Profile[]
Madelyn, daughter of Lord Hausen of Caelin, fell madly in love with Hassar of the Lorca tribe. Their union resulted in the birth of Lyndis, who was named after her maternal grandmother. Lyn grew up happily in the plains with her parents. Despite Sacaean culture frowning upon women taking on swordsmanship, Hassar personally taught Lyn how to fight. At some point in her past, while out hunting, stumbled upon a young fledgling Pegasus Knight caught in a tree. After freeing her, she quickly struck up a friendship with Florina before Florina returned to Ilia.
Lyn's happy life amongst her family and tribesmen was cut short as her tribe was targeted by the Taliver Bandits. They first poisoned the tribe's water supply before attacking them in the middle of the night. Severely weakened, a vast majority of the tribe was slaughtered, including Hassar and Madelyn. Lyn had also suffered from the poisoning, but had managed to escape unnoticed. She collapsed from her condition, but was saved by a neighboring tribe who spent ten days nursing her back to health. Lyn discovered that a few of the Lorca had survived, however due to being a woman, none acknowledged her. Without any support left, Lyn departed on a solitary journey.
Lyn's Story[]
While on her journey, Lyn chances upon an individual collapsed on the plains and nurses them back to health. The two bond over their solitary journey with Mark aspiring to be tactician. After dispatching a ruffian group with Mark's tactical guidance, the two agree to travel together with Lyn protecting Mark with her swordsmanship and Mark guiding Lyn with their tactics.
At a nearby town, Lyn is confronted by mercenaries lead by Zugu. Two knights of Caelin, Sain and Kent, aid Lyn during the battle. In the aftermath, the two knights inform her that her maternal grandfather, Lord Hausen of Caelin, has invited her to meet him in his home. Lyn agrees to return to Caelin with Sain and Kent as her escorts.
Along the way, she saves an old priest serving a shrine that was attacked by local ruffians led by the arrogant Mercenary Glass, who were attempting to take the legendary Mani Katti. Seeing the plight of the temple, Lyn rushes in and dispatches the ruffians. Out of gratitude, the priest allows Lyn to touch the sword, telling her that she can pray for a safe journey onto it. Upon touching it, the Mani Katti begins to glow. The priest reveals that the sword contains spirits that have read her soul. Having drawn the Mani Katti from its sheath easily, the priest gifts Lyn the sword as she is its destined wielder.
On their quest to retake Caelin, the party encounters various allies that would later assist Lyn on her journey alongside Eliwood and Hector. Eventually in Khathelet in Chapter 7, they meet two mysterious children, Ninian and Nils, who are being pursued by the renowned Black Fang. On Ninian's behest, the group heads to an abandoned castle in Chapter 7x to retrieve her lost keepsake. The siblings are then allowed to accompany the party as their mysterious powers could lend aid to their journey.
On the way to Caelin, Lyn learns that her grandfather is being poisoned by her granduncle, the power hungry Lundgren, who desires to succeed his brother by underhanded means. Upon reaching Castle Caelin in Chapter 10, Lyn and her allies defeat Lundgren's forces and the greedy general in a final battle. Following this, Lyn and her grandfather meet for the first time. Although Hausen initially responds to Lyn's entrance with a plea for her to leave him to die, upon hearing her name, he urges her to draw close to allow him to see her face. On recognizing his daughter Madelyn on Lyn's face, he breaks down and embraces her. Though Hausen is in a considerably weakened state, Lyn manages to convince him to keep fighting to stay alive so that the two may live together and learn more about each other. Lyn then remains with him at Castle Caelin, although her heart is still very much knotted firmly with the plains she has left behind her. Mark informs Lyn that they will be departing shortly to continue their own journey. While saddened by their departure, Lyn sees them off with a strong belief that they will meet again one day.
Eliwood and Hector's Story[]
One year later, Caelin is assaulted by Laus' forces, led by the fleeing Darin in Chapter 15E/16H. Lyn is forced to flee from the castle with her loyal vassals while Hausen overlooks the fall of Caelin. Hiding out in the forest, Lyn and a few retainers plan their assault when her Lord friend, Eliwood, and his friend, Hector, appear. Florina volunteers to hail them and plead for assistance. Darin's archers attempt to shoot her down, causing her to lose her balance and fall. In Hector's story, it is revealed that Hector is the one who had saved both Florina and her Pegasus from their fall. Florina guides the pair to Lyn, and together the three lords reclaim Caelin. Afterwards, Lyn, feeling that she is in their debt, resolves to aid the lords by joining with their forces.
Shortly before the final battle against Nergal and his Morph constructs, Athos bequeaths the Sol Katti to Lyn, noting that while it is not a legendary weapon, it is nevertheless imbued with tremendous power.
Endings[]
Lyn makes no direct appearance in The Binding Blade. In her solo ending, Lyn abdicates Caelin's rule to Ostia after Hausen's death and quietly retires to the Sacaean plains alone. She can elope to Sacae with Kent or Florina.
Lyn can be indirectly mentioned in The Binding Blade by virtue of achieving an A-Support and marrying either Eliwood, Hector, or Rath. As a result, she is a potential mother of Roy, Lilina, or Sue respectively.
