Mananan was the brave King of Isaac before the events of Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu, and the father of Mariccle and Ira, who were born 12 years apart. After the Rivough clan attacked the free city of Darna, in the Yied Desert, Mananan set off to resolve the situation. He led an army to defeat Rivough and took the head of Rivough's ruler, offering it to Grandbell to propose a truce. However, he was captured by Grandbell's soldiers and executed by Reptor so that the Isaacian-Grandbellian war could continue. Manfroy was responsible for Mananan's death, and they were scheming with Langobalt to attain more power for themselves. According to Cuan's conversation with Ira in Chapter 1, Cuan's father King Calf well respected Mananan and thought Mariccle was a fine young man.

The Fire Emblem Treasure's family tree reveals that Mananan may have had Mariccle and Ira with two different anonymous women. This is also suggested by the fact that his grandson Shanan lacks Nihil skill, which Ira and her children Lakche and Skasaher have.

His name derives from the Irish mythological character Manannan mac Lir, the god of the sea and the weather.
