+ | The Pegasus Knight is a flying combat physical class that debuted in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. |
||
+ | |||
⚫ | |||
+ | With few exceptions, the Pegasus Knight is historically a female-only class. The class uniform most often consists of a tunic-dress with a belt at the waist, tall boots, gloves of wrist or elbow-length, a breastplate, and shoulder guards. Helmeted Pegasus Knights often incorporate feathered wings into their design, though some have worn tied headbands or other headwear. |
||
+ | |||
⚫ | In Fire Emblem Awakening, Pegasus Knight armor has physical similarities to that of Greek warriors in reference to the origins of Pegasi from Greek mythology. Playable Pegasus Knight characters such as Sumia, Cordelia, and Cynthia have a unique design for their armor and tunic while generic Pegasus Knights don't have any outstanding features. |
||
+ | In Fire Emblem Fates, the equivalent Sky Knight class, unique to the nation of Hoshido, features a uniform that takes more influence from historical Japanese armor. |
||
− | The Pegasus Knight (ペガサスナイト Pegasasu naito) is a pegasus-mounted combat physical class that recurrently appears across the Fire Emblem Series, beginning from Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. In almost all the class' iterations through the years, it has been female-exclusive, featuring warriors straddling Pegasus steeds and outfitted with Lances as their primary weapons of choice. It is also of note that Pegasus Knights tend to hail from locations that possess wintry climates. |

+ | The Pegasus Knight class has appeared in some form in every entry in the Fire Emblem series. As stated above, it is historically a female-only class, and features warriors riding atop flying Pegasus steeds who most commonly wield lances. As flying units, they have a high movement range and are unimpeded by terrain, but are commonly weak to bows and ballistae. |

− | In Mystery of the Emblem, Pegasus Knights are reverted to promoting into Dracoknights yet again. They use only Lances when mounted, reverting to Sword use only when dismounted. While all playable Pegasus Knights are female, the generic enemy Pegasus Knights are male. |
||
− | + | In Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, Pegasus Knights promote into Dracoknights, as in the first game. With the introduction of the dismounting mechanic, they use lances only when mounted, and swords when dismounted. While all playable Pegasus Knights are female, the generic enemy Pegasus Knights are male. |
|
+ | In Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, the Pegasus Knight's promotion class is Falcon Knight once again, existing alongside a separate Dracoknight class. From this game forward, Falcon Knight is the most common promotion for Pegasus Knight units. As in Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, Pegasus Knights are capable of wielding both swords and lances. |

− | + | In Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, the branching promotion tree allows Pegasus Knights to promote into either Wyvern Knights or Falcon Knights. |
|
− | In [[Fire Emblem: |
+ | In Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Pegasus Knights return to having a singular class change option, and are restricted to Falcon Knight. Elincia has a unique variant of the Pegasus Knight class in Princess Crimea, capable of using both swords and staves. |
+ | In Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, there are no playable Pegasus Knights. Instead, the lowest playable tier is the Falcoknight, which has a new promotion of its own in the Seraph Knight. As in Path of Radiance, Elincia again has a unique variant of the Pegasus Knight class, the Queen class, capable of using swords and staves. |
||
− | The Pegasus Knight (<ruby>天馬騎士<rt>ペガサスナイト</rt></ruby> Pegasasu naito) class is further able to promote into the Seraph Knight class after promoting into the Falcoknight class in Radiant Dawn. Pegasus Knight itself is technically unplayable as the returning Pegasus Knight from Path of Radiance, Marcia, is recruited as a Falcoknight. Despite this Pegasus Knights still advances to Falcoknight in the game data. |
||
− | In [[Fire Emblem: |
+ | In Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, remakes of the Archanea Series, the Dracoknight class is reinstated as the main promoted form of the Pegasus Knight class. Usage of special Elysian Whips in these two titles grants Pegasus Knights access to the Falcon Knight class. |
− | In |
+ | In Fire Emblem Awakening, Pegasus Knights are again given a branching promotion option, with Dark Flier available alongside Falcon Knight. Dark Fliers are depicted as units riding black Pegasi and have the ability to wield tomes alongside lances. |
− | + | In Fire Emblem Fates, the class is referred to as Sky Knight, and it is the first game with playable female and male Pegasus riding units. Treated as a Hoshidan class, the Sky Knight can promote either into the Falcon Knight class or the Kinshi Knight class. The latter class sees Sky Knights swooping into battle atop the backs of mythical Kinshi with bows and lances. The Sky Knight's Nohrian counterpart is the Wyvern Rider class. There is also a standalone, personalized variant of the Pegasus Knight class available to Minerva, who was only obtainable via a promotional download code. |
|
+ | In the spin-off Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE, the Pegasus Knight Caeda from Shadow Dragon appears as the Mirage partner of Tsubasa Oribe. Caeda can promote into either a Falcon Knight or a Wyvern Knight. Pegasus Knights appear as enemy Mirages in Illusory Daitou TV as Blackwing Knight, and a stronger variant, the Bloodwing Knight, appears in Illusory Shibuya. A weaker variant of Blackwing Knight called Umber Pegasus Knight, though similar in appearance, appears as a midboss in Illusory 106 and two of them fight alongside Mirage Aversa. While a Bloodwing Knight fights alongside Cursed Draug in Illusory Daitou TV, a weaker Bloodwing Knight known as Chaos Pegasus Knight appears as a mid-boss in the same area. |

