Lima IV (リマ四世, Rima Yonsei) is a background character from Fire Emblem Gaiden and its remake, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. He was the cruel and hedonistic king of Zofia. However, he had little interest in politics and thus allowed Desaix to secure the position of Chancellor.
Profile
Lima was the former king of Zofia, crowned after the passing of Lima III in 384 of the Valentian Calendar, being his eldest son. Under the beliefs of Mila, Lima indulged himself in pleasure and the bounty of wealth, food and entertainment that the Earth Mother provided for the Zofian people. However, he had little interest in politics, and many years into his reign the northern country of Rigel was experiencing a harsh famine and Lima did nothing to help his northern neighbors. That, along with infighting in the kingdom, caused both Rigelians and Zofians alike to hate the selfish king.
Lima was particularly polyamorous, having a great entourage of wives throughout his reign as well as many children. One of his wives was a Rigelian noblewoman who married him in order to secure food for her people. Together the two sired a son named Conrad. Another one of his wives was a priestess of Mila whom he was smitten during a visit to the Temple of Mila named Liprica. Taken away in the middle of the night, she was made into one of his wives and the two sired a daughter named Anthiese. Liprica soon died afterwards after falling ill. It is not known how much time he spent with his many children, however both Conrad and Antiese bitterly remember their father, though he had a villa built where his family could live in comfort.
A coup was soon instigated by his chancellor Desaix who burned the villa, killing many of the royal children. This incident was later blamed on Mycen, a renowned general of the Zofian army opposed to Desaix, who the king ordered banished, leading people to further question his leadership.
Several years later, news had spread that Lima IV had died, but the knights of Zofia eventually discovered that he had actually been killed and overthrown by Desaix himself, leading to the formation of the Deliverance. However, the populace in general didn't truly mourn his death due to his previous actions. In fact, most of the Zofian nobility supported the chancellor's deeds and swore allegiance to him because of it.
Trivia
- It is unstated whether Lima IV was married to Liprica or not. Liprica's best friend Irma implies that they were not, since she mentions him forcing Liprica into his "seraglio".
