The Lance (槍, Yari lit. Spear) is one of the four physical weapon types that exist in the Fire Emblem series.

Technically a Lance is a long pole weapon with a sharp, piercing end. This can come in many varieties, most Lances in the Fire Emblem series are wooden poles with metal tips attached to the end. This tip comes in many different shapes and sizes, usually depending on the particular type of lance (Iron Lance, Killer Lance, etc...). They are the preferred weapon of mounted characters.

Statistically, Lances are the most balanced of the physical attacking weapons in the Fire Emblem series. Lances generally have more Might than Swords and have a higher Hit than Axes. Anima Magic can be considered the magical version of the lance, as it possesses the same general properties, being the most balanced of the magic schools in the Fire Emblem series.

Lances are the most-used weapon discipline in the Fire Emblem franchise, owing to the fact of fighting against soldiers of a large country the most often; Soldiers and various Armor and Knight classes are the most common enemy.

In Fates, Lances are divided into two types with the new Hoshidan weapon type being called the Naginata (薙刀 Naginata lit. Mowing Hatchet) and provide a +1 Def/Res increase when wielded, although this comes at the expense of raw attack power. Regular Lances are present in Conquest, while Naginatas are in Birthright.
