Heroes are playable units in Fire Emblem Heroes.

Profile[]

Heroes are Einherjar-like units that are summoned in the kingdoms of Askr and Embla. Unlike Einherjars, Heroes are complete visual recreations of various Fire Emblem characters from across the franchise. Heroes are summoned through special pedestals in the Askr and Embla kingdoms. The Askr Kingdom utilizes the Breidablik and Orbs to summon Heroes. Storywise, aside from the Askr Trio and the leading protagonist of each Book, Kiran summons all Heroes that fights on behalf of the Order of Heroes using the relic. The summoning ritual is extremely binding to whomever is the summoner, thus Heroes can perform acts that go against their character so long as it is in service of their summoner.

Under Kiran's summoning, outside of battle, they are for the most part free to interact with other allied Heroes as they please and operate across the various realms of Heroes, though the Order of Heroes base is their home while fighting for the Order of Heroes. Heroes under the command of the same summoner cannot intentionally harm another Hero, no matter what purpose it may serve. Fallen Male Morgan demonstrated this by attempting to attack Fallen Edelgard with no effect and Fallen Dimitri attacked academy phase Edelgard to no avail. As their summoner, all Heroes form a special bond with Kiran, becoming treasured allies as they help them get stronger. At maximum power, each Hero privately speaks to Kiran, mostly out of gratitude for their assistance. Some express a desire to recruit Kiran's services once the conflict is over while some express bitter distaste for the contract's nature. Antagonist characters even express hostility or impending violence towards the summoner, reminding them that they may become their enemy once the contract ends.

Each Hero is treated as a unique individual and every variation of a particular Hero serves as a unique individual in the Order of Heroes, rather than just a costuming change. Forging Bonds events in particular showcase this such as where Ilyana's normal form and Halloween form are seen conversing with each other and Brave Soren interacts with his Young variation. The lone exception to this would be any Resplendent Hero which is an actual costuming change of an existing Hero. The Catalogue of Heroes keeps track of these variations.

The point in time when the Hero is summoned from their world also varies as, for example, Annand is summoned before the events of Dance in the Skies in Genealogy of the Holy War while Erinys is summoned an undisclosed time after the events of said chapter. Some, like Ishtar and Lyon, are even summoned after their own deaths. In another situation, the 7th Platoon characters from New Mystery of the Emblem are from the same world as a male Kris, though the female Kris shares most of the same exact memories as her male counterpart. Finally, in regards to the three Lord characters from Three Houses, Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude, each of their Brave forms are from their respective routes the Crimson Flower, Azure Moon, and Verdant Wind routes respectively where Byleth taught their house and followed them into the War Phase.

In Game[]

Summoning[]

Heroes are summoned either via Summoning, clearing a Hero Battle/Grand Hero Battle map, achieving a certain score in the Tempest Trials, purchasing with Heroic Grails, completing certain quests, or receiving them as a gift through special Orb bundles and the Feh Pass.

Unit Basics[]

When obtained, all Heroes start at Level 1 and have an assigned Rarity of 1 to 5 stars depending on their method of summoning. Every unit has unique properties including the unit types, their weapon of choice, and their stat trends.

All characters fall under one of four unit type categories, affecting their movement range, movement limitations, and interactions with certain skills and weapons.

Icon Name Movement Range Forest Movement Special Quirks
Heroes Infantry Infantry 2 Reduced to 1 -
Heroes Armored Armored 1 No movement penalty -
Heroes Cavalry Cavalry 3 Cannot traverse Movement reduced by 1 when moving through Trenches
Heroes Flying Flying 2 No Movement Penalty Can move over all terrain.

Stats[]

Every individual Hero has a fixed growth rate and ally copies of the same Hero will adhere to a strict stat growth rate pattern up until they reach Level 40. For example, this means that every person who summons Marth will have a similar Marth at Level 40 in terms of stats. However, Heroes that are Summoned may be subjected to Traits, increasing one stat's maximum while reducing another. This gives each Summoned unit, even of the same Hero, a bit of individuality while remaining relatively the same as any other player who has obtained that unit.

