“How can you be so cruel?! I want to see my brother... Take me back to Arial!”
—Neyfa, in a conversation with Poem

Neyfa (ネイファ Neifa) is a major non-playable character from TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga. She is the fifteen-year-old daughter of Prince Arless of Canaan and Serene, as well as the younger sister of Sennet. She is also the Shaman of Wind and therefore can use the Ring of Canaan to transform herself into the holy Wind Dragon, Rakis (ラキス Rakisu, fan translated as Rachis). She is being pursued by Gwenchaos and his followers because she is one of the four shamans required as sacrifices to resurrect the dark dragon, Gerxel.

Profile[]

Fourteen years prior to the game's events, her family's manse was attacked by Karla's forces. Although Serene was slain, Neyfa and Sennet escaped from danger with their nanny's help. The nanny entrusted them to the care of Katrina, who raised them the help of her father, King Temzin of Arial. On her fifteenth birthday, Neyfa transformed into Rakis and killed dozens of Istorian soldiers, which forced Katrina to reveal the truth about her and Sennet's identities.

In her introduction scene, Neyfa is taken as a hostage by a gang of thieves led by Poem. Eventually, she loses her nerve and transforms into Rakis. Before she can deal great damage to the nearby towns, Sennet calms her down, and she returns to her human form. Several chapters later, she appears alongside the Arial Mercenaries and the Leda Alliance Army when they come to the aid of Holmes's army.

Later in the game, Neyfa is abducted by Gwenchaos during his attack on the Temple of Wind. He forces her to transform into Rakis and attack Runan during his meeting with Sennet in Nolzeria. However, Sennet brings her back to her senses once again, and she gives the Ring of Canaan to him before Gwenchaos returns for her. Afterwards, she is taken to an underground temple and prepared for Gerxel's resurrection ritual. Despite Sennet's best efforts to rescue her, she is ultimately sacrificed to Gerxel alongside Katri and Enteh. After Gerxel is slain by a combined attack from Runan, Holmes, Sennet, and Tia, Neyfa is revived by Miradona alongside the other fallen shamans and Richard.

In the ending, Neyfa and Sennet meet their cousins, Mel and Maruju. Afterwards, the two of them return to Canaan.

Quotes[]

“Aah... Sennet...”
—Neyfa's defeat quote as an NPC in Map 21

Etymology[]

According to Shouzou Kaga, Neyfa was the name of a character for a short story he wrote many years before TearRing Saga.

The name of the guardian dragon Rachis comes from the Ancient Greek word ῥάχις (rháchis), which means "spine" or "vertebra." Like the other guardian dragons' names, its meaning is related to the nervous system.

Trivia[]

  • The TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga novel Eternal Wind seems to focus on Sennet and Neyfa's relationship.
