The Pachyderm is a Ballista that recurrently appears across the Fire Emblem Series. Etymology

"Pachyderm" is the abbreviated form of the term "Pachydermata", that which is essentially a portmanteau of the Greek words pachys (meaning "thick") and derma (meaning "skin"), distinguishing features that identify such mammals like elephants, rhinoceroses and hippopotamuses. Given this fact, the ballista in question can thus be deemed to be appropriately named, as the ammunition that it discharges is of a heavyweight nature, comparable to the bulky weights that the named animals present.
