The Recruit (新人兵士 Shinjin Heishi, lit. Newcomer Soldier in the Japanese version) is one of three Trainee-type classes that appear exclusively in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. The Recruit wields Lances as its sole weapon of choice and is exclusive to Amelia.

Overview

As a Trainee class, the Recruit has relatively low stats upon being recruited. However, once the class reaches Level 10, it will promote into either the Cavalier or Knight classes automatically. From this point, the Recruit class can promote yet again into the respective second-tier classes using a Knight Crest.

If both routes of the game have been completed at least once, the Recruit will be able to promote into first-tier and second-tier versions of the class, ones that are referred to as Recruit (2) and Recruit (3) respectively.

The "Trainee" Recruit gains 33 EXP per attack and 100 for every kill in combat while the amount gained by Recruit (2) and Recruit (3) is equivalent to standard first-tier and second-tier classes respectively. With the sheer amount of levels and promotions that the Recruit class can gain, it has the potential to transform into a powerful class if properly trained.

Combat

As a Recruit, Amelia is most commonly promoted into the Knight class line, owing to the fact that there is already an abundance of mounted units. However, her decent Speed growth is better expended when she is promoted into a Cavalier and later a Paladin. Promoting her into a Recruit (3) is, of course, most recommended, as she gains an additional critical bonus and will fully realize her potential.

Trivia

• Across all the GBA Fire Emblem games, the Recruit (3) is the only Lance-only class to have a natural critical bonus.
• The Recruit (3) is essentially a Lance-wielding Swordmaster, given the fact that they have nearly the same stat caps in addition to an innate critical bonus.