⚫ | In the spin-off Fire Emblem Warriors & Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Pegasus Knights have unique traits as a flying class that gives them the ability to cross over otherwise impassable ravines and over hazardous terrain without taking damage. The class's history as an almost exclusively female class in FEW is addressed when Frederick explains to Rowan that Pegasi typically dislike men and thus it is nearly impossible for men to become Pegasus Knights. As in Fates, Pegasus Knights under the Hoshidan flag are called Sky Knights. In Three Hopes, Pegasus Knights require female units to have mastered the Soldier class before, then unlock by spending an Intermediate Seal. |

+ | In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the Pegasus Knight class is an optional, female-only promotion of the Commoner or Noble class. To promote or reclass into a Pegasus Knight, the prospective unit must pass the Certification Exam at Level 10 with a Lance Skill Level of C or higher, a Flying Skill Level of D or higher, and an Intermediate Seal. |

− | Characters of the Pegasus Knight class are often depicted outfitted in a tunic, with some of them featured wearing a miniskirt that just covers their hips underneath the tunic. In cases where miniskirts are not worn, the tunic is then lengthened to cover the hip, with most possessing slits on either side of the tunic from the top of their waist to the lower half of their hips. Pegasus Knights also wear a white belt with beige edges around their waist, and which sometimes has a sheath attached to act as sword carriers. |

⚫ | In Saga: Utna Heroes Saga, Pegasus Knights are identical to their portrayal in Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, having access to both Swords and Lances and being able to promote into Dragon Knight. Pegasus Knight is also the promoted form of the Princess class, requiring the use of a ☆Pegasus Flute to be used for the promotion to take place. |
||
+ | In Vestaria Saga I, the Pegasus Knight is known as the Eagle Rider. Unlike in other Fire Emblem and Saga titles, Eagle Riders ride on Griffons instead. This is likely due to Pegasus Knights being copyrighted by Intelligent Systems. The class is unisex, but all playable Eagle Riders are female. Eagle Riders wield Swords, Maidenswords and Lances. Eagle Riders can promote into the Raptor Knight and they get to wield Throwing Spears. In certain instances, Eagle Riders are dismounted. |
||
− | While Pegasus Knights do not wear leggings, most are shown wearing knee high or thigh-high socks and boots. An exception to this is Misha, who is depicted wearing leggings. |
||
+ | In Vestaria Saga: The Holy Sword of Silvanister, playable Eagle Riders possess the Sacred Beast Gem, which allows them to dismount or mount upon use. One Eagle Rider, Orphelia, can use Staves when dismounted. |
||
− | Pegasus Knights are also known to wear arm-length or wrist-length gloves, and in some cases, fingerless gloves. Certain depictions feature them with a headband tied around their heads. |
||
⚫ | |||
− | For armour, Pegasus Knights are accustomed to wearing a breastplate, shoulder guards and a round helmet. |

⚫ | The Pegasus Knight may seem fragile, but they are one of the most useful classes to have on the field. Their ability to fly over normally impassable terrain for long distances, alongside their ability to use the Rescue command in later titles, allows them to be used as a type of transport for ground units. Pegasus Knights tend to have very low HP and Defense, a fact that makes them a little more fragile as compared to many other classes. They are also marred by their low Constitution (in games that utilize this stat), a fact that necessitates the need for them to wield lightweight weapons to prevent chronic Attack Speed losses. Pegasus Knights do possess quite some merits, however; their high Speed, for instance, is one of their defining traits, aiding them immensely in consistently dodging attacks. They are also fairly strong in terms of Resistance, positing them as effective dispatchers of magic-based enemies. |
||
⚫ | During any given skirmish, Pegasus Knights must be kept out of range of bow-wielding enemies. Already sufficiently fragile due to their low HP and Defense, Pegasus Knights are therefore even more vulnerable when facing such foes, ones who can inflict effective damage against them. Apart from this, Pegasus Knights must also be wary of wielders of Wind magic, as these foes are similarly granted the ability to inflict effective damage against them. This is less of an issue as compared to their vulnerability to bow-wielding foes, as their decent Resistance growths can help them tide through at least one or two of such attacks. |