Heroes features 5 stats for every unit that vary between units: HP, Attack, Speed, Defense, and Resistance

  • HP or Hit Points determine the Hero's maximum health. In battle, they can take damage and can be healed if hurt. If a unit's HP falls to 0, that unit is defeated and removed from the map.
  • Attack is the unified Strength and Magic stat for all units. The higher their Attack Stat, the more damage they inflict during combat.
  • Speed is the stat that determines if they are able to launch Follow-Up Attacks. If the difference in speed stats between two battling Heroes is 5 or more, the unit with the 5+ Speed will perform a Follow-Up Attack
  • Defense is the stat that determines how much damage a unit takes when they are attacked by an enemy unit using a Sword, Lance, Axe, Bow, Dagger, and Beast weapon.
  • Resistance is the stat that determines how much damage a unit takes when they are attacked by an enemy unit using Tomes, Staves, and Breath attacks.

Rarity[]

The Rarity of a unit changes several aspects of a unit including their maximum stat distribution and the skills that they are able to learn. Skill-wise, the higher rarity a unit is, the more skills and higher tier of skills they are able to learn. For example, Chrom is able to learn up to Spur Def 2 as a 4-star rarity while he can learn Spur Def 3 as a 5-Star rarity.

All Heroes have a fixed skill set that they learn naturally that is universally shared by all units of the same name and title. Hence all copies of Hector will have the same base skills in his kit.

General learnable skill trends for units follow the table below based on the unit's rarity level.

Training[]

All Heroes under Level 40 gain experience whenever they battle another unit or defeat a unit. Staff units also gain EXP whenever they heal an ally. Players can also expend Shards and Crystals to level up their Heroes. Maximum EXP required to reach Level 40 depends on their rarity. All battles, aside from any battles in the Arena Assault after the first daily attempt, will give EXP. Units gain EXP even if they do not defeat an enemy, but receive more EXP if they do.

Skill Points[]

See also: Skill Points

Heroes also earn Skill Points in order for them to learn skills. Skill points are earned every time they Level Up and whenever they defeat an enemy unit that is no more than 5 Levels under their current level. If a Hero defeats an enemy, they will earn 3 SP. Every Staff heal gives 1 SP up to 5 times per battle. These can be increased through various multipliers that the player has access to.

Merging[]

Players can Merge Heroes together if they have two copies of the same Hero, sacrificing one copy to give the other SP. If the sacrificed unit has learned skills, the inheriting unit gains immediate access to the skill if they have not already. All unlearned skills by the sacrificed unit also passes onto the inheriting unit. Heroes who have multiple forms such as Marth, who has his Prince of Altea and Hero-King forms, cannot merge with each other as they have different titles.

Merging the same Hero of the same Rarity garners special benefits for that Hero including the removal of that character's Flaw Trait if they have one upon the first Merge and grants +1 to two predetermined stats at each merge level. If Hero has no Flaw, a set stat is increased by 3 instead. At +10, each stat has gained +4 to each stat compared to a non-merged version of the same Hero and has no Flaw stat. It also grants a bonus Level to the character that does not contribute to the Character's Level 40 cap. Merging can be done at any level as is indicated with a +X next to the Hero's level, showcasing how many Merges has been done to the unit. A Hero can have a maximum Merge level of +10 in which the Merge Level turns Green and the stars on the Hero's Barrack's icon gaining a brighter glow. Heroes can still be merged beyond +10 but does not gain the stat increases.

Combat[]

Battles in Heroes are mainly conducted in battles between a team created by the player that contains up to four of the player's recruited Heroes up against an enemy team that ranges from 1 to 5 depending on the mode. Certain modes may allow the player to field more Heroes such as Summoner Duels which allows up to five Heroes, Aether Raids which allows up to six, Rival Domains which allows up to eight.

The Weapon Triangle system applies to the game with colors being designated to each weapon with Red, Blue, Green, and Colorless. All Swords, Lances, Axes, and Staves fall under these four colors respectively. Tomes, Daggers, Bows, Breaths, and Beasts can be designated under one of these colors but cannot be any other color other than the original assigned color of that unit. Hence Merric is always a Green Tome unit. and Tibarn is always a Red Beast unit. All Red Weapons have advantage over Green Weapons. Green Weapons have advantage against Blue Weapons. Finally Blue Weapons have advantage against Red Weapons. Units who have color advantage over their foe gain a 20% increase to their damage dealt while a unit under color disadvantage suffer a 20% decrease to their damage dealt. Colorless units carry no advantage or disadvantage against any color, however some skills like a Raven tome can create a disadvantage.