Personality[]
Holding an ironclad sense of independence and fierce determination, Lyn embodies the essence of the people of Sacae, seen in how she never lies. She hold immense pride for her Sacaean heritage and does not tolerate slander towards it. Though Sacaeans are painted as savages, Lyn is friendly and cordial to those around her with a level of poise that surprises some individuals. Hard working and tenacious by nature, she is a resolute fighter and will take up arms in support and defense of those she holds dear. She is proud in the skills she has honed over the years under her father's tutelage and enjoys sparring to test her limits.
Despite enduring major tragedies in her life, Lyn remains optimistic and rarely, if ever, holds ill will. The sole exception to this is her unforgiving hatred towards bandits due to the massacre of the Lorca tribe by the Taliver Bandits. While she does not mind that Eliwood and Hector has some former bandits in their forces, she refuses to associate with them. She even extends this to those who have pirate backgrounds, seeing them as merely as bandits at sea. In her conversations with Wallace, she has firmly stated that she will never forgive the Taliver Bandits in particular and that she would never be able to move on if they continued to exist. When he revealed that he had already killed the bandits, Lyn was outraged at her lost chance at revenge. Though Wallace encouraged her to let go of her hatred as the source of her feelings are gone now, Lyn is left to ponder over his wisdom on how best to use her skills for her own happiness.
Lyn has no tolerance for prejudice against race or sex. She values her own strength and has a chip on her shoulder from people constantly discounting her ability because she is a woman, most notably the Lorca survivors who refused to follow her because they thought a woman was too weak to lead. She can be quite feisty in these cases and is quick to prove her doubters wrong. She also is capable of throwing barbs, particularly at Hector, when she feels slighted. At the same time, Lyn feels uncomfortable with court life as the prejudice against her Sacaen heritage runs deep in the Lycian nobles. While she keeps up a modest front for the sake of her grandfather, even asking Eliwood to give her pointers in their support, she feels most at home in the windswept plains of Sacae.
Lyn feels especially connected to Mark, a stranger at the start of the her adventures whom she nursed back to health out of kindness. Lyn appreciates Mark's guidance through her journey. At the end of her story, she sees Mark off, believing that they will become a great tactician they aspire to be, but believes that the two reunite someday. Upon their reunion, Lyn is overjoyed to be with them once more and pledges to support and protect them once more. Depending on the player's choice if she is paired with Eliwood or Hector, her bond with Mark can be so strong that she can be part of the reason why Eliwood and Hector name Mark as the godparent to their respective children (though they become their godparents even if Lyn does not marry either of them). In her various future appearances in other games and spin-offs, Lyn recognizes certain individuals, specifically Robin in Awakening and Kiran in Heroes, as either being Mark or holding very similar qualities to them.

Lyn has great availability and some positive traits, but her combat is often situational. Lyn's Lord class is based on the Myrmidon class line, leaving her sword locked for most of the game. Unfortunately, like other sword-locked units, this means that Lyn can't use hand axes or javelins and take advantage of the ability to fight at 1-2 range. She has good Speed, Skill, and Luck, allowing Lyn to double many enemies and hit accurately. Unfortunately for her, the Weapon Triangle works to her disadvantage. Lances become prevalent after the first couple of chapters, meaning that Lyn's Hit and Avoid will be lowered against many of The Blazing Blade's enemy units.
Her base Strength is middling and despite her consistency in gaining Speed and Skill growth, she is unlikely to gain enough Strength to make full use of her likeliness to double and/or Crit. Her low Con limits the swords she can use effectively, as heavier swords slow her down. Lyn can only use Iron Swords, the Mani Katti, and Killing Edges without losing Speed. The Mani Katti helps out Lyn significantly in the early game, as it has decent Crit and does effective damage against mounted and armored units. Once it breaks, however, Lyn will have to compete with the rest of the cast for weapons, and it's often better to give weapons like Killing Edges to other units who have enough Strength to one-shot enemies with critical hits. It's not impossible to have Lyn use heavier weapons- her Speed is good enough that she may be able to double despite being weighed down, so it may be worth having her fight with a Steel Sword despite the speed loss.
Her defensive stats are a major problem. Lyn starts with just 18 HP, although this will improve over time thanks to her 70% growth. Her main durability issue is Defense, which starts at just 2 with a 20% growth, meaning that on average Lyn gains one point of Defense for every five levels gained. Many enemies can two-shot Lyn and some stronger enemies can one-shot her. In earlier chapters Lyn can take advantage of her high Avoid against axe-wielders to simply dodge hits, but as more and more enemies wield lances it will become rather difficult for Lyn to safely fight physical enemies. Her Resistance isn't much better either, starting at 0 with a 30% growth. It is usually necessary to ensure that Lyn faces no more than one attack on enemy phase; even if given stat boosters to improve her durability Lyn will generally not survive more than 2 hits from enemies.
Lyn's base stats will be much better if the player chooses to play Lyn Mode rather than starting out with Hector or Eliwood Mode. However, focusing all resources on Lyn in Lyn Mode is inadvisable, as there other units that benefit more from these resources, such Florina, Sain, Kent, Lucius or Erk, all of whom are in better classes than Lyn. It's not impossible to train Lyn in Lyn Mode, but it's usually better to focus your resources on improving a couple of the aforementioned units. Lyn rejoins the party in chapter 15E/16H. If Lyn Mode is not played, Lyn joins at level 4 with poor base stats, which will render her extremely weak relative to other available units.
