“Pick up the pace! Agustria is straight ahead! Set your sights on Grannvale's army, and give it to 'em as severely as you please. Let the name of Thracia echo across the land!”
—Papilion

Papilion is an enemy character from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. He is one of the dragon knights of Thracia, and is deployed from the direction of the Blaggi Tower to ambush Sigurd's army after the death of Eldigan. He is supremely confident in the abilities of Thracia's forces, perhaps recklessly so. Papilion will ultimately fail in his duties, as he either falls to the sheer might of Sigurd's troops or fails to leave any significant impact on the battle. Upon receiving news of Papilion's death, Travant will leave Chagall to face off against Sigurd by himself. Travant will also flee if Silvail is captured before Papilion's death.

Overview

Papilion is a mediocre boss, possessing inferior leadership, might, accuracy, and attack speed compared to Voltz, a boss fought a chapter earlier, and he fares even worse when compared to the mighty Eldigan. Papilion's underlings actually have reasonable attack power, however, so he cannot be discounted completely. Like most other Dragon Knights, Papilion is highly vulnerable to both bows and magic. Ultimately, Papilion is an underwhelming boss who is only interesting because of his class. The statistical contrast between him and Eldigan could not possibly be more stark.

Depending on the player's position, when Papilion's forces make landfall, they might be within attacking range of Chagall's troops. Players wishing to play it safe might want to wait for Papilion's force to advance out of their range. Players can also wear his force down before it even hits landfall by baiting individual units into attacking Erinys. Doing so is far from necessary, however.

While it is possible for the player to bypass Papilion if he or she is playing extremely aggressively, it is generally worth waiting for Papilion to enter into attack range, just to snag his exceedingly useful Life Ring.