All Swords, Lances, Axes, Breath, and Beast units are can only initiate attacks against adjacent foes. While they can counterattack against adjacent foes during the enemy phase, they can only counterattack indirect units if they carry Distant Counter or a weapon with that effect. All Tome, Bow, Dagger, and Staff units can only initiate attack from two tiles away from them and can only counterattack at the same range unless they have a skill that allows them to counterattack adjacent enemies. Daggers inflict stat penalties and Bows deal effective damage against Flying Units.

Most maps and battles have the Rout the Enemy objective for completing a map. The game runs on a Casual Mode setting, meaning that any allied unit whose HP is reduced to 0 is not permanently lost from the player's roster. However, some maps require that all deployed units survive the battle. Finally, some maps have turn conditions, either requiring the player to either Survive a set number of turns or Rout the Enemy by a certain turn.

Skills[]

See also: Skills#Heroes

All Heroes are given a set of skills that they use in battle. They have a plethora of effects in battle and are categorized under one of five skill types:

  • Weapon Skills - Every unit in the game comes with a Weapon skill which is their main method of attacking in Heroes.
  • Support Skills - Support skills provide a variety of actions that allow allied units to interact with each other. These include unit placement manipulations, Rally skills, Healing spells, and Dancing.
  • Special Skills - Skills that, when activated, provide numerous effects in battle. These skills are given a Cooldown counter, which requires that the unit attack an enemy, be attacked, and/or heal an ally a set number of times before it can activate.
  • Passive - Skills that provide numerous effects in battle. Every passive skill is designated one of three skill slots and can only be equipped in that slot.
  • Sacred Seal - Sacred Seals are equippable skills that can be equipped to any character in game. Unlike all other skills, Sacred Seals are not learned by a character and are instead treated as equipment skills, freely allowing the player to place a Seal on whatever character they want it on at any time.

Skill Inheritance[]

See also: Inherit Skill

Aside from the skills that a Hero starts off with, all Heroes are able to acquire new skills through Skill Inheritance. When skill inheriting, the player may give up to four skills from one character and give it to another. Each individual skill and their various tiers are considered independent skills, thus Fury 1/2/3 are each considered a separate skill when inheriting despite being the same name. Once a skill has been inherited, the Hero used to give the skills to the other is removed from the player's roster except in the case of Rearmed Heroes, which allow a Hero to inherit skills from that unit's inventory without that Hero being removed from the player's roster. However, once that Rearmed Hero is used, that copy of said unit cannot be used again to inherit skills from.

Any skill that a unit inherits receives an increased cost to learn compared to the base unit who has it in their skill set, requiring 1.5x more SP than the base unit. For example, Lon'qu requires 350 SP in order to learn Vantage 3 while a Hector who inherited Vantage 3 would require 525 SP total to learn the skill.

Several skills come with restrictions on what types of units can and cannot inherit. Some are fixed to a specific unit type like Hone Cavalry others are fixed to a specific weapon type like Deadeye. For most Tier 4 Weapon Skills, they are fixed to the original units they come from, though there are numerous exceptions of Tier 4 weapons that are. Several characters also come with unique Support, Special, and Passive skills, generally from Legendary, Brave, and Mythic heroes, though there are some notable exceptions as well. Any restrictions to Skill Inheritance is noted in the skill descriptions when attempting to inherit a skill with the skill also being completely unable to be selected for an ineligible inheritance.

Variations[]

Many Heroes have variations of themselves that are largely different from each other. There are fourteen different variations of Heroes available.