A major weakness for Lyn is her rather late promotion- the player receives their first Heaven Seal in chapter 24E/26H. Lyn's promotion gives her solid stat gains, including giving her some HP and Defense to help her survive combat, and Strength to help her deal more damage. She also gets an extra point of movement and access to Bows. Compared to Eliwood, Lyn's promotion is rather subpar. Bows can help Lyn contribute against flying enemies, but she only starts with a D rank, meaning she won't be able to use stronger bows and therefore probably won't 1 shot enemy fliers given her poor Strength and the decreased weapon effectiveness in FE7. Louise joins at the same time you receive the Heaven Seal, and she'll have the bow rank necessary to use Silver Bows and Brave Bows, making her an easier candidate for an anti-flier bow user. Eliwood gets a horse and access to Lances, giving him the extremely helpful ability to attack at 1-2 range and the ability to move further and rescue other units. If both Eliwood and Lyn are able to promote, it's often better to give Eliwood the first Heaven Seal to take advantage of his stronger promoted class. Lyn can eventually get access to 1-2 range with weapons like the Light Brand and the Runesword, but these weapons are rare. It's usually better to give these weapons to bulkier sword-wielding units who have the defensive stats necessary to fight on enemy phase.
In the final chapter, Lyn receives her second personal weapon, the Sol Katti, which is unfortunately a pretty weak weapon. Not only is the sword's Might of 12 only on par with silver weapons, but its weight of 14 is utterly colossal, dragging down her Speed by 8 points. It's probably better to have Lyn wield a Silver Sword or Killing Edge, but no matter what weapon she wields she's unlikely to contribute much to the final chapter due to her low Strength and inability to survive many hits from the many strong enemies. Lyn is especially weak against the final boss, the Dragon- she'll deal extremely little damage, and often dies in just one hit as the dragon's attack ignores Defense and deals 39 damage.
In total, Lyn has some strong points, but struggles to contribute as much as other units. Her poor durability, sword-lock, and middling promotion bonuses all combine to make Lyn a difficult unit to use effectively for most of the game. Even if Lyn gets some favoritism to improve her poor durability and below average Strength, she'll still often compare unfavorably against other units who have easy access to 1-2 range.

SpotPass Lyn is a perfect way to get a ready-to-go version of Lon'qu with little work needed. Because Lyn is already at level 18 upon recruitment, she can instantly reclass into any gender-permitting class. If looking to further develop Lyn, then you could put her through the Paladin and General Lines to learn Aegis and Pavise. Additionally, Lyn should be put through the Dark Flier class to learn Galeforce for easy map-clearing and to accelerate training. The Mercenary class also provides the useful Armsthrift skill to keep weapons in pristine condition, reducing the need to buy new weapons to replace broken ones or further preserve the usage of Legendary Weapons. Overall, Lyn is already a good unit out of the box, but can become even more powerful with a few more skills.
DLC Lyn starts off at a lower level than SpotPass Lyn, but due to her same growth rates, she can exceed SpotPass Lyn in the long run. The only main advantage DLC Lyn has over SpotPass is access to Zeal which SpotPass Lyn cannot acquire. However, Zeal's 5 point Critical Hit boots is minor in the grand scheme of the many other skills for her to obtain, but nevertheless useful in generating Critical Hits.

Base Set[]
Lyn is fairly typical for a Red Sword unit using her high Spd to compete with other sword users in the dominant tiers. Unfortunately, her low 28 Atk makes it difficult for her to deal meaningful damage without a bit of investment, using Dragonflowers, or acquiring her Resplendent form. Though this may bring her up to par with many units introduced long after her, this also in turn makes her a long term and heavy investment to get to that level whereas many of her biggest competitors are already as solid if not better without needing much outside assistance offensively. Nonetheless, Lyn's surprisingly well-rounded bulk has its perks in making her sturdier than most of her fellow fast sword infantry units and can take advantage of this to get her into damage thresholds for some of the skills in her base kit and from many of the coveted necessary skills.
Lyn functions like Ayra or Mia since Sol Katti has a Desperation 2 effect which is fairly typical of units of that type, but this freed her Skill B for some unique effects that her competitors cannot. This was later boosted by the Sol Katti's Refine which made it into Desperation 3 and if refined with its Effect, it now has a Brash Assault effect, guaranteeing a follow up and brave follow when under 75%.
Lyn's kit otherwise is fairly unimpressive. Galeforce works well given her high speed, but she lacks the stats to effectively utilize it. Defiant Attack did sync well with her initial Sol Katti effect but fell out of favor for other skills with similar effects with less HP risks and better synergy with the Refined Sol Katti. Finally Spur Speed is a subpar Skill C but can be replaced by better skills.
Counters[]
Lyn's low Atk makes her vulnerable to Steady Breath users as she inflicts small damage only for a huge Special attack from them in retaliation. Given her reliance on buffs, any sort of debuffer stops her dead in her tracks, including Gunnthrá whose Chilling Seal will target her usually lower Def stat. Otherwise, normal Blue counters, both bulky and magical, dispatch Lyn with little effort.