Latest revision as of 01:18, 21 February 2024
The Pegasus Knight is a flying combat physical class that debuted in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light.
Uniform
With few exceptions, the Pegasus Knight is historically a female-only class.
In Fire Emblem Awakening, Pegasus Knight armor has physical similarities to that of Greek warriors in reference to the origins of Pegasi from Greek mythology. Playable Pegasus Knight characters such as Sumia, Cordelia, and Cynthia have a unique design for their armor and tunic while generic Pegasus Knights don't have any outstanding features.
In Fire Emblem Fates, the equivalent Sky Knight class, unique to the nation of Hoshido, features a uniform that takes more influence from historical Japanese armor.
History in the Series
The Pegasus Knight class has appeared in some form in every entry in the Fire Emblem series. As stated above, it is historically a female-only class, and features warriors riding atop flying Pegasus steeds who most commonly wield lances. As flying units, they have a high movement range and are unimpeded by terrain, but are commonly weak to bows and ballistae.
In their original inception in Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, Pegasus Knights can wield both swords and lances as their weapons of choice. They promote into Dracoknights in this installment.
In Fire Emblem Gaiden and its remake Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, the Pegasus Knight class solely wields lances and promotes into the Falcon Knight class instead, gaining the ability to inflict effective damage against monsters upon promotion.
In Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, Pegasus Knights promote into Dracoknights, as in the first game. With the introduction of the dismounting mechanic, they use lances only when mounted, and swords when dismounted. While all playable Pegasus Knights are female, the generic enemy Pegasus Knights are male.
In Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, the Pegasus Knight's promotion class is Falcon Knight once again, existing alongside a separate Dracoknight class. From this game forward, Falcon Knight is the most common promotion for Pegasus Knight units. As in Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, Pegasus Knights are capable of wielding both swords and lances.
Pegasus Knight is the promoted form of the Pegasus Rider class in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. Karin is the only playable member of the Pegasus Rider class.
In Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, the branching promotion tree allows Pegasus Knights to promote into either Wyvern Knights or Falcon Knights.
In Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Pegasus Knights return to having a singular class change option, and are restricted to Falcon Knight. Elincia has a unique variant of the Pegasus Knight class in Princess Crimea, capable of using both swords and staves.
In Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, there are no playable Pegasus Knights. Instead, the lowest playable tier is the Falcoknight, which has a new promotion of its own in the Seraph Knight. As in Path of Radiance, Elincia again has a unique variant of the Pegasus Knight class, the Queen class, capable of using swords and staves.
In Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, remakes of the Archanea Series, the Dracoknight class is reinstated as the main promoted form of the Pegasus Knight class. Usage of special Elysian Whips in these two titles grants Pegasus Knights access to the Falcon Knight class.
In Fire Emblem Awakening, Pegasus Knights are again given a branching promotion option, with Dark Flier available alongside Falcon Knight. Dark Fliers are depicted as units riding black Pegasi and have the ability to wield tomes alongside lances.
In Fire Emblem Fates, the class is referred to as Sky Knight, and it is the first game with playable female and male Pegasus riding units.
In the spin-off Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE, the Pegasus Knight Caeda from Shadow Dragon appears as the Mirage partner of Tsubasa Oribe.
In the spin-off Fire Emblem Warriors & Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Pegasus Knights have unique traits as a flying class that gives them the ability to cross over otherwise impassable ravines and over hazardous terrain without taking damage.
In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the Pegasus Knight class is an optional, female-only promotion of the Commoner or Noble class. To promote or reclass into a Pegasus Knight, the prospective unit must pass the Certification Exam at Level 10 with a Lance Skill Level of C or higher, a Flying Skill Level of D or higher, and an Intermediate Seal.
In Fire Emblem Engage the Pegasus Knight is split into three separate classes based on their weapon: Lance Flier, Sword Flier, and Axe Flier. They also have split promotions, promoting into either the Wyvern Knight or Griffon Knight class.
Other Games
In TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga, Pegasus Knights are identical to their portrayal in Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, having access to both Swords and Lances and being able to promote into Dragon Knight. Pegasus Knight is also the promoted form of the Princess class, requiring the use of a ☆Pegasus Flute to be used for the promotion to take place.
In Vestaria Saga I, the Pegasus Knight is known as the Eagle Rider.
In Vestaria Saga: The Holy Sword of Silvanister, playable Eagle Riders possess the Sacred Beast Gem, which allows them to dismount or mount upon use. One Eagle Rider, Orphelia, can use Staves when dismounted.
Overview
Combat
The Pegasus Knight may seem fragile, but they are one of the most useful classes to have on the field.
During any given skirmish, Pegasus Knights must be kept out of range of bow-wielding enemies.

Trivia
- In Mystery of the Emblem, enemy Pegasus Knights appear to be male, making them the first known male Pegasus Knights in the series. In Fire Emblem Fates, the class has become unisex with Subaki officially being the first male Pegasus unit under the player's control.
- In The Blazing Blade, enemy Pegasus Knights appear female and are otherwise indistinguishable from allied Pegasus Knights, except that they use the male mounted formula for AID, giving them the highest AID of any unit in the game, 20.
- Pegasus Knights are generally female due to the myth of the unicorn, which states that only pure-hearted maidens could approach Pegasi. Pegasi within the series alternate between being traditional pegasi or an alicorn/winged unicorn.
- Radiant Dawn is the only game in which Pegasus Knights are enemy-only and thus unplayable, even though their promoted forms, Falcoknight and Seraph Knight, are playable. The capability for Pegasus Knights to promote to Falcoknight suggests they were going to be playable at one point.
- This means that among the classes that have appeared in every fire emblem game, Pegasus Knight is the only one to have been non-playable.