  • Standard Hero - Standard Heroes are normal versions of the respective character. They are largely based on their original appearance from their home title, though some may appear multiple times under alternative aliases such as Camus as Sirius or Black Knight under his true identity. A vast majority of Standard Heroes are available via Summoning and all that can be obtained from that function are added to the universal summoning pool after their launch banner. A handful of Standard Heroes can only be obtained as rewards for certain game modes, namely Grand Hero Battles and Tempest Trials. These units can only be summoned via these modes or in exchange for Heroic Grails.
  • Variant Hero - Variant Heroes are special Heroes added to the game who have an already existing Standard Hero variation in the game. Some are based off of "what if" scenarios. Examples include Meisterschwert Reinhardt, Pegasus Nino, and Adrift Camilla. The most commonly seen Variant Heroes are the Fallen Variants, which focus on scenarios of Heroes corrupted by malevolent forces. Nearly all come from actual scenarios from their games or refer to "what if" scenarios for some. Examples include Fallen Berkut, Fallen Lyon, Fallen Maria, and Fallen Julia.
  • Brave Hero - Brave Heroes are similar to Variant Heroes as they are special Heroes added to the game who may or may not have an existing Standard Hero variation. While Variation Heroes are decided and designed by Intelligent Systems, Brave Heroes are selected based on an annual Choose Your Legends voting event where players can vote for their favorite heroes from across the franchise. Voting normally occurs in January each year with the results announced in February. Brave Heroes are released in Prior to Book V, the Hero who received the highest votes for both genders also recieved an exclusive skill in their set. While they are given a special month long banner like a Seasonal Hero, Brave Heroes are added to the Summoning Pool after the conclusion of their event. Players are always given the ability to summon one of the Brave units from this banner for free. Examples include Brave Marianne, Brave Veronica, Brave Soren and Brave Eliwood
  • Special Hero - Special Heroes are special variations of a Hero made to celebrate a real world event such as Christmas or Halloween as well as special themes like Weddings and Pirates. After the end of their Summoning Event, Seasonal Heroes are not added to the Summoning Pool and can only be summoned during Legendary Banners or future Seasonal Events. Examples include New Year Laevatein, Performing Arts Azura, Valentines Roy, and Festival Elincia.
  • Legendary Hero - Legendary Heroes are special Heroes that appear during a special banner at the end of each month. Legendary Heroes include members of the Nifl royal family and enhanced variations of Lord characters or other key story characters. All Legendary Heroes have an exclusive skill and are naturally locked to a specific elemental blessing (Fire, Water, Wind, or Earth). Each Legendary Hero also provides a specific stat boost to all allies who have the same Blessing element as that Hero and later Legendary Heroes can use the Pair Up mechanic. As an aesthetic, all Legendary Heroes have a unique animation that only occurs when they defeat an enemy while not activating an offensive Special Skill. Legendary Heroes can only be summoned during a Legendary/Mythic Hero summoning event and only if they are in that summoning pool. Legendary Hero examples include Fjorm, Hero-King Marth, King of Unification Claude, and Beloved Princess Nanna.
  • Mythic Hero - Mythic Heroes are similar to Legendary Heroes as they are special units who appear during a special banner at end of each month. Mythic Heroes include mainly divine entities and historic figures from across the franchise. Like Legendary Heroes, Mythic Heroes are locked to a specific elemental blessing (Light, Dark, Anima, or Astra). Each Mythic Hero also provides a specific stat boost to all allies with the same Blessing element as that Hero. Like Legendary Heroes, all Mythic Heroes have a unique animation that occurs when they defeat an enemy while not activating an offensive Special Skill. Mythic Heroes can only be summoned during a Legendary/Mythic Hero Summoning Event and only if they are in that summoning pool. Mythic Hero examples include Eir, Gotoh, Duma, and Naga.
  • Duo Hero - Duo Heroes are a unique unit that is comprised of at least two different characters who act as a singular unit. The leading character, whom the Hero unit is named after, is the one who participates in battle. The supporting character(s) appears in battle, but only cheers for the leading character from behind as an aesthetic. Each Duo Hero also has a special Duo Skill which can be activated on the overworld map via a special button on the touch screen once per map. The effects range from dealing damage to enemies in a column around the unit or accelerating nearby allies special cooldowns. Aside from one exception, all Duo Heroes are released as part of Seasonal Banners. Duo Heroes include Dressed-Up Duo Hector (featuring Lilina), Askran Duo Alfonse (featuring Sharena), Sisterly Trio Palla (featuring Catria and Est), and Fell Star's Duo Female Byleth (featuring Rhea.)