Skill Inheritance Options[]
Lyn should maintain her Effect Refine Sol Katti as its built in Desperation/Brash Assault are a great combination together. Brazen Atk/Spd sync well with her need to be damaged while Wrath accelerates her cooldowns. If on a budget, Swordbreaker allows her to take out her rivals. Her Skill C is flexible, but she wants to debuff her enemies so they deal less damage to her when they duel. Taking either the Attack or Defense version of Smoke, Threaten, or Ploy are solid options for most of her targets in battle.

Base Set[]
Bridal Lyn is a Seasonal Infantry Staff unit with typical stats for most early Heroes staff units. She has mediocre Atk and low bulk, but has surprisingly high Spd. This unfortunately was not helped by the fact that Staff units were underpowered. With the Weapon Refinery, Bridal Lyn has for the most part stayed the same performance wise, but requiring far less resources than her main competition in terms of one of her unit archetype's typical build.
Her Candlelight staff inflicts a special debuff on her target and enemies within two spaces of the target, leaving them unable to counterattack. It helps to shutdown powerful enemy turn units, especially those running Close Counter/Distant Counter specifically. Rehabilitate was one of the strongest healing Support Skills due to the sheer regeneration it gave to low health allies, but the inconsistency of the heals has left it powercrept even with the advanced form. Swift-Winds Balm likewise gave a boost to all allies Spd when it activated, but was powercrept by advanced versions.
She was the first to carry Dazzling Staff which initially was used to merely apply debuffs from Candlelight or whatever staff she inherited. With the Weapon Refinery, she became one of two units initially who could run the Dazzling Staff/Wrathful Staff combo upon the feature's release without needing to inherit it off of someone else. While Genny was in the regular summoning pool with Wrathful Staff, Bridal Lyn was the only unit with the skill for over a year until Maribelle was released, leaving her as one of the most valuable units in the game in terms of inheritable skills.
Counters[]
Bridal Lyn's defenses are low and her Atk is mediocre. Just about any bulky unit can shrug off her attacks and run through her during their turn. Raventome users like both Mage Robins, Sophia, and Lyon inflict triangle advantage damage to Bridal Lyn, and are her most potent counters. While she has the highest Spd of all Infantry Staff units, she is still vulnerable to Brave Weapons and extremely fast, hyper offense characters who either force a double through their weapon effect or boost their speed to double over her anyways.
Skill Inheritance[]
Bridal Lyn already has the most important skill for her Skill B so to finish off the build, Pain with a Wrathful refine plus Savage Blow is all she needs for the standard build for offensive staff unit. Skill A ranges from flat stat increase skills, Bond, or Solo skills. Recovery is a much more consistent healing spell and performs better overall. Taking an advanced balm skill serves better for scoring while Heavenly Light gives better healing coverage to allies.

Base Set[]
Brave Lyn is widely considered and remembered as one of the first true Meta defining character of Heroes. She was the first Bow Cavalry unit introduced in the game and entered with great offensive stats on top of her huge movement range plus attack range from her bow, essentially attacking any enemy within 5 spaces of her and increased if she has a dancer in the proper position. Her overall offensive prowess could not be denied in placing her as a top tier unit in her heyday if only at the cost of low bulk if she can be baited or quickly dispatched before she has the opportunity to unleash her attacks.
Mulagir gives her an innate Spd +3, bringing her neutral Spd to 38, high enough to double a wealth of enemies and avoid doubles from some high Spd units. If facing a Magic user, such as a Tome or Staff, she neutralizes any visible buffs, thus shutting down many common Armor and Cavalry units who rely on their visible buffs to increase namely their bulk. While underwhelming, it can be situationally useful in securing kills against some units. Alongside her fellow Choose Your Legends 1 units, she gained a refine two years after release and hers is an improvement over her base version's effect, now affecting Dagger and Bow units and a nice +4 buff to her four core stats so long as her Spd is higher than her opponents. Only a small handful of units are able to reach over her base 38 Spd when she is attacked or over 42 when she attacks with her innate Swift Sparrow.
Her special unique skill Sacae's Blessing further makes her dangerous as she can deal with any unit with Distant Counter skills in their kit or weapons as it negates their ability to counterattack at range, effectively shutting down many powerful units like Fjorm, Hector, and Ryoma. This on top of Swift Sparrow solidified Lyn as a powerful player turn character. To give her some form of survivability, she has Attack Smoke for her Skill C, which allows her to weaken enemy Atk that she cannot finish off, removing some of the threat of their damage the next turn if she is unprotected.
Brave Lyn's better days are behind her around the start of Book IV, as many units became stronger or better at playing her role, but as a flex pick, Brave Lyn can perform admirably if handled with a bit more care than before and can actually counter some strong units released after her given the right situation. She may need some Dragonflowers to bring her stats to a more impactful level, but her payout does reward the players in a pinch and thus she is more of a hard counter unit now.
Counters[]
Brave Lyn is best dealt with by Dragon Units, especially those with Lightning Breath+ and Expiration Robins whose counterattack ability cannot be negated, though Myrrh without an Iote's Shield would be an exception to this. Null C-Disrupt shuts down Sacae's Blessing, thus rendering her vulnerable again to melee range units that can counterattack at range.
