Ragnarök is an apocalyptic event in Fire Emblem Heroes.

Profile[]

Having watched over the adventures of the Order of Heroes, Rune, the true creator god Alfaðör, decides to instigate Ragnarök, which would lead to the destruction of The Nine Realms. However, impressed by the Order of Heroes, Rune has faith that the Order can overcome this apocalypse. He warns them that Ragnarök will involve three significant events: the winter of annihilation, the wolf of annihilation, and the sword of annihilation.

As commanded by Rune, Thórr sends the Order back to Askr. Upon returning, Alfonse feels a familiar presence call out to him. As part of Ragnarök, all of the gods of the realms have been brought back to life and are given the orders to side with humanity or oppose them. Askr decides to side with humanity and has chosen Alfonse as his champion, granting him immense power. Like Rune, Askr has faith that Alfonse and the order will succeed.

The Winter of Annihilation[]

Thórr informs them that the first calamity has begun on the bottom layer of the realms, hitting Nifl the hardest. Fjorm accompanies them to her home to find it engulfed by a massive blizzard that is freezing over the realm harder than ever. The winter of annihilation Fimbulvetr is the source of it. Though they are able to temporarily halt her, Fimbulvetr immediately unleashes greater power, nearly freezing everyone to death if not for the intervention of Thórr. Though stunned by her power, Alfonse still has faith that they can stop her as Rune would not be so enthusiastic to watch events unfold if he did not believe the Order could triumph. As blizzard continues to rage, Fjorm is devastated to see Nifl's capital completely frozen over, though fortunately Hríd and Ylgr are fine and they report that they had evacuated the citizens to the south where the blizzard had not hit as hard. Ylgr informs Fjorm that she is having vivid dreams much like Gunnthrá. In her dreams, she hears Lady Nifl calling out for Fjorm.

Etymology[]

Ragnarök was the mythological Norse "apocalypse" that brought about the deaths of all the Gods and humans (Ragnarök literally means "the end/twilight of the gods"). The event is marked by three particular events:
The first is the great three year, summer-less winter Fimbulvetr that is marked by snow that comes in all directions and starts innumerable wars across the world.
The second is the release of the wolf Fenrir from its bindings. It is foretold that it would set the world aflame, destroy all societies in the realms, and would be the entity that kills Odin.
The third is the final war involving all of the Einherjars and Æsir. At the end of it all, nearly all of the gods and entities of Ragnarök dies, leaving behind a new world. Among the survivors of this new world are the first male Lífthrasir (Thrasir) and first female Líf, who would eventually repopulate the earth. Several gods also survive including Víðarr, Váli, Móði, Magni, Baldr, and Hoðr.