  • Resplendent Hero - Resplendent Hero are more akin to alternative costumes than a separate Hero as they occupy the same Catalog of Heroes slot as their original base forms and maintain that character's original title. They are described as visual reimagining of many Heroes characters if they were to visit some of the kingdoms of Heroes. These are only obtainable through the Feh Pass and and subscribers are given a free copy of the most recent Resplendent Heroes twice per month and any missing Resplendent forms can be purchased at any time once released. Resplendent Heroes grant their base forms an automatic +2 to their base stats and provide new animations and voice lines. Players can freely change the Resplendent Hero back to their base appearance at will, but will maintain the stat increases. Currently, only Standard and Brave Heroes can have Resplendent forms. Resplendent Heroes include Fir (dressed in Nifl clothing) and Seliph (dressed in Askr clothing), Ike (Dressed in Múspell Clothing), and Sophia (dressed in Embla clothing).
  • Harmonized Hero - Harmonized Heroes are similar to Duo Heroes as they are two different characters who act as a singular unit with one unit acting as the leading unit of which the duo is named after. Unlike Duo Heroes, the two heroes are from separate Fire Emblem titles. Harmonized Heroes have a Harmonize Skill which is activated via a special button on the bottom of the map screen just like a Duo Hero. The Harmonized skill can be used multiple times per map, but have turn cooldown before they can be used again. Additionally, Harmonized skills only affect units who come from the native home game of either character. For example Harmonized Summer Mia and Lucina affect original units from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and Fire Emblem Awakening respectively while Harmonized Pirate Veronica and Xander affect original units from Fire Emblem Heroes and Fire Emblem Fates. Harmonic units are only available on Seasonal Banners and increase scores for Resonant Battles. Other examples of Harmonic Heroes include Hatari Duet Azura (featuring Leanne) and Blazing Bachelors Roy (featuring Eliwood.)
  • Forma - Forma Heroes are special units who are only obtained from the Hall of Forms game mode, requiring a Forma Soul in order to summon. Forma are not unique Hero units as they use existing released heroes, but with special conditions and restrictions. The Forma Hero's starting stats and skills are based off of that Forma Hero's final skill build and unmerged level at the end of each Hall of Forms event. Any skill said Forma Unit would know naturally from the regular version of the unit will be an unlearned skill that the player can teach them later. Forma Heroes are differentiated from the regular summoned version of the same Hero by deep blue colored stars and boarders. Forma Heroes cannot be merged into the regular version of the same hero, but the regular version can merge into the Forma unit. A Forma Unit also cannot be used to fodder any skills they have onto another unit.
  • Ascended Hero - Ascended Heroes are special variations of existing Heroes who naturally have the effect of a Ascendant Floret. When a player summons an Ascended Hero for the first time, they are rewarded with an Ascendant Floret that can be used on a non-Ascended Hero in the player's roster. All Ascended Heroes are added to the normal summoning pool after their release. Ascended Heroes include Ascended Florina, Ascended Laegjarn, Ascended Joshua, and Ascended Ced.
  • Rearmed Hero - Rearmed Heroes are Heroes who have special Arcane weapons that can be inherited by any character of the same weapon type alongside the skills in their existing kit, including skills inherited to the Rearmed Character. When used as a Skill Inheritance fodder, the Rearmed Hero is not removed from the player's roster, but they cannot be used again to fodder skills unless another copy of the same Rearmed Hero is obtained. Merging a Rearmed Hero allows the Rearmed Hero to be used again for this, though this usage number does not stack. Rearmed Heroes are released alongside normal Hero banners, but are not added to the summoning pool after their event ends and are only rereleased on specific banners where they are highlighted. Rearmed Heroes include Rearmed Líf, Rearmed Fallen Female Robin, Rearmed Ophelia, and Rearmed Alfred.
  • Attuned Hero - Attuned Heroes are Heroes who have a passive skill locked to a unique "X" slot called Echo Skills. Attuned Heroes carry the same skill inheritance mechanics of a Rearmed Hero. Echo Skills have the special caveat of being unable to be equipped if the non-source Hero has a special non-weapon skill like Gray Waves or Human Virtue. Like Ascended and Rearmed Heroes, Attuned Heroes are not added to the general summoning pool and only appear on specific banners when they are highlighted. Attuned Heroes include Attuned Peony, Attuned Triandra, and Attuned Nino.
  • Emblem Hero - Emblem Hero are Heroes who act in similar fashion to Emblems in Fire Emblem Engage. The Hero itself can be utilized in combat and carries no particular benefits on their own that are different than other Heroes. Summoning an Emblem Hero allows the player to Engage the Emblem Hero to any unit in the player's roster, except another Emblem Hero, granting stat boosts and passive effects to the unit that is Engaged. Emblem Heroes includes Emblem Marth.