While powerful during her turn of action, she is at her weakest during the enemy phase and can be downed easily by most physical attacks so units with high enough defense and decent enough speed can limit her damage during her turn and return the favor. Raventome users with high defense, such as Male Robin, or Lyon also help to counter her if they run Triangle Adept 3. If they can initiate on her, Brave weapons work well on ploughing through her defensive stats. Lastly any form of Anti-Cavalry weapon shreds through her low defenses, especially Refined Keen Wolf tomes which negate any bonuses she receives and deals effective damage.
Skill Inheritance Options[]
Brave Lyn's base kit is strong enough that she does not need much outside investments. Brave Bow+ is a fairly common skill inherit as it further solidifies her Player Turn offense, allowing her to double and some times even quad attack a majority of the characters in game. ATK Smoke 3 is perfectly fine on her skill set, but can be replaced with other skills like SPD Smoke 3 to increase her offensive prowess. Alternatively Hone Cavalry gives her some utility to assist her allies who are also buffing her. Lastly Reposition is the go to Cavalry Support skill and Brave Lyn is no different in taking that skill over any other Support. In Book 7 and beyond, you should consider Whitecap Bow+ or Arcane Náströnd for her weapon, though the later will require that you ditch her PRF skill.

Valentines Lyn is the third mage armor unit and currently the only blue one. She is the fastest armor unit currently and has respectable Atk as well, making her a solid offensive unit. Her defenses are workable and mixed, allowing her to be built in various ways from a player turn offensive character to a bulky enemy phase unit. Her only weak point is her HP, hurting her mixed bulk a little, but it is not entirely unsalvageable.
Blue Gift neutralizes enemy stat bonuses received from skills like Fortify or Rally skills from battles involving ranged weapons, forcing them to attack her outright without any assistance. This allows her to counter visible buff reliant units, namely Bladetome units. Depending on her build, this can be an excellent weapon to maintain simply to shut down a strong unit archetype.
Ardent Sacrifice gives 10 HP to an ally that she uses it on. Unfortunately her low HP pool and general kit build does not suit the skill, especially since she has no means of regeneration. Attack Speed Bond increases her Atk/Spd +5 when adjacent to an ally unit, giving her a boost when sticking close to allies, namely armor units since it also keeps Armor March, her skill C, active. Guard rounds off the skill set, inflicting a -1 special cooldown to an enemy who attacks her over 80% HP, making it difficult to activate their specials.
Counters[]
Valentines Lyn's defenses are sufficient enough to handle some enemies, but she cannot fully overcome the weapon triangle and survive common Green offensive units like Brave Ike, Dorcas, and Helbindi who can smash through her lower Def. High Res Green like Deirdre and Gunnthrá as well as anti-mage units like Felicia, Fjorm, and Halloween Sakura hard counter her. Distant Counter wielding greens like Hector can ward off an attack and counter while dragons like Fae, Myrrh, and Fallen Male Robin can exploit her lower Def and retaliate with their breaths.
Skill Inheritance[]
Valentines Lyn is an excellent recipient of Close Counter given her bulk, regardless if being used for offense or defense as the ability to counterattack at any range is extremely useful. Swap allows her to place better suited tanking units against enemies she cannot handle. Moonbow is a fast charging special that allows her to bypass defenses so she can deal more damage. Bold Fighter or Special Fighter helps her to quickly charge her special and in the case of the former, force doubles, while the latter maintains Guard. Her tome can be swapped out for Blárowl as she will likely maintain a tight formation with her armor allies to maintain her Armor March while she can also be ran with Blárblade as her offense and access to armor buffs sync well with the tome as well.

Legendary Lyn introduced the Colored Bow, having a Green Bow on hand. This new weapon type did not particularly change much other than providing a new way to counter Mages, in her case improving her damage against Blue Mages, but at the same time now strapping a weakness to Red units. Her stats are mainly offensive, having solid Atk and high Spd as well as a decent magical bulk to reinforce countering blue mages. However, her physical bulk is low and can be brought down easily by any sort of red physical unit.
Legendary Lyn has a rather weird skill kit that gives her perks in both phases, but this is more of a detriment than an actual asset. Her Swift Mulagir not only gives her further magical bulk with +3 Res, but it also boosts her Atk/Spd by 5 if she has more allies within two spaces of herself than enemies within two spaces (excluding her target). It works in both phases and can be easily reached depending on team set up, thus she can bring her neutral Atk and Spd to a solid 50/41.
Laws of Sacae is an easy skill to activate as its requires that she has at least two allies within two spaces of herself and it boosts her four core stats by 4. This would sync well with Swift Mulagir as it would entail a +9 Atk/Spd +4 Def/Res boost, but it also only activates when she is attacked, limiting its potential. Some prefer to outright replace this skill as the benefits are too situation and goes against her primary role as an attacker, not a baiting unit.
Legendary Lyn has Rally Defense Resistance to boost her ally Def/Res by 3, Desperation to immediately use her Follow-Up attack if initiating under 75% health, and Speed Tactic to boost the Spd of her allies within two spaces if used on a mixed unit type team.
Counters[]
Legendary Lyn will go down to any red physical unit as she will be unlikely to deal significant enough damage to them. Any who pack Distant Counter is an instant death sentence for her as she is likely going to be built offensively rather than defensively.
