Overall
Halvan is of the Bord archetype, and unlike the Cord archetype of this game, Orsin, Halvan does not get his own personal weapon. He is, however, needed to get the rare Brave Axe, and his Ambush skill has a very strong synergy with it. Like Orsin, he has good starting stats, but below average growth rates, and greatly benefits from Crusader Scrolls. He is able to use swords after promotion. He will probably be using axes more often, but at least has the advantage of starting with a Weapon Rank of D.
Halvan is generally considered to be inferior to Orsin, but usable on his own right. While it is true that he is better suited for the Brave Axe,and while it is true that he has a superior PC coefficient, Orsin's access to the deadly Pugi Axe, as well as his access to wrath, make him more versatile than Halvan. Halvan has his own niche, however. Unlike Orsin, Halvan is capable of moving into a group of enemies while holding the Brave Axe and, in all likelihood, emerging unscathed. He falters, however, when facing large numbers of ranged units, unlike Orsin. Ultimately, Halvan can be used instead of or alongside Orsin. The Weapon Triangle is of virtually no importance in Thracia 776, so the player shouldn't be afraid to field both of the starting fighters. Both units are capable of performing well from start to finish.
Halvan should be given Crusader Scrolls to compensate for his unexciting growth rates. The Odo scroll is extremely important to him, as he will need all the consistency he can get when he's relying on Ambush to survive. The Sety scroll is useful to him, as well, as he has poor speed and magic. As with all units, Halvan is greatly helped by the Dain scroll, though the player might want to give him the Sety Scroll alongside it, just to compensate for the penalty to speed. The Fala, Baldur, and Ulir scrolls are also helpful to him, though only to a lesser extent, and they should primarily be used alongside the Odo and Sety scrolls. Finally, if it's clear that Halvan will be capping most of his stats, boosting his magic and luck with the Heim and Blaggi scrolls could be an option.

Ending
Halvan - The Quiet Hero (しずかなる勇者 Shizukanaru yūsha)
Halvan took over Fiana after Eyvel's departure. He proved to be a wise leader, and Fiana developed into a prosperous village that won the envy of those living in the surrounding area.
Trivia
- Halvan's sister gives him the Brave Axe after she claims that a woman near a lake gave it to her. This implies that the woman who gave Halvan's sister the axe is possibly the same one who gave Lex his Brave Axe in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War.
