Kagetsu is a character from Fire Emblem Engage. He is one of Ivy's retainers.

Profile[]

Kagetsu is a royal knight from Elusia, and Ivy's retainer. Because he was born in a secluded realm, he has an exotic tone of voice. He possesses a very limited level of foresight which allows him to accurately predict things, albeit only very mundane topics.

Fell Xenologue[]

In an alternate reality, Kagetsu despised Ivy no matter how much she tried to "curry to [his] favor". Despite this, he ended up dying to protect her, the reasons for which she was never able to figure out.

Personality[]

Kagetsu has a cheerful, energetic and friendly personality. He is an eager duelist, often requesting duels with people who catch his interest. He is a man of fair play and will only fight people when they are at their full strength and will wait until they are.

His alternate version never smiled and despised Ivy.

Kagetsu joins in Chapter 11 as the first pre-promote the player recruits (excluding Vander), and is easily the best physical unit in the game, if not in contention for the best unit outright. Much of this is due to his absurd base stats, with fantastic Strength, Dexterity, Speed, and Luck, and at worst average numbers for everything else except for Magic, which he does not use. He even handily outstats units that join several chapters after him, sometimes dramatically so. While his incredible bases may suggest some kind of weakness in his growths, this is not the case - Kagetsu also has some of the highest growth rates in the game, being 3rd overall, with most stats ranging from good to great and only his Strength and Resistance growths being somewhat low. While the former can become one of his few weaknesses if he does not gain Strength via other means, his bases are so high that it is likely Kagetsu will be the player's strongest fighter when he joins and will remain so for the rest of the game.

Kagetsu's starting class is Swordmaster. Due to the plethora of rings that support sword-users - and his ability to equip two S-rank swords with very high power and swap depending on the situation - Kagetsu works wonders as a Swordmaster. However, once the player obtains Ike's and then Eirika's Emblem Rings (or immediately if using DLC), Kagetsu can obtain the proficiencies for Axes and Lances, both of which he is adept at wielding thanks to his high Dexterity and personal skill, Blinding Flash. From there, he can then be reclassed to Wyvern Knight, Warrior, Halberdier, Hero or almost any physical role the player requires, and he will be one of the best possible units in all of them.

Kagetsu almost always prefers offensive Emblem Rings. The Ring of the Lady of the Plains is a powerful force multiplier on Kagetsu thanks to his already high Speed, allowing him to easily proc Alacrity and demolish opponents without fear of counterattack, and augmenting that Speed further helps to improve his high dodge chance. If his Speed is already satisfactory, he generally prefers rings that improve his strength - The Ring of the Young Lion is a strong ring that boosts his already huge stats, and his high avoid combos well with Hold Out to form a potent dodge tank. The Ring of the Azure Twins gives him extra flat damage on every attack due to Bravery and Lunar Brace, and the potential to self heal with Solar Brace also synergizes with his dodge rate. The Ring of the Radiant Hero can transform him into a solid mixed tank unit thanks to Resolve, and he appreciate the high might Engage weapons as well. Finally, the Ring of the Hero-King can turn him into a fearsome duelist and boss killer with its litany of avoid bonuses and Lodestar Rush. Should Emblem Rings be invested elsewhere, however, then another option exists: Navarre's Bond Ring, which provides Deadly Blade, which provides an extra 10 to critical chance when attacking with a sword.

Overall, Kagetsu's colossal starting stats, fantastic growth rates across the board, and weaknesses that can be easily patched makes him one of the game's most powerful units on a consistent basis. Thanks to his versatility and amazing performance in any physical class he is placed in, he is easily one of the strongest assets available for the least amount of effort.