Skill Inheritance[]
Legendary Lyn is only missing a Special Skill, which Moonbow or Luna fill nicely. With her reasonable Res, Iceberg can also work. Reposition provides a better Support Skill option to keep allies who are better at tanking than her in front or to pull an ally out of enemy danger zones. Her solid Res allows her to run Ploy skills reasonably and apply it over any units with Res 29 or less against a neutral Legendary Lyn. Legendary Lyn should be built to either maximize player turn offense or baiting in the enemy phase, changing her Skill A or B respectively to fulfill this need.
For offensive Legendary Lyn, replacing Laws of Sacae for Swift Sparrow increases her initiating offense, Flashing Blade takes her high Spd and accelerates her cooldown, or Fury to give her mixed phase stat boosts that also has a small recoil to put her into Desperation range safely.
Defensive Legendary Lyn takes Null C-Disrupt to stop mainly Firesweeps and Dazzling Staff users, Vantage allows her to initiate before her ranged enemy can. Mystic Boost nullifies Wrathful Staff and forces Dragon Units to attack her much higher Res. It also provides some minor healing afterwards, which helps with her bulk to an extent.

Summer Lyn is another color bow variant, this time wielding a Blue Bow while also becoming a Flying unit, granting her impressive mobility. The Blue Color on her is still somewhat of a mixed bag as she can easily decimate Red units, but is susceptible to Greens. Her offense is solid with neutral 33 Atk/38 Spd without her weapon, the latter which allows her to double a wide range of units and at least neutralize enemy doubling from many high tier Red units. Her bulk, especially her physical bulk, is on the lower side, but her offense can make it irrelevant in situations.
Deep-Blue Bow brings her neutral Spd to 41, further increasing her ability to Follow-Up or negate others. It also is effective against armor units in addition to its flying effectiveness. The bow's biggest perk is its +4 core stat boost if she battles an enemy whose HP is 100% at the start of battle, which mainly boosts her offense even further to near absurd levels, especially given the often easy means to use the effect.
Reposition is a standard ally positioning skill and one of the most desirable Support skills on a unit like her. Sturdy Impact allows her to safely initiate on physical units who are able to counterattack her, namely color match ups like Zelgius, Ryoma, or Ike since she gains +6 more Atk, bringing it to neutral 57 with Deep-Blue Bow in effect, plus bringing her Def to a manageable 30 Def. Attack Speed Link boost the Atk/Spd of herself and an ally by 6 when a Support Skill is used involving Lyn as either the user or the recipient of the skill. Distant Guard provides a Distant Defense effect to allies who are within two spaces of her, providing extra bulk.
Counters[]
As a flier, just about any standard Archer can shoot Summer Lyn down thanks to her low Def, including her Brave and Legendary forms, the latter whom also has a color advantage. Merric can tear through her with Excalibur. Green units otherwise deal massive damage to her, including Dragons like Myrrh or Fae who can target her lower Def. While she can deal some damage to Green Armor users of Distant Counter, she is overall vulnerable to Greens.
Skill Inheritance[]
Moonbow is a good choice for a Special since its fast charge allows Summer Lyn to use it against high Def enemies. Swift Sparrow pushes her Atk and Spd when initiating and the latter is a better boost than Sturdy Impact's Def since she can ensure she doubles over some potent threats. With Desperation, she can use her follow-up immediately so long as she is in her health threshold to activate it. Skill C is flexible, though Attack or Speed Waves are solid choices while Hone/Fortify Fliers assist her Flying teams.

Base Set[]
Joined by Florina, Ninja Lyn has an impressive offensive force that smashes through most opponents with little effort. At an incredible 38 Atk and 42 Spd, these make her the strongest colorless dagger unit in terms of raw damage output as she hits hard and can double a large portion of the cast, especially if she has a Spd boon to put her at 45. Unfortunately her overall bulk is lacking sitting at 61 physical bulk and 66 magical bulk, meaning that she will likely perish to an enemy who gets the jump on her or someone who can effectively tank her hits. However, her status as a flying unit also grants her superb mobility giving her an advantage of sneaking attacks using untraversable terrain as a protection. Overall, Ninja Lyn is an offense powerhouse and can slaughter a full enemy team if she is allowed to fly loose. As the winner of the A Hero Rises 2021 event, she is available for free for all players of Heroes in March 2021 thus is a widely available hero that packs an incredible punch for any player needing an offensive unit.
Tailwind Shuriken brings her Atk to an solid 47 Atk and an additional +4 Spd, though she does take a hit to her Def/Res by dropping both by 4. If she attacks a foe, she will inflict a Def/Res -7 debuff on that foe if they survive combat as well as enemies within two spaces of them. What truly makes this weapon shine, and turns Ninja Lyn into a hyper aggressive offensive unit, is the third ability to attack twice, essentially having a Brave Weapon effect, so long as she initiates combat. With her Spd, she can easily quad attack a huge range of units in the game and with certain skills in her base kit, she can easily thrust this effect onto nearly every single unit, even some highly invested merged units.
