—Nichol threatening a Villager to pay a toll.
Nichol (ナハト Nahato, lit. Nacht) is a capturable boss character from Fire Emblem Fates. A knight of Nohr, Nichol leads a group of bandits to terrorise a village.
Nichol is voiced by Kenji Hamada in the Japanese version.
Profile
All Routes
Nichol appears in Paralogue 5, where he and his band of bandits are introduced in the midst of terrorising a village, taunting a child villager for failing to pay a toll. When the child responds by calling for help, Nichol sadistically threatens to allow one of his comrades to rip out his tongue. Fortunately for the village, the Avatar's army, aware of the dire proceedings, arrives in the nick of time to save its inhabitants from certain death. Nichol is eventually defeated in the ensuing battle, either slain or captured by the Avatar's forces.
Nichol also appears as a potential visitor in the DLC episode Museum Melee.
Personality
Although not much is known about Nichol due to his minor involvement with the plot, several aspects of his character are depicted nevertheless. His help description, for one, describes him as being an apathetic individual despite having an unusually strong will to survive. His pre-battle quote also portrays him as a prideful individual, as he, despite being aware of the odds stacked against him in battle, arrogantly announces his combat superiority before taunting his foe to approach him.

Overview
Like most Paralogue bosses, Nichol brings virtually nothing to the table once captured, unless he is captured on Lunatic, he will come equipped with skills learned from the Wyvern Rider. His growth rates are flatly inferior to those of Camilla, although they are, nevertheless, superior to those boasted by generic Malig Knights. Nichol's stat growths favor more towards a Wyvern Lord however, as his magic is usually not enough to let him take advantage of tomes and the fact that his magical stat cap is lower than his physical one.
Nichol does have some usability in Birthright, however. His moderately high Defense ensures that he can tank most physical weapons easily, and is useful in Chapter 24 to respond to flying reinforcements that arrive around the map.
His usability in Conquest can be quite debatable since his stat growths are near identical to Camilla's, and it depends on how early in game he is captured. In unit-wise, however, he is still treated as a Birthright boss, meaning he comes with no exclusive skills outside of his class. If Camilla has fallen in battle, Nichol can serve as a decent replacement for her. Since he is a Malig Knight, he can also be used along with her to increase the player army's mobility due to the terrain effects in many maps of the Conquest route, as well as the player being limited to obtaining units in the Wyvern Rider branch of that route.
As a Malig Knight, Nichol's base class set is the Wyvern Rider. His other normal reclassing option is the Wyvern Lord class. Like all other capturable units, he can be reclassed into special classes if so desired.
It is advised to capture Nichol in Museum Melee if possible, on Lunatic as he starts off with a higher weapon rank which leads to him using better weapons immediately without grinding or using Arms Scroll on him. It is also advised to capture him during earlier chapters, given as soon as the Prison can be built, which can be quite difficult but it will allow him to start off as a Level 2 Malig Knight.

Trivia
- Nichol shares his Japanese voice actor, Kenji Hamada, with Azama in Fates including Gregor and Yen'fay from Awakening.
- Nichol seems to have originally been a recruitable unit with a larger role, but was scrapped and became a capturable unit instead. Some evidence that may prove Nichol was indeed scrapped are as follows:
- He, along with Candace are the only capturable bosses with critical/skill activation cut-in portraits, though they lack quotes for such.
- His voice clip that is present when defeated in battle is said in a manner similar to how allied units are defeated. Not only this, but he has many unused voice clips that were not used in the final release, with one of them mentioning his fear of death.
- Additionally, his name is located among the names of characters that can exclusively marry the female Avatar. He also has a blushing graphic that is never used in the final game, which could've been used during his confession with the female Avatar.
- Nichol is one of the few capturable male bosses who has voice clips not shared with other capturable bosses. Others include Senno, Haitaka, Lloyd, and Llewelyn.
- Nichol and Candace are the only paralogue bosses to use the theme Squirm in the Dark when they are fought like most Nohrian bosses in the main storyline (not counting the playable allies in the Conquest route).
- This is considered to be unusual, as paralogue bosses normally have the theme "Wild Outlaw" played when they are engaged in battle. This could be due to the fact that they are the only two paralogue bosses to be listed where they're from, with that being Nohr, while most of them are listed as scoundrels from remote regions.
