother, Bors. During her time as a knight she befriended Barthe, another Ostian Armor Knight who acts as her mentor, Ogier, also part of the Ostian Armor Knights, and Astolfo, an Ostian spy.

When a rebellion in Ostia headed by the well-respected general Leygance and a former lieutenant named Devias broke out, Gwendolyn, alongside Barthe and Ogier, were apparently absent from Castle Ostia. They returned, however, to save Lilina, who had been imprisoned and used by the revolutionaries. Upon their arrival, they met up with Roy and his army, who were engaged in a battle with Leygance to stop the rebellion. Under Roy's command, they helped to defeat Leygance, ending the revolution and saving Lilina. Afterwards, Gwendolyn, along with Barthe and Ogier, joined Roy's army on a journey to stop King Zephiel of Bern from eradicating the humans of Elibe.

After the war, she continued to serve as an Ostian Armor Knight, rising through the ranks to become their first female captain.
