Haitaka (ハイタカ) is a capturable boss character in Fire Emblem Fates in the Conquest route.

Haitaka is a General of Hoshido. He occupies and defends the Fort Dragonfall. Haitaka is a proud general, desiring to show his skilled spearmanship.

Overview

As a boss, Haitaka is surprisingly competent for an unpromoted foe, but he is not extremely menacing. Ideally the player should attempt to capture him with Niles. This will require a bit of patience on this part, as Niles might have trouble landing the finishing blow on him without killing him during enemy phase by mistake, or dying in the process. Ideally, the player should position Elise adjacent to Niles (but out of Haitaka's range),and pair Niles with someone who will help him survive the encounter. The player should heal Niles as needed, and should use Azura's song to allow Niles to retreat just in case he fails to land a capturing blow.

As a playable character, Haitaka may be recruited as soon as Chapter 10, providing the player is willing to wait a sufficiently long amount of time in the real world to do so. He is a surprisingly capable unit with good bases relative to his level and growths that are right in line with other playable characters. He is limited by his lack of supporting options, but can still prove useful thanks to his early access to Rally Defense.

Etymology

Haitaka is the Japanese name for the Eurasian sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus).

This bird-based naming convention is shared with Kumagera, another capturable Hoshidan general.
