When faced with enemies using these, remember that although they do little damage, such an attack can easily catch even an experienced player off guard and may cause unit death. The Onager (投石器 Tōseki ki, lit. Stone Hurling Contraption in the Japanese verion) is a Ballista weapon that appears exclusively in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. The Onager is, much like its other ballista counterparts, a long-range artillery weapon, but it is set apart from the rest by the fact that it not just inflicts damage upon a selected enemy target, but also to units positioned adjacent to said target. While the Onager's fired ammunition always succeeds in striking its target, the weapon is incapable of performing critical strikes. Also, unlike most other Bow and Ballista weapons, the Onager does not inflict effective damage against Pegasus Knights and Bird Laguz. When faced with enemies using these weapons, it is essential for the player to remember that although they inflict little damage, such an attack can easily catch even the most experienced player off guard and may cause unnecessary unit death.

In appearance, the Onager is similar to a boulder catapult, explaining why it is capable of wounding nearby enemies, as the fragments derived from the ammunition blasting apart as it makes contact with the target are expected to hurtle about within close proximity of the intended target.