To further her aggressive build, Ninja Lyn's Duo skill essentially gives her a self refresh allowing her to perform an additional action so long as she attacked an opponent. While this does not necessarily extend her range, she can use this like a instant Galeforce to pummel the enemy team before they have an opportunity to reorganize after one of her assaults. Ninja Lyn can also take advantage of units who can give her additional movement such as Legendary Azura to give her truly terrifying field presence, though mostly in the player's hands.
Moonbow allows her to ignore a little of her opponent's Def of which she can easily get it into activation in a single round of combat. Swift Sparrow 3 gives her an additional 6 Atk and 7 Spd, perfectly syncing with her dagger to ensure that she is above double attack range against her opponent. Chill Atk/Def inflicts Atk/Def -5 to the foe with the highest sum of the two stats. While it does not always inflict this on her intended target, the sharp reduction to both stats only further increases her damage output and ability to survive against a few more foes. Spd/Def Rein inflicts Spd/Def -4 on foes within two spaces during combat, again furthering her damage output.
Counters[]
Ninja Lyn is an absolute terror during her turn, but loses out on defensive turns and particularly when used on a defensive AI team, where she completely lacks the ability to use her Duo Skill. Very few units can outright tank her hits unless they carry some form of damage mitigation. Fallen Lyon is easily the strongest candidate for this role as his Blood Tome has the damage reduction effect and he also inflicts a color disadvantage over her, though he does take heavy damage nonetheless. Brave Dimitri and Brave Ike have options to soak her hits in their unique skills, though are not as strong as Lyon. Otherwise, any unit who can simply get to her first and overwhelm her will have no issue felling her in a single hit. Bows especially are a guaranteed one-hit kill unit. Also the threat of the Duo skill is not present on enemy AI teams so she loses quite a bit of her terrifying offense. Cecilia is also a combination of color effectiveness with Tome of Order, pushed by Triangle Adept in her refine, and flier effectiveness, allowing her to easily one-shot Ninja Lyn if she attacks, though she will need to have a little bit of defensive investment if Ninja Lyn is the one who initiates combat.
Skill Inheritance[]
Ninja Lyn's starting kit is tailor made for success and basically only needs Reposition as the ideal assist skill for its utility for unit positioning. While her starting three passive skills are strong enough to make her immediately useful, swapping them for other skills can modify her gameplans. Skill A can be Sturdy Impact just to give her some bulk in case the foe can counterattack and can survive her attack. Fury also works great due to the flat increase to her stats and most notably pairing this with Desperation allowing her to immediately unleash her four attacks before the foe has the chance to strike back once. As a flying unit, she can use a host of flier exclusive skills like Aerobatics, Ground Orders, or general flyer assist skills like Hone Fliers to help her fellow teammates outs.

Base Set[]
Emblem Lyn is the fifth Emblem Hero introduced to the game and comes with a literal new【Style】unique to her upon launch. On her own, she retains her general fast pace, high offense stats and is a Green Bow Infantry unit much like her Legendary incarnation. Emblem Lyn is among the fastest units in the game without any skill in consideration at 48 and can reach 52 on a Spd Asset, all while piercing foes with her strong Atk stting comfortably at a 46. She trades this off for some middling mixed bulk at 69 physical and 71 magical bulk. Emblem Lyn's overall potential marks her as a strong offensive unit while introducing a new gimmick to Heroes and is a herald of new tactical possibilities.
Lady's Bow is her preferred weapon, which accelerates her special trigger, requiring one less attack to charge. If she is within two spaces of an ally at the start of turn, she gains a flat Atk/Spd +6 increase,【Desperation】, allowing her to immediately perform her follow-up attacks before her foe's can counterattack, and 【Preempt Pulse】, granting her an immediate -1 count to her special charge before combat. If she is within three spaces of an ally, she gains at least +6 to her Atk/Spd plus 20% of her Spd added to these stats at the cart of combat, deals +7 true damage, and reduces the percentage of non-Special damage reduction skills by 50% during combat. She also gains【Potent Follow %】if the Spd difference of at most 25 would allow her to perform a natural Follow-Up attack.
Emblem Lyn's Emblem skill is her special Astra Storm, having a two charge cooldown, though her bow makes it a one charge. When active, it boosts damage by 40%. If her special is ready or has triggered during combat, has【Potent Follow %】, and its X value is less than or equal to 99, then it automatically registers as an X = 100. It also enables the new【Style】mechanic.
Emblem Lyn's【Style】is Astra Storm Style. When switched into, Emblem Lyn becomes unable to move, but instead gains the ability to attack any foe that is within six tiles of her as well as any spaces that is within three columns and rows centered around her. Foe's cannot counterattack unless they either are a Ranged Armor unit, is a melee ranged unit with any type of Distant Counter effect in their weapon/skills, or is a non-armored ranged unit being attack at normal range. She also cannot destroy structures and does not trigger any after combat effects like Galeforce and 【Canto】. Also this style attack can only be done once per turn, thus even refreshing her with a Dancer unit will not allow it to be done a second time on the same turn.
Units who Engage with her gain the same【Style】change mechanic, but has only a range of five instead. Also if they trigger their damaging, non-AoE special, their damage is boosted by their special cooldown charge count x 4.
She has Attack Speed Finish, giving her Atk/Spd+7 if she is within three spaces of an ally during combat. If her special is ready or triggered before or during combat, she gains a neutral +5 damage and restores 7 HP after combat if she attacked her opponent and she survives. Speedtaker grants Spd【Great Talent】+1 at the start of her turn and changes to Spd【Great Talent】 +4 after combat that she attacks. Her buffs from Great Talent is retained to the end of based and cumulatively increase with each activation and are not considered Bonus stats, meaning they are unaffected by【Panic】effects. They do cap at 【Great Talent】 +20. Her foes also take a Spd/Def-4 penalty and she deals damage = 20% of her Spd, neutralizes any penalties to her Spd, and neutralizes and opposing skill that increase her Special Cooldown charges. Panic Smoke inflicts -3 to her foes four core stats and the【Panic】status, converting any visible stat buffs on her foes into penalties. She also gains 【Foe Penalty Doubler】to herself and her allies within the four cardinal directions of her.
Counters[]
Emblem Lyn can be difficult to approach and unlike Harmonized skills, AI controlled Emblem Lyns do have access to her【Style】range. Enemy Range is important in keeping track of how much presence she has on a map at all times. Fortunately, she cannot utilize warping skills whenever she does this, so she cannot use Wings of Mercy or Emblem Celica's Engage skill to sneak an attack. A properly supported Emblem Lyn with a Dancer may extend this range though fortunately she cannot【Style】attack twice in the same turn. Her best counters are sufficiently bulky counterattacking units since even under her【Style】, she can take a counterattack from such foes. Some powerful units like Brave Felix and Attuned Hector can easily take her hits and retaliate on defense. However the former may need to deal with her quickly before she can build her【Great Talent】count. The latter can easily weather her attacks and any unit with similar resilience can take her. Having units like this with Far Saves can effectively cover his allies and render them immune from her assaults, forcing her to take on her biggest counters. Otherwise, Emblem Lyn suffers from no coverage on her enemy's turn and has no means to take care of melee ranged foes initiating on her and foes with massive movement like Emblem Sigurd can obliterate her while waiting outside of her Astra range. Scowl effects also can hit her every now and then, thus reducing the pressure of her Astra Storm special, one of her biggest damage boosters.
Skill Inheritance[]
Emblem Lyn has a functionally strong kit that does not immediately need any replacements to begin dominating and only an Assist skill like Reposition or Draw Back to fill in her only empty skill slot.
Sly Swift Sparrow is probably her best A skill since Emblem Lyn is by far best suited to stay a player phase ballista-like unit and is a natural candidate for【Bonus】to improve her overall damage outputs. Skill C is also worth replacing in some situations as Time's Pulse at four tier deals with the problem with Scowl skills that can prevent her from activating her Astra Storm reliably. Alternatively, Fatal Smoke can neutralize enemy teams that rely on sustain.
Of all the Emblems available at the time of her release, Emblem Lyn benefits tremendously from Emnlrm Sigurd's as she gains Canto after attacking. This allow her to still attack at ballista range and then reposition herself after, either defensively in anticipation of her foe's next turn or to set up her presence in lieu of her own next turn.

Fire Emblem Awakening[]
Lyn appears as a DLC character from the first Xenologue, Champions of Yore 1. At the end of the Xenologue Smash Brethren 3, she is recruitable as one of the Einherjar. When she meets Robin, she is quite convinced that she is in fact meeting her old friend, her own tactician, due to the similarities between the two (Amnesia, unusual strategies that save people's lives), and the player can choose to either confirm or deny her allegations. In this regard, she can either be literally be talking to Robin, or metaphorically remembering the players themselves, who controlled Mark by playing the original The Blazing Blade. Regardless of decisions made, Lyn decides to join Robin, and can thus be recruited.
She also appears as a SpotPass character, accompanied by her friends and allies.
Fire Emblem Warriors[]
Lyn appears as an unlockable character from the fourth History Mode map, Noble Lady of Caelin, which is unlocked after clearing Story Mode. The History Mode map native to her is a slightly abridged recreation of the same chapter from The Blazing Blade, with the roles of Mark, Eliwood, Hector, Florina, and Bauker are given to Robin, Marth, Chrom, Caeda and Validar due to their absence in Warriors. After saving the castle from Validar's control by clearing the titular-named boss battle, Lyn then decides to join Marth and Chrom's ranks, where she soon runs into Robin and starts noting the similarities he has to her tactician.
Fire Emblem 0 (Cipher)[]

Etymology[]
Lyndis' nickname, "Lyn", is a Welsh baby boy's that means "Lake" or "Pool". Lyn also means "Lightning" in Danish and Norwegian, possibly meaning her swift swordsmanship.
Her full name "Lyndis", is a combination of "Lyn" and the Old Norse suffix "Dis" which means "Lady" or "Woman" and was used to promote female deities of fertility, primary use as suffixes on male only names, like "Frey" and "Thor", making "Freydis" and "Thordis".
The romanization of her Japanese nickname "Lin" is Chinese for "Forest", "Fine Jade", and "Gem".
Trivia[]
- Lyn's age in The Blazing Blade differs between the Japanese and localized releases. In the Japanese version, she is fifteen at the start of the game and sixteen in Eliwood/Hector's Tale. In the localized version, Lyn is eighteen and nineteen years old.

- 1 Warrior (Dorcas)
- 1 Bow Knight (Rath)
